  1. A heat gun, presumably to stretch the film right? I've read a couple of fitting guides before and they recommend a light water spray on the glass first to help remove bubbles, wouldn't these two techniques conflict a bit?
  2. Just rang up the local specialist for a quote on window tinting. £40 for the QTRs and £80 for the rear so £160 plus VAT (£188). Is this a fair quote? How easy is a DIY job? I've seen some shockers in the past but never sure if that's due to the quality of the kit or the quality of the install.
  3. Yeah I do a lot of milles, the 3 year old Passat the lease company took back was up to 98k. Have done my sums and so far am averaging 51+mpg out of the Loop which ain't bad. Stuck in one of those Redex Diesel treatments today to see if it might help any.
  4. Well at the risk of being called a chav, I like the aftermarket metal or metal look tax disc holders as a cheap mod, look better the crappy "Car Shop Wolverton" white thing I got with mine. Some of the more OTT `chav-tastic` one's are just plain ugly mind. Also take off any dealer stickers as they piss me off and unless they're paying me I'm not advertising someone's company!
  5. JB that tax disc holder one sounds good but sadly not an option. Other bloke in office has his kit arrive yesterday and it's a standard stick on glass one, or drill through the bodywork (over my dead body). Aerial is also bloody huge compared to last few handsfree kits I've had so might have to think carefully about where to put it. Seen some on the front windscreen in the centre behind the mirror which don't look too bad. Having seen your pics Tigz I'm now even more tempted to go for limo style as yours look great.
  6. Yes, Tigz like it a lot. Just done 310 miles today and cruised nicely at 80 on motorway (got couple of points so don't go any faster), and wasn't too bad on the B roads although I kept finding myself cruising along at 60 enjoying it rather than chucking it about like I usually do. Got home to find the mudflaps I ordered off ebay had arrived so they're on now, my first mod! Think it'll shave a few secs of `0-60`! ;-) or at least should mean I don't have to wash it so often. Will have to consider the Eibach springs, ta. I see your point about the speakers but seems such a waste of space in car that doesn't have that much to go around, but then it's not surprising considering they wasted space on badger tongue storage.... Attached for you arty types is a pic of an awesome machine capable of generating unimaginable power. And Gainsborough Power Station. Boom boom! border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" />
  7. After 5 years of company cars I picked up my very own 51 plate TDI today. First impression is it ain't as big as the Passat I just gave back! Coupla quick questions: 1) The ride seems firm over bumps (fine) but quite choppy when you chuck it about. Is this normal for a 'sport'? It's done 48k so are the shocks on the way out or is this the way they are? If so what's the best way to firm it up with minimal drop (I used to ground the Passat out on building sites regularly and care more now it's my sump!) 2) Door - Bottom of door panel is speaker, ickle door pocket, then huge flat waste of space. What's behind this? Can you fit another speaker in this space? 3) Storage space above air controls - what the frig is this and why the weird slots in the side, pointless styling or some really useful storage compartment I don't understand? 4) Remap - everyone's on about the performance increase on these, but what's the effect on mpg? Ta for any advice.
  8. Dunno what tints yet, the `die-hard` little gangsta in me wants limo style black tints but the grown up in me (I'll be 26 tomorrow) is thinking more of a light smoke or maybe even a green shade but might just make me look ill!
  9. border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> I'm new to the group as only just getting my TDI (arriving Wednesday). Was thrown out of company car scheme as they're forcing us all to buy our own (boo hiss). I was after a TDI Passat as I do about `35-40k` a year but fell in love with the above instead. After having a look around this forum and the almost unbelievable mpg, reasonable performance and cheap insurance (still paying 700+ but cheaper than most other stuff I looked at) I decided to take the plunge and buy it. Opinion in the office is divided between those that hate the colour and those that really despise it! It's a standard TDI with leccy windows, mirrors, CD and a aftermarket remote c/locking and alarm kit (which appeals as I've heard the Lupo locks are easy to force). Also seems to have a full size spare when I thought they came with space savers? Anyone know what colour it is as the latest Lupo brochure they've dropped it from the range? And as you can see from my other post I am currently sans manual. Where is it meant to be stored in the car when I get it as there is no glovebox? Modification wise I do too many miles and drive on crappy building sites so lowering is out. Got a set of Generation 3 Lexus style rear lights on order and will be getting the rear side and back windows tinted for security and comfort (first car in 5 years I've got without A/C), after that it'll be sit back and see what 40k a year does to a poor little Lupo. Anyone had any experience of high mileage in a TDI? Any help, advice, or encouragement that I haven't really just bought a green rollerskate would be appreciated!
  10. I'm looking to get the rear windows and back window tinted on my Lupo (small boot = stuff on back seat) and my company are paying for a hands free Nokia kit with the aerial on the side window (has that little pad that sticks on the inside of the glass with the aerial glued on the outside). My question is, in which order should I get it done? Can the aerial pad be fitted after the tints or would it pull the film off? Can they cut a small area of the film off to fit the pad? Or should I get the kit fitted and try to get the tints put on around the aerial pad? Any ideas or experience? Thanks in advance!
  11. I'm picking up my 2001 Lupo TDI this week, only the books and manuals have gone missing. I'm getting a replacement service history (I've checked the history with VW and all good and HPI) but may have to wait a while for the owners handbook etc. Has anyone got a scanned copy or similar they could send me to be getting on with?
  12. Dunno if this helps but I had the same light come up on my 2003 Polo. I was fitting a new stereo and cleverly managed to short a fuse, losing the stereo power. As I'd lost the handbook I took the brilliant approach of just pulling out all the fuses that I thought it might be (based on that little diagram you get in the fuse compartment) until I found the one that had gone. I finally found it, replaced it and stereo worked again but I got the warning light you got, presumably because I'd lost power to some component or other whilst yanking them all out. VW assist turned the warning light off again in about 3 secs with their plug in box, guy said it was just a weird error in the log and they often come on. So maybe you're lights on for a similar reason, just a momentary loss of power due to a fuse blowing or similar?
