  1. Mmm....shiney black VW boot badge on a nice shiney black boot. Seriously tempted. Shame there ain't any black 'GTi' badges with a red 'i' though. That would be nice.
  2. Cheers fella's. Will definitely check to see if it's wax! I wouldn't be suprised as I gave it a good old splattering of Meguier's a couple of weeks ago! Like the idea of the black badges......
  3. Speaking of GTi badges, the red 'i' on my rear badge has faded so needs replacing. I was going to just get the standard replacement but if someone can point me in the direction of some quality alternatives I would be grateful. Ta
  4. As posted before, I would throroughly recommend Rainsport 195/45's. Mine were fitted a month ago and after approx 1000 miles over the christmas period I can't fault them.
  5. Does look good in silver, but I would do the whole wheel - including the centre caps. I'll take some close up pics of my wheels after I've cleaned all the salt off them this weekend!
  6. I do York to Edinburgh at least 6 times a year. I ignore the A1 cos it's full of trucks and pensioner's with caravans. Can be good late at night though! I generally do the A19 and A697 through Coldstream - done it in just over 3 hrs - 3 points on my licence arrived shortly afterwards!
  7. I should be able to come along for this. Paddy(Scottish_Sport_16V) P88bel(Simon) Lupo_Gti_Lee(Lee) markymark (Mark?) john craig ( one litre wonder) Ian (I99Y) +Jacqueline Starbank (Drew)
  8. Personally, I would put the original Loop lights back on - not a great fan of the clusters. Cannae see the point in making it look like an Arosa. Sorry.
  9. To be honest, I'd rather be stuck to the road like glue in this weather, than worry about the rolling radius - there's not a huge difference anyway! Don't get me wrong, if someone other than Dunlop bothered their ass to make 205's for the GTi, I would of course whack them on in a jiffy - but there ain't, and by the sounds of it there ain't going to be for wee while yet.
  10. I totally agree!. There really is hardly any difference in appearance for so much more grip!. Go and get them Rainsport's or Toyo 195's - you know it makes sense.
  11. Name: Drew Age: 33 (average age is rising!!!) From: York originally now Edinburgh Job: Project Manager for Construction Consultants. Drives: Black 6 speed GTi Other Info: Owned VW's since 18 and follow the mighty QPR! Pic: your nose.
  12. Get some Uniroyal Rainsports they are superb tyres - won all sorts of awards too! (Another bloomin item I should be getting commission on!) My rear Dunlops lasted 35,500 miles but the fronts were replaced after just 8,000 miles. Second pair lasted me until I changed to Uniroyals last week.
  13. I was there when they had a new V10 TDI Toureg and Phaeton blasting round the track before the racing! We were sitting it the top of the stand at the first corner so had a great view.
  14. Quality stuff! I went to see Carvell racing in his Lupo 1.8T a couple of years back at Croft. Unbelievably quick and great to watch all of the cars. His brother was the only one who could keep up - in a modified Mk 1 Golf!
  15. Seems like I've a good deal then eh - that's with 6 points on my licence for speeding too! Mind you I'm 33 with 5+ years no claims bonus. It helps......alot. Tell you what though, it's well worth shopping around if you have been with the same insurers for a few years. I'm currently with CIS `Co-operative` and the renewal premium was £606! Robbing gits.
  16. £339 fully comp with Elephant?. If so, who with? Ta
  17. If you can be bothered travelling up to Scotland - I got mine from Scott Tyres who are based in Broxburn just outside Edinburgh - £35.95 each.
  18. I think the conersion factor is 14.5 - so your running at 2.0bar front and back - roughly the same as me. I might just let some more pressure out because at 2.bar they are pretty much 100% capacity. I agree with you though, better to be firm than soft - looking forward to driving to York this weekend - plenty of country roads all the way!
  19. New tyres fitted last Friday - had a run over the weekend around the slippery cobbled streets in Edinburgh and the grip compared to the Dunlops is in a different world! One slight query for anyone else who has these - what tyre pressures have you got with the new tyres? I can't even get 2bar pressure in them! Currently running at 1.9bar in all tyres and they feel about right - if not still too hard! Another thing too, to the `non-educated`, the width doesn't look any different to the 205's despite the fact they're 195's, and I would go so far as to say they look a lower profile too! Bargain at £36 a pop.
  20. I've had a bit of grief with my keys over the last year. The first time the remote didn't work, I had to get VW recovery out because the immobiliser was engaged and the alarm kept going off every time I opened the car with the key in the lock. It was only then that the fella told me that you literally have seconds to get the engine started before the alarm is set off - excellent if someone nicks your key but a royal pain if your battery runs out! Another wee tip also - make sure that you always press the remote when you are within at least 4m of the car. Over using the remote outside it's predetermined range will corrupt the key (another security trick) which means you have to reset the key. Of course all this may be in the manual!
  21. Good news - just too bloody late for me!. As we speak the loop is getting a full set of new shoes - Rainsport1's. I doubt the new Toyos would be £36 a pop either!
  22. Skoda will not be releasing a VRS version of the new Octavia until mid 2006 - but they've still dropped the price of all Octavias including the VRS by 10%. Having sat in a standard one at the weekend the quality is easily as good as the new Golf.
