1272_el_ex
Pretty new to this so please bear with me. I have ended up buying my brother in laws old Lupo 1.4 16v BBY engine code. Car has done only 52k, presumably short journeys. The car started to develop a slight misfire on tickover and was taken to two 'reputable' VW gurus, neither of whom could diagnose the problem. With nothing to lose I have started to strip the engine and have found that the car is overfuelling, exhaust valves were really black as was the throttle body. There is a receipt for a throttle body reset a while back but when you see the 'before' pictures I question how that was done.I have now cleaned all the valves up, cleaned the head and relapped the vales back in.I have also cleaned the throttle body up but you can now see daylight. Now my question is, when off of the car should this flap be shut and airtight? Logic makes me want to say yes, Logic wants me to think that this is part or all of the problem!Over to you guys now, you are the experts. CLAYTONJONES
I'm pretty sure mine had that same gap when i had mine off before, at a guess its to let a little bit of air in whilst the car is stationary?
carrera-gt
Logic is wrong, it can't be completely closed or no air would be able to get in.
