LexG
Hi sooooo... I maybe replacing the back beam axle ... Is a tdi back axle the same as a gti axle if I swap the hubs over????? cheers Edited March 2, 2016 by LexG
Sausage
TDI has drums on the back. The 16v sport has discs but is narrower track than GTI. If this is for a GTI then I'd just get a GTI beam. Is yours bent or something for you to need to replace it?
LexG
No, I was wondering about the track width... cheers
Sausage
TDI track is same as standard lupos afaik, GTI is wider and has the flared arches to match.
jon_273
The GTI rear axle is no wider Only the front is wider, and that's because the ball joints are different. The different with the GTI rear axle is that it has a strengthening bar inside it.
Sausage
Good to know, i was going by what i was told by someone who should have known his stuff, but you are correct. The GTI has the roll bar and the sport doesn't is that the difference? Saves me looking for a sport beam, if i do a rear disk conversion..... And if you buy it complete with the original brake setup then the calipers and carriers will be (or will have been at some point) red. And it may or may not have a funny rubber weight thing bolted to the centre of it.
