Owen33
My handbrake has always been bad but now it just does nothing. Had a few looks at the calipers and the handbrake level has to be levered/pushed back. Is there suppose to be some kinda spring on them to pull them back to stop binding? i know that i could do with some new handbrake cables but even with them removed the caliper does move to freely. Had new disks and pads about 1k miles ago and made no difference.
JoeA
Not entirely sure, but im sure you may have to 'wind' them back in. Edited October 25, 2012 by joeadamou
grazo22
sounds like the self adjusters on the hand brake aren't working. If you pump the brake and then put your hand brake on it should work with less clicks.Mine seems to vary depending on how hard I've been braking before I put the HB on. Don't adjust it under the lever as thats just bad.The adjusters are on the rear caliper where the cable comes out. Its the same kind of adjustment as the throttle cable if my memory serves me right. Owen33
They bind on, and after numerous times of retracting lever on caliper to max and then adjust the cable to match it then ends up going all the way back down to the bottom, where again it binds. Normally i would just go out and have a good look at them but i don't have a jack anymore and cant do much on the ramps
grazo22
sounds like the cables aren't fully releasing. Maybe wip the calipers apart, loads of red grease and a couple of new cables.
Owen33
ahh i thought i wrote it in, they caliper levers stick even with the cables unhooked which is about all i can do with the ramps :/
grazo22
calipers off a full rebuild making sure all surfaces are clean and have loads of rubber grease on. Sometimes it's the only way
