  4. Oh and for those who asked, I do not wish to sell the plate. It goes with the car, it adds character to a cheeky little Car.
  5. I have a mountain of receipts from previous owners and from the parts I've done. It does have a/c. I have always wanted one and would love to keep it but the drive is only big enough for 2 cars. My Audi s2 takes pride of place in garage. And meaning no dis respect to lupo but it's no S2;-)
  6. http://s172.photobucket.com/user/monkeymagic1979/library/ As promised, I spent some time on the old girl today and took some decent pictures..
  7. Can someone advise me how to post pictures as I have some much better recent pictures but cannot figure it out on here.

  9. I am putting my Lupo GTI up for sale as I have a habit of buying cars on a whim, even though I dont need it. I bought her a few months ago with a number of the common Lupo faults. Since I have had it I have done check straps, high tail brake light, had the roof and spoiler re-sprayed due to a little lacquer peel, fitted a repair kit to the rear wiper, replaced front and rear discs, put 4 Toyo Proxes tyres on her, a new ABS sensor, oil, plugs and filters changed, replaced the missing trim from the front bumper, replaced front top mounts, rear shocks, front lower arms and ball joints, both front drive shafts due to worn inner CV joints causing a slight vibration. I have replaced a window switch and the drivers door wiring loom. Prior to my ownership she has had the gear box rebuilt and a new clutch fitted. She is very straight with only a few tiny blemishes. The interior is very clean too. She is a nice looking car with the drive to suit. I want £3750 for her, i paid £3000 for her and have spent over 1k sorting all the niggles. She is a nice example that does not need anything spending on her.She is MOT'd til August and she will come with the reg plate. Ill let the pictures do the talking. If you are interested please call me on 07734441065. The car is based in Redditch Worcesterhsire. Steven.
  10. Yesi agree but they dont make GTi specific shocks. The mounting point has more to it, to off set the extra width of the bottom ball joint and the overall wider track. With out the extra width you get a car that has 2 degrees of negative camber making the car very twitchy! I have found that the only company that do after market GTI specific shocks are Bilstein but these are very pricey. It seems that people suffer the same problems with Coilovers so elongate the bolt holes. VW spent lots of money of R&D so i trusted their experience and put originals back on and it has been transformed.
  11. did you fit a genuine switch. They are only about 8 quid from dealers. The ecp ones are terrible quality. When you fit them you only get 1 chance as they set themselves when you lock them into position.
  12. Well lesson learned i re fitted some VAG shocks today and the car is transformed. The monroes are going back to the motor factors asap for a refund.
  13. You need to check and bleed the brake fluid first. Then I would reset the rear calipers by winding the piston back into the caliper. Re seat pads and caliper then pump the brake pedal to take up the slack. Only then should you use the handbrake lever. It may be that the set up was wrong or it could be that previous owner has cut corners or cocked something up. When yu pull the lever do the caliper actuator arms pull on and release fully?
  14. Your thermostat is stuck open and the engine is over cooling. Its common on all VAG cars. I do several a month. To read your coolant temp via the G62 you just go into engine 01 then measuring blocks 08 then scroll through the various readings you will get to coolant temp.
  15. If you search on VAG 1.4 16 valve timing there are step by step guides with pictures.
  16. Have you still got a belt on the car? if you bring the crank to TDC lining up the mark on the pulley with the back plate and the mark on flywheel with the pointer with the window in the gearbox. There are two holes, one on each cam pulley. They will be horizontal and adjacent to one another. You need a tool which inserts 8 mm pints through each of the pulleys and into a holes in the head. I recommend getting the correct tool. I have seen people use 8mm drill bits but the exhaust cam will rock slightly and it will run but very rough. The correct tool has a bridging piece between the two pins to stop the cams rocking.
  17. Anyone else experienced this? Do mk2 golf struts fit?
  18. I have looked on the definitive coil over thread and on the last page there is a picture of a GTI strut compared to a AP coilover. It looks identical except the elongated bolt hole
  19. Brill I got quoted with a discount around 160 the pair from VW. It seems that people experience the same problem with coil overs and they open out the holes to allow extra movement. I wonder what is unique about the GTI struts is it the extra material on the mounting point or is it down to damping?
  20. Hi I'm Steven, I own a 2001 lupo GTI in red. The car is standard. I have recently replaced the driveshafts due to a vibration under load in 4th/5th gear. This was traced to worn inner CV joints. While I was at it I went to town and replaced the rotten lower arms, new ball joints (from VW) as motor factors dont recognise the difference with GTI ones and others. I also replaced both front shocks as the originals have 100k on them. However since i have replaced them I have 2 degress of negative camber and it is the limit of adjustment. The guy doing the alignment was pulling his hair out. I have since found out that the GTI (6E) has different shocks. I assume the difference is a larger mounting to allow for the wider track and off set the wider lower ball joints. Andrew Page again dont recognise that the GTI has different shocks. Has anyone else experienced this, if so what is the answer. New shocks from VW??? these are twice the price of Monroe and they are on back order anyway. I have read that people had the same problem with coilovers and have elongated the bolt holes in the strut mountings to allow the extra movement. I have spoken to Andrew Pages and they will take the Shocks back as they are not fit for purpose. However the only option I have then is to refit the old shocks which seem fine but must be worn. Any advice is appreciated.
  21. Hello all. I've just impulse bought a red lupo gti on a 2001 plate. I was aware of some problems with the car so I'm starting to work through the list. I'm after a pair of wing mirrors as the aluminium base On both has fractured. Anyone got any for sale? Many t
