  1. what program required 56gb to install? that would come on 10 dvd's.
  2. just use something like http://www.bombich.com/index.html clone your original mac hard disk to your new hard disk in an external caddy. or if you don't have an external caddy you could just put the new drive in the macbook and just install the operating system from scratch from the dvd that comes with the machine.
  3. piece of piss to fit, just undo the screws from the bottom plate on the macbook pro, lift the plate off and you can see the memory and hard disk under there.
  4. well the 4gb upgrade makes things a bit snappier if you are running lots of apps, but the reason i did it was because i run a virtual windows machine using virtualbox, and giving it lots of memory is pretty vital for it to run quick. 2gb would be fine for normal usage, a SSD or 7200rpm hard disk would make more of a difference in day to day normal usage.
  5. just to add, as far as i'm aware, the macbook doesn't have the remote reciever if you wanna use the apple remote, whereas the macbook pro does. but if you have a touch or an iphone you can use them over wifi with snatch to control your stuff anyway.
  6. i bought the basic spec 13" pro with 2.26ghz c2d processor, 2gb of ram, and 160gb hard disk. i then bought 4gb of ram from ebuyer for £75 and a 7200rpm 500gb hard disk for £83. total including the machine itself comes to £1058. to purchase that spec machine ready built from apple would cost £1139, but they don't offer a 7200rpm drive option, only 5400rpm. obviously you could do the same upgrades yourself to the macbook you were considering, but i just think it's worth getting the pro in the first place as over the space of however many years you will keep it, £100 isn't really a massive amount extra and i recon it will stand up to the test of time better.
  7. i literally just bought a macbook pro at the weekend. i would personally go for the pro, but that's cos i love the aluminium body, and i wanted the sd card slot for uploading my camera photos. i also use my laptop in bed sometimes when i'm sitting up at night, so the backlit keys are useful. overall i'd say for £100 extra the pro is worth it, and will be worth more and be more desirable if you come to resell in a few years time if you want to upgrade to a newer model. i guarantee you will want to upgrade the hard disk soon enough anyway for either an SSD when the price comes down, or a 7200rpm drive which gives around 30% better performance, so IMO buying a pro is a better option.

  9. focus - amazing (and i really do mean amazing) engine. 2.5 litre 5cyl with 225bhp as standard, and with a remap and a few mods can see 300bhp very easily. i would never have bought a ford previously, but they really have raised their standards with their current range of cars. it's silly fast, stupid amount of torque, and put your foot down in any gear and it flys, even 6th is pretty savage. 2 people on this forum have driven my car, putney and 2001gti, they will probably pass comment if they read this thread what the car is like to drive. biggest down side is it averages 23mpg which is a killer if you need to do some big mileage. s2000 - a real drivers car, but also bites back if you aren't careful as i found out. revs forever, up to 9000rpm, and is pretty damn quick, and amazing fun to drive in good conditions, but absolute hell to drive if the roads aren't dry. the most fun car to drive that i've owned. fabia vRS - a great compromise between economy and performance. mine was remapped and saw 170 odd bhp on the dyno, and 300ft/lb. foot down in any gear and it accellerated hard, and still returned 45mpg on average. didn't handle great, but i didn't mod any of the suspension other than having cupra bushes fitted. definitely a good choice if you are looking for a quick cheap diesel as you can pick them up dirt cheap now. biggest down side for me was the white interior which got grubby and was easily damaged. polo gti - wouldn't own one again. everyone i know who's owned one has had gearbox problems, mine needed a new box and clutch. not very quick, and not all that exciting. a good little runabout to own, but not special enough. ibiza cupra - i only bought my 2nd cupra because i had rose tinted specs and couldn't remember what was so bad about my first one that made me get rid of it. a 200bhp is a fairly quick car, but they just don't handle well, and they are boring. fuel consumption is pretty poor, but to be expected really from a turbo'd car if you cain it all the time. mine hit 100k and things started going wrong with it so i got rid. lupo gti - needs no explanation really on this forum. my only complaint about the gti is that it's too slow. i recon with a supercharger/turbo on it would be the car it should have been in the first place. got rid cos i was bored and the ibiza cupra came up at a good price. lupo sport - how the hell this can be classified as "sporty" is beyond me. wasn't impressed so got rid within 2 months. mine had leather and aircon, that was its only saving grace. saxo vts - other than the s2000 this is the most fun car i've owned. AMAZING handling, quick too as it's practically made of kitkat wrappers. uber cheap to run, only thing that spoils it is the poor image they have. mr2 turbo - very quick, but they are getting old now and inevitably need money spending on them. mine handled like a pig on rollerskates and was lethal in the wet. the turbo spooled up and BANG the power came in and broke traction if you weren't careful in the dry, and without warning in the wet. great fun with the T-bar roof in the summer. again, another car that's very very thirsty on fuel. wouldn't ever get another, they have definitely had their day. ibiza cupra - see above commment. got bored of it. quick in a straight line but crap round corners. mini cooper - one of the old minis, not a new bmw one. i got this car very cheap as it was owned by a family friend, i made £1000 when i came to sell it, and that was after only a month!! how anyone can live with one of these things is beyond me. noisy, uncomfortable, sh1te on anything but smooth roads, you got bounced round everywhere, sloooooow, and just not a nice car to live with.
  10. now a 270bhp focus ST-3 before that an S2000 before that a fabia vRS before that a polo gti before that a 200bhp ibiza cupra before that a lupo gti before that a lupo sport (kept it for 2 months before realising i should have bought a gti in the first place) before that a saxo vts before that a 260bhp toyota mr2 turbo before that another 200bhp ibiza cupra before that a mini cooper before that another saxo another couple of cars that i can't think of right now too. inbetween all those i've had various sports bikes including a TT600, Ninja 636 and R1.
  11. not being funny but some people go on about their lupo gti's like they are the best thing since sliced bread. yeah they are a cool car, but they aren't fast and they handle averagely even on coilovers. i'll never understand how people can keep their cars for years and years and years unless it really is something very special. there are so many different cars out there. so what if you buy a car and get bored or it, just sell it and get a different one. anyone who sticks with the same car for years really is just missing out on the fun of owning a broad range of cars.
  12. i readily admit that i have turned full circle. my first apple product was an ipod nano when the first version came out, even then i only turned to a mac back in july, so it's only since then that i've seen the light. i did used to really hate apple stuff for no other reason than how i perceived the operating system without ever having used it. also my requirements from a machine have changed. back when i was younger i was most interested in having a big powerful machine and getting the most for my money. nowadays i'm willing to sacrifice performance for looks/style, and i am willing to look at the overall package rather than just figures. also obviously as you get older your earnings tend to increase (hopefully), so it makes sense that at some point you might re-evaluate your wants/needs in a desktop/laptop and suddenly find that a mac falls into your category when it previously didn't. at the end of the day apple product pricing really does put a lot of people off. on paper you are getting a pretty poor spec for the money. i mean £900 for a laptop with 2gb of ram and a 160gb hard disk..... that does kinda take the piss! the same goes for iphones, they really are horrendously expensive compared to normal phones, it's only once you get to play with one or own one that you can see they really are leagues ahead in terms of functionality.
  13. picked up a new 2.26ghz, 2gb, 160gb 13" macbook pro today and ordered 4gb of ram and a 7200rpm drive from ebuyer. really would have liked to try an SSD in it, but a decent capacity one is silly money still! really really pleased with it so far, loving the multitouch pad and much more convenient it makes web browsing. so now i have.... Macbook Pro Mac Mini 1.5tb Time Capsule Ipod Nano Iphone 3GS Anyone else more of an Apple whore? Next purchase is gonna be the 27" Imac, just need to decide if i can justify a quad core version or if the C2D will have to suffice.
  14. the 2 games that have got me through numerous train journeys are paper toss and physics free, both really really addictive.
  15. haha, don't flatter yourself! i don't think i've ever used the like/dislike buttons.
  16. i am pretty sure i'm going for a cayman S next in a last ditch attempt at spending a horrific amount of money on a car before it's too late.
  17. already on the ST owners club, but as they say...... don't **** on your own doorstep
  18. you're gonna blame the black kid. racist!
  19. yep, i'm like a bad smell, you just can't get rid of me. tbh i don't really know why i am still here, there are very few people i actually wish to converse with, it's just another distraction to waste vital minutes of the working day. on the plus side i look forward to seeing my reputation plummet into the deepest darkest depths, currently at "-12, poor"
  20. why would anyone risk breaking into a house just to steal a 1.0 arosa? (no offense) must have been something else there worth stealing.
