I guess I am being cautious particularly from a resale perspective. I plan to keep the car for a while, however, its good to know if you are potentially going to take a hit should you wish to sell it. If anyone does have a mint unmolested low mileage Anthracite GTI they are thinking of parting with then please let me know.

Many thanks for the info - much appreciated. I was aware of the colour limitations and slightly better spec i.e. side airbags, aircon and kick plates. I was originally looking for one of the extremely rare anthracite UK cars, however, I think I have more chance of winning the lottery. I know the Japanese don't salt their roads so rust wise there shouldn't be a problem. I am however concerned about buying an import and am looking for any thoughts in this respect as well as anybody's experience of Locate A Car or Performance Point.

I have been looking for several months for a mint, low mileage, standard GTI and needless to say I haven't found one yet. Initially I discounted the Japanese imports however I have started to consider these as an option. Is there any obvious downside to buying an import and has anyone had dealings with either Locate A Car in Lichfield or Performance Point in Bristol.

Sorry maybe I wasn't specific enough. I believe the 6 speed box was introduced in 2001 but I wanted to narrow it down to exactly when in 2001.

I have hunted high and low but I cant find exactly when the 6 speed gearbox replaced the 5 speed box. Any help appreciated.

I purchased these two complete new units in March this year from my local VW Dealership. They were fitted to my Lupo for 6 months during which time the car did approximately 300 miles. They are unmarked and priced at £70 for the pair and I would prefer collection. Alternatively I can post at the buyers expense or I am prepared to travel within a 50 mile radius of Cardiff to meet someone. Guys, many thanks for your thoughts. Spec wise I think Japanese Lupo GTI's have side airbags as standard and possibly aircon. I read somewhere that the only colours available for the Japanese market were black, silver or red so any hope of a laser, Raven or Anthracite are unlikely. I am selling my completely standard 2005 05 GTI with 18,300 miles on the clock (provisional advert on CL Cars for Sale) and I am about to place it on Auto Trader but I think I am probably going to have to adjust the price down somewhat in order that its competitive with these imports.

There appears to be about half a dozen of these currently on Auto Trader with the company in Bristol who are specialising importing them. The prices are no doubt attractive, however, how does an import stack up in resale terms against the equivalent Lupo GTI which was registered in the UK from new or are these imports going to adjust the UK second hand market down. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Prior to my current GTI, I had a reflex silver 05 plate GTI which had 36K on the clock when I sold it in February 2014 for £7,300. It went within 24 hours of being advertised. I missed it so much that I bought the black one which I currently have in September 2014. Anyway I wish you the very best with the sale of your car.

On the basis the GTI you are advertising is 2 years older than mine with more than double the mileage then I don't think a £2K price difference between our cars is optimistic. Late registered, incredibly low mileage and low number of owner GTI's are pretty scarce!

I wanted to give anyone on here who is looking for a late registered totally standard Black Lupo GTI, advance notification that I will be putting mine up for sale on Auto Trader in early January. The car was built in February 2005 and first registered in the UK in May 2005 to a VW dealership. They ran it as a demonstrator and sold it to a lady in August 2005 with 1472 miles on the clock. I purchased the car in September 2014 from the lady with the mileage standing at approximately 17,000. The only reason I am selling the car is a change of jobs means I am losing my company car next Easter and I need to purchase something a bit more child friendly as the main family car. Since owning the Lupo I have had the timing belt and water pump replaced. I have also had new discs and pads fiited all round, a new battery, rear shocks and drivers door checkstrap. The car had an inspection service in September this year. The interior is immaculate and has never been smoked in. The original carpet mats are present and are in excellent condition. A set of genuine Lupo rubber mats for winter use will also be included in the sale. The rear spoiler had the common issue of bubbling when I bought the car so this has been professionally stripped and resprayed with a new high level brake light fitted. The alloys were a bit tired due to the car being 9 years old so these have been completely stripped, dipped and colour matched to the original VW specification. At the same time I had 4 brand new Toyo Proxes tyres fitted in the correct size of 205/45/15, together with new genuine VW centre caps and badges. I have also renewed all exterior badges with new genuine VW ones as they were a little tarnished. I have also replaced the wiper arms front and rear together with the wiper blades and the aerial antenna, again with genuine VW parts. I have fitted new number plates made up by my local VW dealership. The car was professionally detailed in May and looks stunning. I will be advertising the car at £7,995. VW Badge/Emblem for the centre of the grille - OEM VW part number 3BO 853 601 ULM. These normally retail for approximately £30, I am looking for £16 posted.
