  1. When I bought my GTI it came with a BMC fitted, I was quite impressed with the performance, probably because I didn't know any different, and it sounded pretty good. That was until I got annoyed with being blasted to death with fumes from the engine bay every time I turned the fans on, so I put the original air box back on with a fresh genuine filter. The first thing I noticed was the improved throttle response, a vast improvement over the BMC. I'm also pretty sure it has more torque at lower revs - below 3k. I don't have any graphs to prove it, but with the BMC fitted it not much happened below 3k, then it took off at 5k, more all or nothing. Does anyone have any dyno graphs before and after with the BMC fitted? I can't see myself fitting it again, so it might be in the for sale section soon.
  2. 185 to 225 on the 7 inch, and 205 to 245 on the 8 inch. Obviously the narrower you go, the more sidewall you'll need as it will be stretched.
  3. There isn't really mate, unless you fancy replacing loads of bits to rule things out.
  4. It could be many things, plugs, leads, coil pack, lambda, MAF etc. Take it to a garage and get the fault codes read, or do it yourself with VAG COM.
  5. I actually thought I was reading the most f*cked up thread ever until I got to the bottom line lol

    Misfiring GTI

I might get some leads from them too, coil pack was half the price of a genuine one, and so are the leads. A total saving of £90 can't be bad, especially when I'm potentially looking at needing a replacement clutch in the not to distant future.
  7. Hmm, I think its either the clutch release bearing or the throwout bearing, either way it'll need a new clutch sometime soon
  8. As above, when I pull away from standstill I hear this kind of squeel/chirping noise like a belt is slipping. The cambelt was done 10k ago, and the auxiliary drive belt seems fine. I'm at a loss, hopefully its nothing expensive, any ideas? Edit: Sounds a bit like this only not so loud;

    Misfiring GTI

It was only slightly overfilled, nothing that would cause a misfire, which is good. Misfire on cylinder number 3 on VAG COM, so changed the coil pack for a pattern one from Euro Car Parts @ £76. Terminal number 3 snapped off when we took off the HT lead. Leads are also corroded so will need new leads at some point. The coil pack works fine though. I read to stay away from pattern parts but at half the price of a genuine one I though it was worth a shot. It seems to accelerate a lot better, just need to get the leads changed then it should be even better.

    Misfiring GTI

I'll take it back tomorrow and see what they say.

    Misfiring GTI

I just checked the oil level and it seems to be quite a bit over the fill area of the dip stick, I'm guessing this would cause a misfire?

    Misfiring GTI

Thanks mate, that confirms what I was thinking. Any idea how much a genuine coil pack is? Would a pattern one be any worse as the genuine ones are made of cheese anyway?
  13. I took the Lupo in for a service this morning (oil and filter), all was good until I went for a quick drive earlier then it started misfiring under acceleration in high gears, or up hills etc. An engine check light also came on. I checked the manual and it says its the exhaust emissions warning lamp. I'm guessing its probably the coil pack because if they're anything like the rest of the VW's I've owned, they are pants! Any ideas what it could be?

    Nicks gti

Still waiting for the tow eye covers Nick, its been a week and I'm losing my patience to be honest, I don't like being ignored. I know they don't cost much but a deals a deal. If you can't find them you could at least paypal me the money to cover the parts, like I said in the text, I don't mind paying to get them sprayed.
  15. I'm after rear Lupo and GTI badges, the GTI grill badge, and some new Bathurst centre caps. I read on another thread that Lupoboz was selling them but it seems he isn't trading anymore. Does anyone know how much they are from VW, or if possible, is there anywhere I can get them cheap? Thanks, James.
  16. Thanks for the tip, I think you might be right, thinking about it the window wasn't going up straight, it was lop sided. How much are you after for the regulator Lewrssll? Just in case it turns out to be past it.
  17. I picked up the Lupo today, I've not had so much fun in a car since my Mk2 Golf days. A few things need sorting but the main problem is the drivers side window comes half way up and slowly grinds to a halt. I did manage to get it to close again after a frustrating five minutes. Do I need a new regulator, motor or both. Also where can I get one if needed, and roughly how much am I looking at to purchase one? Thanks.

  19. Hi, I pick the Lupo up tomorrow and when I went to have a look last week I noticed it sounded like the exhaust was blowing when it was first started up, but it sounded normal once warmed up. My Mk2 Golf GTI used to do the same on choke and the exhaust was fine, I was wondering if this is normal for Lupo's too. Thanks in advance, James.
  20. Thanks Snoopy, that is a brilliant shot too. Perfect exposure on the foreground and I love the way the stars look like they radiate from a set point, you don't often see that. Here's another one I took last summer, I can't wait to get back into it, stupid leg
  21. If your car really sounds like that then oil won't help it, you need a new gearbox!
