GeeDub14
Had to call out rac due to my cambelt going on my 1.4s lupo, anyone got a rough idea of costs to repair? After being towed home, the recovery guy said he thinks my engine is possibly unsafe .. Soo I'm guessing its going to be good news! mattarosa
To do yourself, roughly £80-£100 if it's just the belt. If valves have met pistons it's going to be much more. If you go genuine dealer for a belt change it's £
Sausage
Generally the "unsafe" comment regarding your engine was that if the belt broke the valves will hit the pistons. Some engines are "safe" in that if the belt breaks the valves do not hit the pistons, meaning it's no big disaster and cheap and easy to fix. You could slap a new belt on and do a compression test to check for bent valves. You'd need to rotate the engine at least twice by hand as part of the belt installation to make sure the timing is right so badly bent valves would likely show up then as it would be difficult to turn it over. It's going to be expensive unless you can do it yourself or get mates rates from someone you know. You are looking at hundreds of pounds depending on the extent of the damage. Sorry.
