  1. I'm pretty sure the diff units are the same on the 02T & 02U (5 & 6 speed). I will check this out at the weekend to make absolutely certain. Quaife came back this afternoon and confirmed their minimum run is 10 units. Price still TBC.
  2. Tigz It's altogether different. The Polo GTI box is an 085, which they now do a diff for, but it's not listed in their brochure yet because the bloke who arranged the group buy on them has sole distribution rights for a limited time.
  3. While i've got my box apart, i've sent my diff down to Quaife for them to evaluate. They have come back with a positive response in that they can and are keen to produce a unit for the GTI box. However, they need to do a minimum run (exact number still TBC). Price is also TBC as it depends on how many units are ordered, but I would imagine it will be similar to the price of existing products. Basically i'm just trying to gauge GENUINE interest. Please let me know. Ta.

Was me. Always good to have a friendly thumbs up.
  5. Has the H&R anti-roll bar made any difference?
  6. Not wishing to rain on anyone's parade or anything, but i've seen an awful lot of totalled so called race engines that were built on the assumption that the OE manufacturer had built a substantial safety margain into standard components. Applying some of the thoeries in this post to a CTR motor would have it revving to 10k no worries. So how come i've seen plenty go bang in race conditions using standard revs. And that will be why most teams running a CTR have a space motor sat in the van just in case. You will no doubt get away with limited use ie. road work at say 8k for a GTI motor on most occasions. I'm only quoting from a conversation I had with an expert in the valvetrain field who is familiar with the product. I've also had a few good chats with the bloke who ran the BRC Polo S1600 cars. They revved to 9250 (standard crank by the way) but only after alot of re-engineering of the valvetrain. Throwing money at an engine built on assumption and so called logical thinking rather than knowledge and facts is foolish imo.
  7. You absolutely sure about this ie. can you back it up? I had a lengthy conversation with the Schrick people at Autosport last year and they said the reason they don't do any cams bigger than they do is because the standard roller rockers are made from rubbish and cap engine revs at 7800 max.
  8. VAG rather than just a DUB fan. Difficult to see what i'd replace the Lupo with though tbh.
  9. Best set up for the Ring (on road tyres) is just a fast road set up. Then at least you can still go out if its wet!
  10. Just wish I was over there with you! Keep it on the black stuff (and the kerbs!) Let us know how it went.
  11. Ok jimmy, The only physical difference between GTI front struts and normal Lupos' is that the bolt holes are positioned differently as part of the move to a wider front track. The normal type suspension WILL fit, but you may find that even fully adjusted, you have around 2 degrees of negative camber. For your application ie. track, this is not a problem. The only other difference may be that the GTI kit would have slightly stiffer front springs. But only slightly. To be honest, I went down on front spring rates with the KW coilovers to get a more neutral handling balance as it had too much understeer with the original KW springs. In short, the normal kit will fit. It might not be as good as the proper GTI kit (then again, it might be better), but it will certainly be MUCH better than the standard set up. Get it on, quickly!
  12. Just had a better look at this and if I were you i'd concentrate on the chassis and forget about power until your next trip. I'd seriously try and get hold of the parts you need for a 280mm conversion. There are a number of threads about it on the site. I'd be careful with the pad combo you have gone for. The Lupo has very little weight in the back and blues warm up slightly quicker than yellows which might give you a bit of a nervous balance. ATE blue fluid will be fine. I'd drop it 30mm and see how you get on. How it looks is secondary at the end of the day. I'd stick about 1.5 - 2.0 degrees of negative camber on the front as the Lupo suspension design has very little castor and they do have some body roll. A strut brace would be nice but is not essential. The only other slight worry I have is your tyre size. I run 195/45x15 and with the six speed box, this gives ideal gearing for the Ring'. I think you will be slightly overgeared with 205/50's. You might struggle to keep it on cam on the climbs. Beach is right about the hoses. Just use a piece of string to get a measure. The fittings are all standard VW with a banjo type at the caliper. It doesn't matter about the rear hose which goes into the rear caliper as this is braided anyway with rubber over the top. Good Luck!
  13. I've picked this up a little late and haven't had time to read it all, but looking at the spec of your car and providing you know the Ring' pretty well, you will break 9 mins no problem. I was back there in August and did a 9.10 on the one lap I timed. That was with some traffic and more to come from me and the car. My car has KW V2's, poly bushes, 280mm front discs with Pagid Blues and braided hoses. Tyres are Eagle F1's. You'll be quite surprised how much speed the Lupo will carry through the corners even on road tyres. Your Boxter and RS4 driving friends will be quite impressed. But your semi slicks will get you under 9 mins for sure. Have a safe one! One more thing Jimmy. Don't run the car too low. The right hand side driveshaft will catch the chassis leg. I've made this mistake before and had to go to Ring Racing to raise the car up.
  14. Thing is no matter how good you are, there's always a chance you'll bend it. If Rob bends it big time, its got a cage and harnesses which is good news. If he bends it just a bit, it'll be a load cheaper to repair than a VX. Good news again.
  15. Really good find Rob, looks nice and straight. Will probably be as quick as the VX in the wet as they are really user friendly.
  16. That's Big Phil's place. Gets some really nice cars through his books. Going to the ring' with him this weekend. Don't think the Loop will give the RS4 that much of a hard time some how! Nice Porker by the way.
  17. Its so expensive as they loose lots of cash every time they have to close it as no one is paying to go on track. Its also there to try and stop people driving beyond their or the cars ability. Don't let it hom you out, but always keep it in the back of your mind.
  18. I'm back there that weekend as well. Ring specific insurance costs a fortune. There is a good thread on the Club GTI forum in the motorsport section. Best advice is to take notice of what the experienced people tell you.
  19. Bill. Repeat after me: Leave the Lupo alone. Big spring rates ruin the ride. My KW's came with 50N/mm fronts and it was awful on owt but smooth surfaces. Dropped to 40's and it's much better, but rolls a bit more obviously. A gti beam would help you as you know. No one does bigger bars. The front GTI bar is reasonably thick for factory, but where its mounted on the a-arm means its only acting at about 0.5:1 with the strut. I've got a solution in my head but haven't got round to doing it yet! Mr. Carvell ran a 25mm front bar which mounted nearer the front hubs if I remember correctly. Might be woth asking where that came from if you can contact him. I'm not a big Toyo TI fan either. Nick.
  20. Anyone out there got the part numbers for the bits you need to change to a small drivers mirror on a GTI.
  21. Entirely sick of England flags everywhere. Gonna see if I can get a German flag to keep in the door pocket, so everytime I see some tw*t with an England flag, I can stick it up at the window. That would go down well I reckon!
  22. Mardigras Motorsport at Silverstone at UK importers.
  23. That was me. I crew on the Beechdean Ferrari in GT's. Kept meaning to have a mooch down to the VW camp to catch you, but never got chance.
