Hi Guys,

New to this so bare with me. I bought a new CD Player for my 1.0L MK1 Arosa last week and am now having trouble with connection to my radio stations. If I turn on Radio 1 it keeps cutting out and coming back but its fine on Capital. On medium wave I just get diabolical reception (only tried TalkSport). Any clue on what I can do?

Cheers if you help.

Hi there, this a common problem. If you look further down the forum posts you will see a post called "no reception"

This tells you all about the problem and how to fix it in detail. Its a very good post.

In short you will need to buy a signal filter which amplifies the signal so you can get good reception. It goes between the ariel lead and the back of the stereo unit and the wire connects to the electric ariel ouput from the unit to power it up.

Halfords do this for £15 but i got one from e bay brand new delivered at £12 bearing in mind there was £4 postage so a good deal without you having to leave the house to get it and still cheaper than halfords. The seller is called 'lowcostcaraudio'

On another separate issue, if the unit you have bought is a sony unit, then you will have to reverse the main positive and the ignition supply as they are back to front on the sony units. This is indicated by you losing all your saved radio staions when you turn the ignition off.

You can't count... £12 + £4 = £16

As others have stated this problem and the various possible causes are more fully discussed in another thread called 'No reception'. But, before you get into anything more complicated have a look through the manual for your new CD/Radio unit and see if there's a setting in the menus called 'Antenna power enable' or 'Antenna power on/off' or something similar - if there is, it's probably set to OFF. Try turning it ON and see if that fixes your problem.
