just check it's all straight and no crashes, you always hear about people getting them and they've been crashed, tap panels, check the sounds hollow, no bodge, wheels are straight that kind of thing. I once bought a crashed one . . . . .

GTI gearboxes are like all of them, just check it shifts okay. pedal box isn't an issue because it's hyraulic not cable so there's less stress.

mk2 calipers bite. I used mk3 on mine. It's still less rusty than an 8V campaign I had, in the end I let it go for 100 as there was no way I was bothering. I'm fancying a 16V mk2 as a side project myself at the minute. I've got a real boner for them at the minute. Are the plans to keep it standardish or simply go all out ? Rich
