Hi all, I am on the verge of buying myself a GTI and I am already thinking about changing the wheels. The car will probably be black and I was thinking that a set of black wheels with chrome/stainless rim would look good on it. I think I want to stick to 15" wheels so that the ride and handling is unaffected and close to stock. I would welcome any recommendations that people have tried and know they will fit the Lupo. In addition, any advice on offsets etc I should be looking at that would fit the Lupo and avoid arch rubbing etc

Yes, thanks. The car has no mods at the moment. The type of mods was thinking was mainly a sports exhaust back box and upgraded suspension so I doubt I will need more powerful brakes. If Pagid are recommended then I may pick some up as ECP are doing 30% discount at the moment

Hi all, Which set of brake pads and discs would you recommend for the rear of the GTI ? I have seen a few cheap sets on eBay such as Mintex etc as well as the Euro Car Parts stuff such as Pagid and Eicher but not sure which are best

Hi all, In my hunt for a Lupo GTI, I went to see a red one today. Mechanically it has been well looked after with a load of receipts for recent mechanical work carried out. Unfortunately, the same care that has been applied to the mechanics did not extend to the body. One of the more worrying things was paint bubbling (like you typically see where rust is coming through from the metal underneath) on the lower part of the front wings, where they meet the sills. I understand that these wings are meant to be aluminium so it is baffling me why the paint should be bubbling as if there is rust. Does anyone have this on their cars and what could be causing it ? Also, does anyone know how much a fully body respray might cost on one of these cars. Not a windows out job but more of a freshen up of the paint given it might need some body repairs and a new rear bumper ? Thanks:)

The 964 looks great in red. I do like those and storing it has definitely worked. In fact all air cooled pork has appreciated dramatically over the last 3-4 years. I saw your one in the clasifieds but unfortunately it is outside my price range. I only want to spend an absolute max. of £3k. I already have 3 other cars I need to love and care for, this is a little personal luxury for me. I was looking at Clio 172/182 but they ar a bit of a boy racer car compared to the Lupo. My first choice is a Clio Williams but finding a good one that is not rusty is tough and I have all but given up

I see you have a 2001, I assume that is a 5 speed. Interesting comment. Why would you not consider another 5 speed ? When did the 6 speed box start finding its way into the GTI ?

Hi all, I don't yet own a Lupo GTI but I am on the lookout for one. Assuming the car is standard, what would be the recommended upgrades for the car, in order of the maximum impact they would have i.e. best upgrades first. Before the recommendations come in, I am not into changing the styling of the car but upgrades that make it perform better or address common issues are on my list eg better handling, better sounding etc. I look forward to reading your suggestions

Thanks for your posts. I will take a look at your car Jay. How many previous owners does it have ? The car I am looking at is registered in April/May 2002 I think but it has the 5 speed box. What are the issues/problems with the 5 speed on a Lupo - do the suffer the same problems as the Polo ?

Hi all, New here (posted in the Intro section) and on the hunt for a Lupo GTI. I have to admit, these cars did not factor into my thught process before I started looking but having come across this interesting little car, it is growing on me. I have joined here to find out a little more and hopefully get some advice from the Lupo community ! I am hoping to see one at the weekend and had a few questions: - It is a 5 speed, should I be worried given the Polo rep ? Should I hold out for a 6 speed ? What is the difference when driving (other than extra gear ) when driving between the two ? - What kind of mileage can these engnes/drivetrain do before needing expensive work ? - Is Red a good colour for these cars (I haven't seen on in the flesh yet) ? - Other than rust on roof and checking the electric windows, are there any other common faults I should look/check for ? Hi all, No I am not a vampire but I thought it would be courteous to introduce myself with my first post. I suspect I maybe older than the average member age here being in my early 40's but on the bright side (I think), I remember the days when the first Golf GTIs, the Renault 5GT TUrbo, XR3is, RS Turbos etc were a common sight on our roads ! I currently own a few cars but would really like a small, fun and spirited littel hatchback for running around town in. I had narrowed it down to a few cars such as a Civic Type-R, Renault Clio 172/182 or Peugeot 106 Rallye and then I came across the Lupo GTI. The little Lupo is on my short list and I am impressed at the following it has - looking forward to learning more......
