Good evening all :D

As the title says- what is the correct VW colour code for the red used on GTi brake callipers from the factory?

Getting a set of brake callipers reconditioned shortly, and would like to have them finished in the correct VW factory red (or it's nearest possible equivalent). B)

(I did try searching the forum, but could not find anything :( )

Any help/further information gratefully appreciated and received.

Martin. :)

Martin,

Hi, I don't know the exact code....I recently did a my BMW Z3 calipers with some aircraft grade paint from the USA. It cost about £50 i think plus about £20 on import. They do a custom VW red for calipers called tornado red. The paint is a 2 two pack, kind of plastic stuff.....it goes on really nice...loads in a pot, would do 2-3 Lupo's I suspect....

As not much caliper is on show, I suspect this would perhaps be ok? Owners of G2 have reported >7 years or more with it on.....as its aircraft grade, its resistant to the elements...they look fab on my Z in silver and show no sign of peeling. Other than that, choose some cotton from a shop and reverse engineer the pantene code.....it might be a custom job.....Ian

I bought new calipers and carriers last year. Carriers were a different colour to the carriers; ut nowhere near the original shade either.. I got the carriers recoated to the same shade as the callipers.

Not really sure there is an actual paint code, but I'm happy.

Thank you for your replies peeps.

Think I will go for VW Tornado Red LY3D if I can, be nice to have it a VW colour if not cost-prohibitive.

Martin.

Martin, I could not find a UK distributor when I got mine...they mention in the order NOT sending the brake cleaner, but mine came with it. On deliver, Royal Mail sent a letter in the post saying it was at customs. I paid an import fee of about £18. If the package Is low, it will be free I think.....as its value, not the goods they are taxing....

I shot blasted my calipers and replaced all the seals etc. I did the inside and outside of the caliper, but only one layer on the inside where the faces move against one another. The sliders take most of the movement, so I guess it depends on the tolerances between the calipers. Obviously you don't have to strip the whole thing, you could just use a drill and wire brush on what you see I guess. Anyway, read the reviews, I can try and add a shot of my z3 calipers...nice paint, it doesn't go off quickly, so just build it up in thin layers.
