  1. You guys into heavyweight kettles? Trust me the money is being spend on the older air cooled 911s with seat of your pants handling. GT3s are quick but detached with far too many toys which only add weight. The GT3 market is depreciating as reliability and engine failures put folk off. Check out the problems at The Ring with spilt coolant from GT3s killing bikers. If you like your cars like barges then buy a GT3. The 997 one is fatter and slower around the Ring than the 996RS! And yes I have had one and it was nice but not my cup of tea. ;O)
  2. Mike, Your spot on. In my road legal car I have to feather the thottle through some corners whereas in his RSR it is fully committed foot to the floor with 305/45/18 slicks on the back. He booted me out after 2 laps as I was going too fast he said! Thought I should learn the car first. It was identical to mine with more grip and power so I could really push. Funny I took the 968 out for some wet laps and I was drifting around Pouhon at 100+ mph. No rear weight or heat in the tyres. Less pressure did the trick and it went well. I need to stiffen the RS. I have new original springs so will add the cup dampers to flatten the corners a bit more. I need to get it all corner weighted again so will do it over the winter as I have a few days booked in the summer. I have 18" to go on too. If I go for slicks I need to drag the wheels around so MPcups will have to do. Should help the campaign next year to beat the "kettles" (GT3s). Charles

  16. I had the misfortune of having a oil leak on my 3.2 Carrera the morning of a Porsche drive from Perth to Ballater for lunch and back. It is a wonderful twisty road with lots of bumps and fast straights as well as the Devil's Elbow up to Glenshee. I had to take the G40 for the Porsche run! Well there was original RS, 964RS, 993TTs, 930TSE etc I managed to keep up with most of the cars but I must admit coming down the Devil's Elbow behind a 993TT and 930TSE was an eye opener. They shot off down the steep hill doing over 100. I finally caught up but not until I had taken off over the couple of bumps at the bottom of the hill. Not too bad the wee G40 when playing with the big boys. Must scan a photo of it with the Porsches. It was the courtesy car for OPC Perth and had Porsche service stamps in the book. Nice car.

  24. GT3 vs Lupo results! In the morning I drove a variety of A and B roads(100miles) in central Scotland. In the afternoon I drove 50 miles in the Lupo. GT3 felt quick but detached via the power steering. Plenty of power and razor sharp handling. Short shift gear box is brilliant. Cargraphic exhaust sounds the part. Only had one tail out moment on some Diesel on the main road. The twistys were perfect even in heavy rain. Point to point I don't think you could get quicker. It was too damn comfortable and it got to high speeds very quickly indeed. It felt like sitting in an armchair playing a computer game. In contrast....... The Lupo had more movement of the wheel for the same turning circle. It had better feedback of the road conditions. It could match the GT3 for speed, it just took a bit longer to get there. Brakes were not as good! Almost ended up on the roundabout braking too late! PedaL had much more travel. Clutch was featherweight in comparison. Suspension is Eibach and normal dampers but they really need replaced as the car bounces alot whereas the GT3 just took off and landed with a bang(Uniball). There was much more roll at speed on the corners in the Lupo. The driver was much more aware of the speed and conditions. So the conclusion is I will be keeping the Lupo and selling the GT3. Surprise. Surprise! Nice car for someone who just wants to go from A to B quickly though. Downside is it costs 10 times that of the Lupo. OK, I admit it the GT3 was fun. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
