The Whiteline rear ARB makes a huge difference, I've got mine set on medium and the handling is so much better! In my top 3 mods to do to a GTI (280mm brakes and coilies)

    KW V1s not stupidly low

280mm Brembo Max front discs,  MOTUL DOT 5.1 Fluid and Stainless braided hoses: Brembo OEM replacement on rear, Tarox Strada pads all round.

Whiteline Rear ARB on middle setting

    17mm spacers on rear

Vrdestein Sportrac 5 all round; or they will be when I get my wheels refurbed and a new pair up front

...eats up the Scottish Roads (and English) just fine 👍🏽

A 50% increase in price since 2010, could it be any or all of the following:

    • inflation
    • Brexit devaluation of £
    • VW needing to paying for litigation losses (that is everywhere else but UK) due to diesel gate
    • VW knowing you are stuck, where else are you going to find these new

I think in future, I will grab any I see in a scrap yard  - they are the same across the range?

Pretty sure I paid around £80 the first time.

Spoiler was about £200 iirc, then paint 🤕

Originally the GTI were alloy, but only plastic available now (and back in 2010), so yes all the same across the range.

  3. I’d definitely think twice about removing the side strips and if you do be careful..

Lupos are getting old now, so you may find the you will damage the underlying clear coat or that there has been paint applied at some previous time in its life and you’ll end up with paint edges.

If you can live with them, the strips will help protect her from car park dings. Just get some good cleaning and black trim protection.

and carrying on from @weslangdon’s thread, the best bit of advice I got from my Royal Marine’s driving instructor back in 1981:

“treat every other road user as an idiot, never assume the other road user is going to do what they are signalling to do and expect\be prepared for  the unexpected. Oh and treat yourself as an idiot too!”

  4. My back box has a small hole in it. Sounds good at full tilt 👍🏽

Got filled to pass the last two MOTs, but it popped out after a month or two.

Ive got a brand new VW rear section to go on, but want to leave it as long as possible to fit.

    Thanks for the comments @Silver!

Do you mind me asking where you sourced your spacers? I've heard the rears can require a little chamfer extension but if I can find some that don't require that even better.

Now you've got me pricing up more bits 😁

I bought direct from H&R if I remember correctly, but  they don’t list them now.

alloy bolt on, no need for the rings as they are a perfect match.

  6. @dougie1142I ran 20 mm each side on the rear for a while and as said it scrubbed occasionally. However I am paying for that scrubbing now as it cut the edge of paint on the arch lip and the weather got in.

Dropped to 17mm and no rubbing.

KW v1s, Whiteline rear arb along with the wider rear and it a grippy little thing.

...great for driving on the Scottish roads 👍🏽
