  1. thanks for the replies. I haven't got a powercap, I also haven't got a multimeter, I'll have a look at getting one to test the battery. the speakers are rated at 50wrms per channel and the channels i've got them connected to on the amp produce 60 wrms per channel. I bought these items because i thought it was always better to have a little too much power than too little, to prevent clipping happening. I'm not sure it is the speakers because it had been working perfectly for a few months since i installed it all. and its just since it sat doing nothing for a week and i started it up that the problem has started.
  2. Hi all, I've recently been having some trouble with the audio in my Lupo. I'm wondering whether the cold weather we've had recently has caused the problem, as the car failed to start the first couple of attempts after it had been left sitting for a week in the cold weather. It was after the car failed to start (once i finally got it going) that i noticed the issue with the bass. I have an aftermarket headunit/sub/amp/speakers installed. The music cuts out during bass heavy sequences, then starts again when the bass finishes. i've had all the kit installed for a few months with no trouble at all, so i know that it's wired up correctly. I've looked on the amp when the music cuts out and the 'protection' light is on, then turns off when the music starts again. (it's a Hertz EP4 amp) I have checked the battery and it still has the green light on it, so that isn't the problem. Any thoughts would be much appreciated Cheers Jamie
  3. I can't comment on any of the equipment you have listed above as I've never used any of it. BUT I have a Pioneer DEH8300SD headunit which has been really good for me, loads of adjustment for sound quality, lots of connections for amps/ipods/iphones/mp3 etc and looks pretty cool too. I then have a hertz ep4 amp running a set of pioneer tsa171ci components in the front and the rear 2 channels on the amp bridged powering an 8 inch alpine subwoofer, which at the time of purchase was about £40 and had good reviews. That system goes pretty damn loud and doesn't really distort until you get to near the max volume, which you wouldn't want to listen to it at anyway . It also offers pretty decent sound quality at a reasonable cost. The 8 inch sub sounds like a much larger sub too. I've also treated the car with about £150 worth of dynamat to stop vibrating panels. Hope some of that is helpful Jamie
  4. I agree about it looking cramped, the two seat option is bad enough I suppose you wouldn't need coilovers if you regularly carried 3 passengers in the back though
  5. First of all, I am in no way connected with the seller of this car, i just noticed it and thought it was interesting. I haven't posted a link as I'm not sure if its allowed. It's a silver gti with black alloys if you want to have a search on the bay. This is the first time i've seen a 3 seater option in a gti and only ever seen a couple in the non-gti cars. Anyway thats all
  6. I'll just have to keep my eye out i guess. I did have an idea of getting ones with the electric window switch holes as they are more commonly available and then filling the hole with a small square of perspex type plastic, probably in gloss black. Not sure how that would look though :/
  7. thanks for your advice Koop, much appreciated! Chrisbee, thanks for that info, I had wondered what the finish would be like. I've been looking for a black set for a while, and they're all either ones with electric switch holes (I've got manuals) or in the light grey colour. Thanks for the offer, but just looking at your thread I think yours are electric ones too, big shame as its the passenger one i need most! :/
  8. haha I was wondering if anyone would suggest that. I've seen the photos of yours and it looks great! I kind of wanted it to look standard though, unless I found some material I really really liked...lol
  9. Hi, I am looking for a new set of upper front door cards for my Lupo as the current ones are really showing their age (handles chipped/scuffed etc and rear clips broken). I've seen a set which look to be in good condition, only trouble is they are light grey in colour, and the ones I have currently are the dark grey/black colour. I was wondering if anyone has tried spraying them black with fabric paint? I've had a look using the search and not really found any pictures of it being done. Would it work and give a decent finish? Thanks Jamie
  10. I saw this and same as above really; if I was closer, i'd take it
  11. really like what you've done so far, good work! I have the same recaro seats as you, just with the red centres instead of grey, did you get the rears retrimmed professionally or did you do it yourself? It's next on my to do list!
  12. Hi, I've just fitted some recaro front seats from a MK4 Golf GTI, they are the ones with red centres and look fantastic and are so so comfy. The 'how to' guide on here was fantastic so thanks to the person who posted that! When I bought the seats I got the whole interior including rear seats and door cards (which i'm now going to sell). My standard lupo seats also have red centres but obviously the patterns don't quite match. So the next job is to have the rear lupo seats trimmed in the recaro material from the golf seats. I have seen a member has managed to do this themselves in their lupo gti, and it looked fantastic, but I'm definitely not brave enough to attempt it myself. So has anyone got any companies/people they recommend who could do this for me? I'm based in East Kent, so obviously the nearer to me the better! Thanks in advance, Jamie
  13. Thanks Thissy, I'll bare that in mind. Cheers but I have heard cheap coilovers give a bad ride, and one of my main aims is to keep the ride comfortable
  14. Hi, I'd like to upgrade the suspension on my Lupo 1.4e. The car is standard at the moment other than some Bathurst alloys with 195/45 tyres. These improved the handling a bit over the standard steels but I'd like some more improvement in handling and to reduce body roll. I've searched on the forum for similar topics and saw there were many about the eibach springs but not many comparing them to the fixed suspension kits/gti shocks and springs. I don't want to go low, so no more than 40mm drop as I prefer the standard look to massively lowered. I'd simply like to keep a comfortable ride but make it handle better in the corners. I've come up with a few different setups, I don't want to spend more than £250 as on a student budget; 1) Keep the standard shocks and simply add the Eibach pro kit - £140ish 2) Upgrade to gti shocks and add the Eibach pro kit - £140 plus cost of gti suspension (£60ish) 3) Fixed Suspension kits, AP do one of these, and I've read good things about their coilovers in terms of comfort and handling for the price. I'd be looking at the kit which lowers 35mm front and rear. £245 Here is a link http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=AP&category=Suspension&product=SuspKits I can't find many reviews of the fixed suspension kits, so maybe someone on here could offer some advice on these. Which of the above setups do you reckon is worth going for in terms of most improvement per pound. Cheers Jamie
  15. I almost covered the back of the plastic door card, and I had a little bit left over so put the rest on the metal of the door. When I was putting my new speakers in, I made sure to put 2/3 layers around the speaker mount which stopped a lot of unwanted vibration, the rest I cut into long 2-3cm wide strips and folded it over the edges of the metal surrounding the large central hole behind the door card. Hope this helps
  16. I had a similar problem, I put some dynamat (or similar) on the inside of the door card to dampen the vibrations, problem solved! Also make sure all the clips which hold the door card on are attached properly, and the screws in the bottom are tight
  17. Sorry I meant to post the link to the page which had the two suggested for the 1.4 16v Lupo. One is Torquex kit which is £54 The other is a Sachs kit which is £112 Both seem to have the same specification, only the Sachs has a year longer guarantee. So you reckon the Sachs kit is the one to go for? Cheers
  18. Hi, Think I'm going to have to replace the clutch on my Lupo, so have been looking around at replacement kits. Found this site which has two varieties of clutch for my model Lupo (2000 1.4E), but one is over twice the price of the other. I'm basically asking what the difference between the two is, and if I will gain anything by buying the more expensive kit. Here's the link http://www.onlineaut...tch%20Kits.aspx Any opinions welcome, Cheers, Jamie
  19. Hi Not sure if they're on ebay, but I have used Paisley Freight when sending alloys/tyres and had no problems. They seem to use citylink vans when collecting the items. Jamie
  20. I got this tyre attached to one of a set of bathursts I bought, but it was a different width to the others (which were 195s) I am therefore selling it as a single tyre on its own. The tyre holds air well and has no repairs to my knowledge, it has 4mm tread left, so plenty before it hits the legal limit. I have pictures of the tyre showing how much tread is left, just leave your email address and I'll send you them. Located in East Kent and can be picked up if you want or will courier it within the UK using Paisley Freight for £11.99 Price is £30 ONO collected. I will accept payment by paypal or cash on collection
  21. that is one of the coolest looking Lupos I've seen on here, GLWS mate
