A wash would have shown things in a better light.

    Shame it is dead.

Quite. What happened in the six years from being sold on here is beyond me. I just hope this thread makes people aware of these cars (in the same wa the press car thread has). To my knowledge it was only 1 of 2 with yellow interiors and one of possibly one in SDi form.

The yellow SDI is now scrap as of today, I saved the whole interior & bootlid. It had been sat on someones driveway for a few years and was very rotten.

thank you for the update. Shame i went that way due to the rarity of the car.

  3. Generally in the UK. If both airbags go off it generally writes the car off in the UK. With the age of the lupo this is 100% the case now.

As Mk2 says it can be fixed. Your best bet may be is to get a donor 1.4 lupo and swap the bits over (if you can find one).

Sorry technology not my thing, iIf you search the parking there is a Lupo for sale uk car 15k

Yes I have seen that and it about 3/4k over valued. It was advertised at 10k previously. Also no optional extras. The others that are for sale at the 10k mark are jap imports or a y reg with 70k (neither worth what they are asking)

The concerning thing for me is VW are rapidly making GTi-specific parts obsolete.  My parts guy was saying it's the norm now for parts to be kept in circulation for 7-10 year old vehicles, but they don't really care about the relics any more (and fair enough to them, the demand will be non-existent!).  I had priced up a brand new red cam carrier only 2/3 years ago for £450, but now all out of stock in UK and Germany as they auctioned them all off.  Same story for cylinder heads and very specific LH thread bolts for holding camshafts, and even certain cam-alignment tools (you can guess I'm doing a cat cams upgrade ;)).  Funnily after keeping my eyes peeled on eBay for long enough, I found the red cam carrier floating about in Germany and paid £160 delivered - brand new, still in VW's packaging.  Xenon headlights are another worry for me - that's why I have an emergency second pair which I managed to get again from waiting long enough from eBay for about £150 for the pair.  Although Clayton Jones has done an LED conversion which takes some of the ballast complexity out of the equation, and I'll end up going down that way too I think!  Still there's levelling motors to contend with as my current lamps are not too great in that area, either!  And don't get me started on aluminium doors, wings and bonnet 😢

This is an issue for sure. Some have been moved over to hertiage where as other parts have not. Example. I can buy a front bumper (lower and upper) and grill. But yet i cannot buy the washer covers, lower covers or centre badge bits.

I am tempted to buy a few more bits and put them away like yourself and i don't blame you either.

  6. To update on the agreed value part.

Option 1 turned out to be the easiest option by a long distance. Adrian Flux where happy to put the agreed value and what i wanted. Once i used there valuation service (for £15) they sent off several photos to hagerty and you can add information on what you spent on the car (eg paintwork etc, i did not include regular service stuff as that should be standard fare). and they came back with the same as the agreed value. Overall very happy about this.

I was passionately against the Fox for many years but my sister has a 1.4l urban and I’m completely converted. It is a car built to a budget and has none of the charm of the Loop, but it is solid and well designed inside for practicality. The prices dealers are asking for a Fox are even worse!

The Lupo GTI deserves to be a prized classic one day, as easy and fun to drive as my UP GTI is it is very much like the Fox in that it has been built to a very tight budget.

The Lupo GTi already kind of is going that way. It was not that long ago you could pick up a low mileage example for around £7000 (2/3 years ago). No chance now. Even now they are starting around the 3k mark for ones with Mileage etc.

Nice 05 plate anthracite GTI with heated leather interior in Finchley spotted (twice) at the weekend, a few cars down from a silver Up! GTI.

Thats a very rare car. There was only two made in 2005 in Anthracite. The other one was on Copart VERY recently.

I still see Lupos out in the wild in Brighton and on my travels, can't remember the last time I saw a Mk 1 Arosa though, and even the mk2 is few and far between. Haven't seen another GTI for years! That said my GTI has sat for most of the past year, I charged the battery up in the summer and used it for about a week and then (after another battery charge) took it to north London the other weekend to blow away the cobwebs. And to it's credit, after a few choppy miles to clear the system it didn't skip a beat and I'm tempted to take it again when I'm back up in a week or so - great for a car that'll be 20 this year!

The issue is that dealers are trying to charge £1500 for basic examples complete with dents, and daring to call that a bargain, when the reality is a 10 year old 107 or Ka will cost you not much more, be in a significantly lower tax bracket, and cheaper to run.

With regards to the dealers charging £1500. I guess the reason for that is due to the fox being not that great..... probably.

L3 UPO is on a moon silver GTI, chassis 6EZ2W007480, came from Stoke VW Van centre, registered 18-4-2002. It also suggests this reg is still on this vehicle via the DVLA and is currently on SORN.

Y921 DWL is a Fantasia Green 1.4 TDI Sport, chassis 6XZ1W071968, VW Demonstrator Services, registered 5-3-2001. It is currently due tax and an MOT as of this month

OU51 BVA is a Moon Silver GTI, chassis 6EZ2W002034, VW Demonstrator Service, registered 7-9-2001, vehicle details not on DVLA, not been taxed since August 2018 and no tax data is available, so I'd presume it's been scrapped?

OU51 CKO is a Taffeta Green 1.4 TDI Sport, chassis 6XZ2B002920, VW Demonstrator services, registered 12-9-2001. Taxed and MOT'd until July 2022.

OU51 CSO is a Taffeta Green 1.4 TDI Sport, chassis 6XZ2B037298, VW Demonstrator Service, registered 7-1-2002. Taxed until May, MOT'd until March.

OU51 DHL is a Reflex Silver 1.4TDI Sport, chassis 6XZ2B004613, VW Demonstrator Service, registered 31-10-2001. Currently SORN'd and untaxed since 2013

OU51 DHM is a Jazz Blue 1.4 TDI Sport, chassis 6XZ2B002850, VW Demonstrator Service, registered 22-10-2001. Not been MOT'd since November 2019 and no tax data, possibly scrapped?

OU51 DRZ is a Fantasia Green 1.4S, chassis 6XZ2B014884, VW Demonstrator Service, registered 5-11-2001. Not been MOT'd since November 2017, no tax data, possibly scrapped?

OY02 YXU is a Yellow 1.7 SDI E, chassis 6XZ2B058352, VW Demonstrator Service, registered 1-7-2002. Not been MOT'd since September 2017 and no tax data, possibly scrapped.

L3UPO - possible that was changed. I think that plate owned by Clairyfariy (i think)

So only 2 or 3 still running. Shame.

More than that around. I recon around 30 ex press cars are around. Some are SORN'd including a couple of the famous ones.

Imagine having 3 people in the back on that triple bench seat. The rear suspension would have bottomed out before even setting off. Ouch! Unless they had upgraded the rear springs and shocks?

With two in the back in any of my Lupos, it runs on the bump stops (now replaced with Passat types=stronger).

Quite a few of the DBW press cars had the three seater benches. 61-65 where. Some cars did have it fitted as an option. Including the Gti no less.

  11. Hi all

As some of you are aware. I wrote the original press car thread way back in 2017. Since then I have continued researching and subsequently. I have found a lot more cars. Some of which I only have details of the registration plate/a picture of when they were subsequently sold.

    Link -

So I have opened this thread up creating the missing press cars thread. This is where a list will be provided of cars I am looking for information for.

Known press cars but on private plates – these are cars all used private plates or had plates blanked out in the case of the Max Power Car

    1999 - L3UPO (Blue 1.4s Automatic) – see theoretical press cars

    1999 - L3UPO (Green Lupo Sport)

1999 - L5UPO (Yellow Lupo Sport) we have a thread on clublupo in which yellowsport may of owned this. All I need is a number plate

    1999 - T6UPO (Green 1.4s)

    2000 - L2UPO (Green 1.4s)

    2000 - L4UPO (Green 1.4 Tdi, also blue 1.4 Tdi)

    2000 - L6UPO (Blue 1.4 Tdi)

    2001 - L2UPO (Red Gti) – could be photoshopped?

    2001 - L2UPO (Black Gti)

    2001 - L4UPO (Silver Gti)

    2001 - L6UPO (Red Gti)

2001 - Max Power Lupo Gti

Motor Show Cars – I do have a couple of pics of motor show cars from 1999 Earls Court. But I would like some more if possible. Tough challenge I know

Theoretical press cars - The car listed below has had its plate swapped. What is its current registration? If I am correct this car could be L3UPO blue automatic. Currently the plate was on an Audi

    1999 - T66DBW

Known press cars but no article/picture exists – this information I was provided via contact from Vw (i must add that this database only goes back as far as 2001, anything pre 2001 is a bit of a guess). A lot of the cars listed below have no photos or articles. I have been lucky in finding a couple of the cars. Of which I will provide any information I know.

    2000 - X265XFC – picture exists. Was on Ebay in June 2020

2001 - Y916DWL – picture exists, was on gumtree circa 2018, poor image

    2001 - Y921DWL

2001 - OU51BKD – pictures exists, but its later colour of white (various sources). Need a pic in black.

    2001 - OU51BSX – picture exists. Was on Facebook Marketplace Dec 2021

    2001 - OU51BVA

    2001 - OU51CKO

2001 - OU51CNO – pictures exists. Was a member on a Facebook lupo group. Need a better pic in its original colour. Now in Laser Blue.

    2001 - OU51CSO

    2001 - OU51DHL

    2001 - OU51DHM

    2001 - OU51DRZ

    2001 - OW51LCZ - picture exists. Was a member on a Facebook lupo group.

    2002 - OY02YXU

  12. A friend of mine has a lupo sport and was using it daily up until recently when the gearbox went. If anyone knows where to get a Vw etb gearbox he would like to fix it.

In London with ulez the lupos where on the cusp. So earlier ones are not compliant but later ones are. One definitely got scrapped because of that and thsy did offer it for sale but no takers.

Also with some parts being not available  (even on hertiage) that may also be a factor too

Take as many pics as you can inc grubby stuff and file it with your docs. If anything ever happens you just collect current advert prices and show them the market value. If they don’t agree then tell them to keep the money but replace the car and deliver one to your doorstep exactly like your photos described yours. That’ll make them realise

They would have fun with that for sure. So 2005 is the 2nd rarest in year to 2000. 2nd my car has a sunroof, from what i gather there is only 6 around (1 Red, 1 Black in Jersey i think, and 4 silver of which are all differing spec). With point 2 they would not do the agreed value unless i got valued. Hence why i started this thread. I ended up going option 1 in the end.  The providor i was with gave me a name of someone they used 3 years ago......so it is likely they might not be around.
