  1. As for actually driving the two cars. the 1.4 S (AUA) engine produces torque at 1000rpm earlier than the sport. it makes it feel as quick if not quicker just driving around town. you certainly notice the difference though when you open it up the S will feel dead over 4500rpm still a lot to give and will rev happily to 6000rpm but just doesnt feel powerfull enough. the sport will keep pulling to 7000rpm. especially with a few minor mods. I think if you're only planning short term to own the car, and only plan to drive it around town the price difference on the S may make it a better option. but if you want to keep it for a while and drive on the motorway a lot the sport will be a lot more fun. certainly in my case too the brakes on the sport are a lot better. I have discs all round but with the abs disabled. the S doesnt come with ABS anyway. although specs may have changed as my sport is a 2000 model and the S a 2001 model. Another thing imo the trim on the seats is much better in the S. and you may hve a better chance of finding one with the dark grey interior plastics. where as most of the sports I've seen for sale have light grey.
  2. like I said, im quite used to it now the tyre noise is probably the loudest on the motorways. usually take the ipod on longer journeys though. strange getting in the g/f's car. polo 9n fsi. you cant even hear the engine.
  3. There are 4 fuses on top of the battery. 1x10 amp 1x20amp 2x30amp on the sport it has 4 wires going into the box. on the 's' it has 1 appears to go into one of the 30amps. I've swapped the fuses over even though they looked fine. see what happens in the morning.
  4. ah ok style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> better be careful with it then. thats one of the reasons I wanted to find out how low it is. i didn't think the driveshaft was an issue untill you start going 80mm or lower. i'll do a search to find out how to mod it. just got a new angle grinder..
  5. one thing I dont undertand though is the fact the bottom of the car is so low to the ground, but there is a small gap between the tyres and arches. the driveshaft is pretty close to the chassis too so I may need to mod it at somepoint, im getting a slight knock when going over bumps but it seems to be coming from the driver side, i thought the driveshaft problem was on the passenger side?
  6. Thanks tigz, although if anything it is lower on the front. so possibly 55/55?
  7. would anyone hazzard a guess at how low it is? just having a conversation earlier today and I said it was probably around 50mm all round. but matey reckons closer to 80? on fk highsports, the rears are all the way down and the fronts have a bit to go. car stripped out with a cage. with about 11cm gap from the sills to the floor the other lupo, standard ride height is about 20cm on the front and 24cm's on the rear. whats the best way to work it out? becuase that would mean 90mm which is certainly doesnt look border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> plus the other lupo has comedy ride height, but the gap to the floor is smaller than standard as it has low profile tyres border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" />
  8. Yeah it's no fun now as it gets a bit more respect. although yesterday I had some wideboy in a mk5 golf gti pull up behind me on a dual carriageway, then try to overtake. I knew he was up for it and he was driving too close to the car for comfort and looked like a total geezer like someone from the glc.. I stuck my foot down and there was no way he was getting past. just outside the speedlimit he was inching forward but i dont really want to be speeding so i backed off. he would have had it anyway but happy it can still match that type of perfomance with the cage. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> noise isn't bad at all really, you get used to it. i do go a bit deaf after getting out of the car, but anything to quieten the voices is a bonus.
  9. do you know where the fueses are? The only ones I can see are on a diagram... 40amp fuses (orange) 1H0937530 but not sure where this is located? the ones on the battery I'm guessing are for the car as a whole?
  10. do you mean the fuse for the fan is not by the driverside lower dash fusebox? I guess I just read the fan symbol as the rad fan when it could have been the heater fan? I'll look up that part number and see what I find. thanks style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  11. I've checked the fan fuse. fuse 49 I think which looked ok. I'll try swapping it over later just incase. dont know if anyone could check should it be a 25amp or 20amp?
  12. Good thinking. Will check that as the fan just doesnt do anything. usually you can hear the fan kick in when stand still for 10 mins but it's not happening. I'm hoping it's not the thermostat. I wouldn't have a clue how to swap it over. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  13. Can anyone help? A few months ago the radiator fan stopped working on my 1.4s the blade had acturally come off the motor so when the fan kicked in all you heard was a knocking noise. not overheating at all. So I removed the fan and the car has been fine I gues not really getting hot enough to need the fan. A week or two ago I got stuck in traffice driving back from southampton and it started overheating which was understandable considering it didn't have a radiator fan, so I put the hot air blowers on and it returned to normal. I've not driven the car much between now and then but the one other time again it started heating up in traffic, but I was able to cool it down before it got to 110 degrees. So now i've swapped the radiator fan from my other lupo into this one to at least make sure it's all good. but the problem is the fan is not kicking in. the same thing happens in traffic starts heating up and the fan not running. I've checked the connection and it looks fine. again this fan was working in my other car and the old motor was running before i took it out. How should I start troubleshooting. considering I have an almost Identical motor I can swap bits over to test. Could it be whichever sensor it uses to tell the fan to switch on? and why would this have stopped working? Thanks. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  14. they may be style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  15. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Unfortunatly theres no way the cage will fit with a carpet and roof lining. even without the headlining. the soundproofing cardboard and glue needed to be scraped off to wedge the cage in. it's a very tight fit and bigger than the omp cages they sell at the moment. so depending on how hardcore you're going it may not have fit style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> It's just a trial fit at the moment. but totally wedged in. the cage needs stripping and re-painting and the padding will need redoing. I need to either put in another bar on the rear or remove the passenger side one. also the passenger side has a double door bar as it's a lhd cage. so still a bit of work to be done. Been getting thumbs up already by fellow vw drivers so it's all worth it style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  17. I'd get it rolling roaded somewhere else for comparision. although saying that. I have my sport rolling roaded at the same place. once was 122bhp @the fly, around 100 at the wheels and the second time 108@the fly and only 94 @ the wheels. the car hadn't lost any power as it was still running identical 1/4 mile times the weekend after both runs. another rolling road had it at 126bhp @ the fly. i dont really trust rolling road figures now style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  18. what were your results? and where did you get it rr'd? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  19. http://break.com/index/another_car_versus_metal_pole.html anyone got anymore? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  20. wasn't bad in cardiff. no scraping windscreens. lucky as I dont even have a demister or heater in the car at the moment. jacket when it's cold windows open when either a) it's warm style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> the windscreen steams up style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> think i'll fit it back in over the weekend. still 14 degrees when I got back home so not bad. and at least theres no sign of rain for another week or so style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

    Ooops

looking at the pic, how the hell did you not damage the bonnet or the door you lucky sod? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> and if it was a gti the sill would be damaged too. nice one though, always a good feeling when you get your car back style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  22. Small-ish update. Last week got the FK coilovers fitted. feels solid now when turning no light back end. although is it turning a bit too quickly but that may change when I get to play about with the ride height. I really need to get the rears down lower, they are as low as they go but the added weight of the cage and removing the rings should sort that out. I also got my omp steering wheel fitted, finally after it's been sitting around for a while. A few things removed or tidied up. The cage will be fitted very soon, maybe even this weekend! and I've got the lsd box to be fitted. all exciting stuff. I went to santapod again on sunday. perhaps for the last time in Lupiiin. if anything just to prove that I've not lost any power after the dissapointing rolling road result. First run I got a 15.9 with a set of shocks and springs in the boot so everything looked on track. once they were gone I got down to 15.7 but with 2.5 60ft times I couldn't get traction. lowered the tyre pressures but still couldn't grip. even spinning in third. it felt more powerfull and got my fastest terminal speed of 89mph. but on a dissapointing 16.0 run. kept lowering tyre pressures to 15psi and got it down to 15.6 but at 84mph. SO annoying if I'd been getting 2.2 60ft times as before it would have been 15.3 1/4 miles but just couldn't get the grip. maybe if it had more sensible wheels on it'd make a difference. I think it would have got the time down further if there were more runs but the track was closed for a long time and only 6 runs it wasn't going to happen. Cant see much point in taking it to santapod again as the cage will be fitted weighing it down. but with the lightweight seats and gti passenger door/ bonnet that will make up for the cage. so maybe with some 14" wheels and larger tyres it would get that 15.3 Still pleased though, as it's still pulling strongly. now on 123,000 miles border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> Car is very dirty at the moment but I really cant be ass to clean it. I've got some new red leads fitted and removed a few more things from the engine bay. border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> The interior has been tidied up, mostly the wiring. but I still need to do a lot of work here. As mentioned new steering wheel fitted but electric windows still need to be removed. I think I'll get rid of the passenger side first and stick a winder in there for now. Just not too keen on making holes for it. border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> May be the last trip to Santapod for Lupiiin, next year he'll spend more time at Castle combe and Llandow. if I get anything major done to the engine to improve power I'll take him back, but I'll have another car to play with on the strip next year border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" />
  23. the pop out mechinism can rust. seen this on a few loops
  24. I was just kidding. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I wouldn't worry too much about it. both of my lupo's under read. the sport running 195/45/15's shows around 29mph when it's 30 on the clocks with the tom tom and the 1.4 s running 195/45/14's show 26mph at 30 on the clocks. it does seem a bit further out than normal but i dont think it's too bad.
