  1. Cheers for the replies. I've not ruled the car out yet. It's got just over a year left on the warranty so it wouldn't be a disaster if it was void for the engine bits. The car is priced quite cheaply (reflects this) but it's still a concern. I do know a few people in the car trade so even if things got a little bit wrong, parts wouldn't be too bad... Jen: that's interesting to hear. I'd be looking to have that in writing from VW before touching this car though! Cheers Ally
  2. Yeah, that's the thing worrying me: although there's neglible effect of missing the service based on mileage, VW would have a strong case to refuse any potential warranty claim if it could be accredited to the missed service. Ah feck, really unsure now. Been to see a few Lupo GTI's now and not found the right one for me yet... Not sure if this is the one after all. Ready to give up and buy something else style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Cheers Ally
  3. Cheers. I had a crap time with a previous car and I said the same about never, ever buying another Renault. But it's so hard not to as I still really like Clios and I'm finding it hard not being attracted to a Clio 182 style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Sounds a very similar story to the one I'm looking at (although I'm unsure who the previous owner was). It's a gamble - and I'm still debating it. I'm in a lucky position in that my father-in-law knows a few people in the car trade and is going to do a bit more research on this car for me, so I'll find out soon enough it's full background (I hope). I know that missing a service by 1,000 or so miles ins't a major disaster for the car, but I just know that if something were to go wrong with it that could be attributed to a missed service then sure as hell the warranty would be invalidated... Argh, the car seems spot on in every other way too... I'll have a think about it. Ally
  4. Hi Looking at a Lupo at the weekend, seems a good car. Apart from one thing: it should've had it's 10k/12 month service in September 2006 but didn't. The service book is unstamped. The mileage is now at around 11k. Obviously it's completely missed the service interval - but not by much (if you're looking at the mileage. Persionally I'd not be too concerned about this in terms of mechanical aspects as I'd ensure I get it serviced immediately upon buying it (if I decide to go ahead). 1,000 mies is still within the mileage boundaries of getting a service carried out, although it's totally missed the service "period" in terms of age. But what about the warranty? I just spoke to VW Customer Care any they've said if something went wrong and could be traced back to the missed service, then the warranty would be worthless. Obviously that would only really apply to something engine-related as I'm guessing the first service is little more than an oil/filter change. Should I be worried? Should I walk away from this one? There's not much else about the car giving me any concern so far... Cheers Ally
  5. Used to ride this. Sold it recently, now ride this and this and very, very occasionally this style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> I'm starting to display too many roadie tendencies recently (not yet shaving my legs fortunately...) - not healthy! You? Stirling - best natural singletrack trails in the UK IMO. I'm too much of a feartie to do DH though...
  6. Ah that's not too bad! But SS'ing on MTBs is just crazy - a few mates of mine are into it (and doing the SS World Champs later this year) but I like my gears. Still struggle to get up a hill on the way home from work on my road bike though...
  7. There must be some weight in that roofbox - it's pushing the whole car down... style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Seriously though, good to know roofbars aren't an issue on Lupo's - I'd definately be fitting some to carry my bikes if/when I get a Lupo. LGG - you got good knees? You won't have after you've ridden singlespeed up hill for a while...
  8. LOL good point. As long as it's a neat holder and not some mahoosive garage effort then IMO it looks fine in the bottom left.
  9. Seriously? There's as few as that around? What sort of figure were actually brought into the UK officially?
  10. Which one to sell? Stick them both up and see what happens. You're asking a very good price on your GTI - think I might've mentioned trade values to you in a PM? But it's a damn good price and more than reflects the lack of air-con IMO. Basic question to ask yourself is: can you afford to run the GTI as your only car? If not then you'll need to persevere with the sale and keep the Arosa. Just my thoughts... Ally
  11. McBunny - another name I recognise from Cliosport style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I'm also after a Lupo (GTI variety) but can't seem to sell them damn CTR...
  12. Ah, I used to see you/your car quite often on my drive into work in the mornings (I used to own a dark blue Clio 172 on coilies) - usually around the roundabouts at the end of Callendar Road (Ford garage). Always thought it was very smart but it looks even better now with the subtle mods - top job. I've since moved house and now travel down into Falkirk via Shieldhill so not seen your car for ages. Hoping to move to a Lupo GTI if I manage to sell my CTR... Even though I'm not in a Lupo I'll wave next time I see you around style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Ally
  13. LOL typical Weegie style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  14. Out of the ST170 and CTR, the CTR is by far the most fun car - a lot quicker and very competent. Integra Type R (would be a DC2 for £7.5k) damn good car but watch the running costs and insurance. I was quoted almost double for a Teg that what I'm paying on my CTR, just because the Teg's an import. Don't worry about getting a pre-facelift version, not any major changes except for the styling obviously (and the lightened flywheel). £7.5k should get you a good 52/03 (or if you can stretch to £12k you can have my 05 plate CTR style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> ) Fire away if you've got any Q's about CTR ownership. Ally
  15. Cheers for all the welcomes style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Man enough to drive a 'girlie car'? Hey, I used to drive a Clio (and a Punto before that...) so I'm fairly OK with my masculinity style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />. I'm actually looking to downsize from the Civic - I just don't need to lug around the extra space and weight (weight=evil) and rarely, if ever, have more than one passenger. Good to know about roofbars too - it's something I'd definately need as I'm a regular MTBer but travel up to Stirling weekly with bike(s) in/on the car. If I'm being totally honest, I've just don't get the same thrills from my Civic as I did my Clio - don't get me wrong, the Civic is a superior car in most other ways, but it's just doesn't have the X factor for me! Unfortunately my Clio was a very love/hate ownership experience - typical French shitbox regarding reliability (or lack thereof...). I'll need to get a test drive in a Lupo GTI but from all mag reviews I've seen of it (mainly EVO) I get the impression I'll love it. I know they're great cars but I don't think the 'experience' will be the same as a freely revving petrol engine - that's really the only thing I've got against diesels: I enjoy a good petrol engine (hence the Civic and it's k20a style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />). But I'll soon know: visiting the inlaws today and they've got an 07 Fabia vRS and an older Ibiza TDI 130 Sport - hoping to go out in at least one of them for a wee drive later.
