    Lupo FSI

The Lupo FSI (fuel stratified injection) was a 5L petrol version of the 3L and was the first VW with a direct injection petrol engine. Because it was only made in limited quantities, it was only made as LHD and only sold in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It had a different grill to the 3L but otherwise appeared very similar and had the same gearbox. RAB
  2. Only 1000km per tank! 3L of course! Sussex to the South of France without refilling! RAB

    Lupo 3L

Best place to look for one is www.mobile.de or www.autoscout.de RAB
  4. Has anyone got an unwanted Lupo instrument cluster with a speedo range of 0-120MPH for sale? A non-working one would be OK as I only need the speedo face. Original (white) or later (grey) would be OK. RAB
  5. Brake components take about a week, tyres are readily available (same size as Nissan Micro, I think), filters are common with other Lupo's. I always thought that I would have great difficulty selling on my 3L's but after looking at this site, I could probably make a reasonable living importing 3L's from Germany! RAB
  6. One is my wife's! She needed a car without a clutch pedal and it was (and still is, eight years later) by far the most fuel efficient 'automatic'. I have only just registered the A2 and want to see how reliable it is before thinking of selling my 3L. Apart from the GTi, 80% of parts used in the 3L are different from other Lupo's - even the windows have thinner glass! If you need spare parts they will most likely have to come from Germany, so it is useful to have a 'spare car'! The GTi's/3L's were so different that when most Lupo production moved from Wolfsburg to Brussels, the GTi's and 3L's continued to be made at Wolfsburg; production of the latter also continued for six months after production ceased at Brussels. 7. Try this one: http://www.mobile.de/home/index.html#0 Choose the 'Detailed Search' option, Enter 1.2tdi as the variant etc This one looks very reasonable: http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/showDeta...mp;pageNumber=1 I would stick to cars with dealers, as they should offer some sort of guarantee for the engine and gearbox. You also have limited options for payment - either cash or electronic transfer. For the latter, if you want to bring the car back with you, you will have to transfer the funds before you see the car! You will also have to arrange temporary plates and insurance for the journey home. The dealer should be able to do this. German law requires this, it is not an option. RAB
  8. Could it be that there is not enough screenwash in your washbottles, leading to freezing of the contents and subsequent breakage of the pipework? RAB
  9. I paid about €10,600 for mine new in Holland, tax-free and then about £1100 VAT, in 2001. Not that expensive really. Had to change the headlights though, connect up the RHS rear foglight and modify the speedo to read MPH. By far the best place to find one now is here: http://www.mobile.de/home/securityAdvice.html?lang=en I found my second 3L and A2 here. RAB
  10. What I would really like though is a 1L (282mpg): <div align="center"> </div> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_1-litre_car http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/-vw-...11-ar32507.html http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-vw-1-liter-car.htm Alas, only in prototype form so far although VW's chairman (driving) thinks that something similar may appear in 2010/2011. RAB
  11. At least two others. Go to www.a2oc.net Here is my other 3L, RAB
  12. Better pics above. More below: Even travelling just to work (about 10km each way), I get nearly 90mpg in winter. RAB
  13. Hopefully you're now convinced! See above! RAB
  14. This is probably the earliest 3L registered in the UK: My wife's! RAB
  15. 2001 3L (L3 LUP) in the background. Wheels are VW(!) as being from Germany, the original wheels currently have winter tyres. RAB
  16. I will upload some pics tonight. Is there another way of putting pics here? RAB
  17. The spec is here: http://www.audiworld.com/news/01/A2TDI/content.shtml http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.j....xml&page=1 Apart from the badge on the hatch, it looks like any other A2. LHD only of course with tiptronic gearchange. Like later 3L's with the option of A/C, mine is actually a 3.2L. Performance is about the same as a Lupo 3L, as they weigh about the same but the A2 is much more comfortable on long journeys. When I registered the car at the local DVLA office, they didn't believe that Audi made such a fuel efficient car - zero VED! Will post some pics but the only way I seem to be able to do it is by uploading to my website! RAB
  18. There's no DSG gearbox on the Lupo 3L, just a lightened manual gearbox which is automated. No titanium suspension either. RAB
  19. I have imported two, one new from Holland (from Intercar) and one S/H from Germany. We also have am Audi A2 1,2Tdi which is also 3L. There are at least two other A2 1.2Tdi's in the UK and at least one other Lupo 3L. Try www.mobile.de for cars from Germany. Great cars, not many problems and spare parts are easily available although they usually have to come from Germany. The one I bought new cost about €10.600 tax free + £1100 VAT. Now on 133,000km. RAB
