  1. Yes indeed and they look a cracking set from originally from a golf/polo? re trimmed for arosa/lupo that I presume will go straight into a GTi http://forums.clublu...d=1347#overview I am tempted.
  2. Good point! they probably won't tilt :-( The cloth seats in my Gti are in excellent condition, but I feel that they let the car down slightly and VW appear to have got them wrong (it would have been interesting to see what variations would have been put on later models if production had continued) I'm happyish to put up with them, but an outstanding replacement set would tempt me to put right what VW got wrong.
  3. I think these would look brilliant in a Lupo Gti http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-VW-POLO-GTI-9N3-INTERIOR-SEATS-DOOR-CARDS-5-DOOR-RARE-/150809322792?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item231cefa528 a tad pricey I know but how much fettling would the need, I have not real experience of replacing seats like this, it says that they would fit straight into any polo from 02-08 but are the seat fitments the same on the Lupo Gti?
  4. MK2 Polo, absolute belter of a car - old B reg, I bought it with 120,000 on the clock back in 1993 and sold it 2 years later for the same price as a I bought it but with 145k on the clock, the new owner asked me if it would get to London from Durham and thought the brakes were a tad numb as they were non servo assisted so you had to break in plenty of time! I clearly remember the clutch cable snapping and it rolling to a halt in the middle of a crossroad Would be kind of nice to have one again - funny little cars - absolutely brilliant in the snow as had narrow wheels/tyres and heavy engine and no traction control/power steering to worry about - very basic cars though compared to modern ones.
  5. There appears to be an obsession with lower mileage cars, this is either inflating prices for these or lowering the price of GTi with higher mileage. As long as its been looked after there IMO the difference is marginal. In my view why pay £5,000-6000 for a car that you can get in more or less the same condition with more miles for between £3,000 - 4,000. My point is that if you can stand the 'stigma' of a higher mileage you will be getting much better value for money for a higher mileage one, the only thing you need to be sure on is that that its been looked after/is in the best condition it can realistically be in. I'm not for keeping car's of this type/age locked up gathering dust, they need to be enjoyed and driven - any real increase in price over the years will be as a result of numbers becoming scarcer and folks messing them up with mods and tinkering (nothing wriong with this as they are enjoying their car) - eventually time will start to tell on these cars and as the years go by - un molested, original GTi's will be very sought after and will fetch nice prices, the cost of keeping them in the meantime will far outwiegh any gain in selling - the joy of keeping one is what you are paying for.
  6. Yep agree should get a good price for it as it's low mileage, Has it got leather seats, aircon, or out fancy as a additional extra?
  7. I think a racing green or similar would have been a great colour, also think VW should have done a different set of alloys to choose from the bathursts. Other than that VW did a very good job :-)
  8. Cheers for the advice thats what i intend to do, thankfully I'm in no rush to complete the job as its garaged and not a daily drive, so I can put put light coats on at each stage and lightly sand down each stage to get a decent finish, the main problem i think will be getting a decent blend with the rest of the panel, the new paint is right on the lip so I don't know what it will look like when the masking comes off (I've been carfully peeling back the tape and blend as I go but i didnt want to massivly overspary onto the old area as the natural lip of the wheel arch looks to be the best place to join up) but I hope to get a decent join up and lightly overpraying should leave a tidy finish. Ideally it needs a professional respray but my main priority is stopping the rust.
  9. thats why I was surprised that I has the problem as the arches are very clean, good drainage and the arch liners appeared to be doing their job. I suppose the car is 11 years old and at sometime in the past it may be been molested in this area causing very small crakage in thee paint and hence a bit of surface rust, as I said the metalwork is in excellent condition so no rot issue, just surface rust that you would not spot unless inspecting, but will spread if not dealt with. Just put a second coat of stone chip on, a bit more sanding to do before the top a colour and some laquer. Its the laquer I'm most bothered about as it tends to run :-(
  10. Excellent, has it had any work done or still as it came off the production line.
  11. My GTi (born in 2001) has no other significant rust issues other than some surface rusting and bubbling/blistering of the paint on the wheel arches (right on the lip as it curves underneath) both sides are in more or less the same condition, I'm nipping it in the bud before it deteriorates. I'm in the middle of repairing the damage (wish I taken some befire pics now) - on sanding down it revaled it's nothing more than surface rust and the metal is fine but it's in a pig of a place to sand, prep up and respray. I've just finished the primer and will be adding the colour tomorrow, I'm hopiing I'll get away with a decent match/blend as it's in a real awkward position but it helps I'm just dealing with the underlip of the arches and not the 'outside/exposed' arch/panel - but I'm confident I'll do a decent enough job that will tidy it up nice before if spreads. I'm just interested if anyone else has the same problem or has done similar and if its typcal of Gti's this age to have rust here. Bit more about my Gti here http://forums.clublu...topic=77567&hl=
  12. Looks like set of alloys up for grabs for someone though
  13. Hi Folks When starting my Lupo GTi, if I inadvertently nudge the wiper stalk (easily done) it has a habit of blowing the front wiper fuse. I suspect its just a case of replacing the stalks as the contacts may have deteriorated - but before I do that, I just wondered if anyone else had the same problem and how they sorted it. Thanks
  14. Next bit of work required is quite a tricky one. Both rear wheel arches have a bit if rust bubbling up . Thankfully I can get in into a large garage and on some stands to perform the operation. The only thing I'm not that confident of is finishing the job off and getting a good blend with the old and new paintwork - I suppose a bit of care with some rubbing compund will do the trick, the main thing is removing the rust and stopping it spreading before it does any real damage.
  15. Thanks, pop some pics up and let us know how your getting on with yours
  16. Currently on Autotrader http://www.autotrade.../1500?logcode=p they are just asking 2,200 for it, considering all the work its had done and as long as its got nothing serioulsy wrong with it, it could be a nice buy for someone. I'm not eaxctly certain what the problem is but it just looks wrong on the photos, could be just poor photography but it just doesnt look right.
  17. Not that expensive - I can't rember off hand but about 150 quid for new handles (both the grab handles and the ones that open the door) whcih I purchased from lupoboz on here http://forums.clublu...showtopic=67697 - not fiddly at all - there is a guide to doing it on here somewhere.
  18. You can do a test but you would destroy it in the process, the kit and custom cars get by on a technicality, - the simple fact that its not on the market in Europe means its not been tested - so you can't register it :-( The MK1/MK2 Golf's are the closest cars to it but they were before the modern euro safety tests so not a direct comparison, my mate has looked into every way possible but he just has to sit a wait another 7 years or so.
  19. Just a quick update now I've had it just over a year, so its insured and taxed again :-) flew through MOT and its had a service, also needed a new battery the only other slight nag is that the boot lock has stopped working with the central locking :-( - don't know if its just being temperamental or is actually buggered and it has a habit of blowing the windscreen wiper fuses - I suspect its a sloppy connection in the indicator stalks thankfully it's garaged and only really take it out at weekend or when the other cars are getting services, but hope to take it on a good few drives and hopefully to a show some day Runnings costs are in the region of about £800 a year and that includes absolutely everything (only doing about 1500 miles in it) - this year may be a bit cheaper as I've had one or two one off jobs done in the first year
  20. My mate has one in the UK - he imported it from South Africa a few years back but can't legally use it as it's not been Euro Safety Standard tested, he can after the car is ten year old as ten year old cars don't need to meet the standard, so it's just garaged up till then.
  21. Where did you get the WV centres from - are they just stickers? I've got a set of these but just have the lenso branding on them, would be nice to get them VW branded.
  22. Cheers for the offer but I'm sticking with getting a proper GTi replacement
  23. If I went down the insurance route, I would be almost certain not to get a Gti windscreen and just a bog standard Lupo one - and not even VW one at that. I'm happy to pay VW for a guenuine replacement - as the years go on they will stop makiing them and i don't want to be left having to put a bog standard one in that quite honestly would look crap compared to the proper one. If it were just one chip I would not care but I've got 4 now and it's looking at bit sorry for itself :-(
