Fyfester
That description is a little bit crap! Did you ask the tester what was wrong? He said when braking the whole steering rack (or colum) moves.
Defcon5
What? Wouldnt your entire suspension system have to be knackered for that to happen? Your hubs would have to roll forwards, pulling the track rods to make the steering rack move
chris c
where are you as someone local might be able to check it out for you possibly the wishbone bushes if they are moving on braking
Defcon5
where are you as someone local might be able to check it out for you possibly the wishbone bushes if they are moving on braking But then they would have failed it due to excessive movement on the bushes. How are they even able to look at the rack when its on the brake tester?

And the clear cap covering the yellow bit at the bulkhead side? Also it looks the vertical (ish) part of the brake pedal sits very close to the steering rod? Cover/ sleeveCheers
chris c
on the collum there is a bracket that slides over the 2 and a half inch long bolt there should be a plastic roller under it on the actual bolt also press the pedal and look for what it does

Fyfester
it should go through the brake and clutch possibly the accelerator I'm now officially lost!Sorry for being simple mate and I do appreciate the help and advice. What do these bolts do? (the 1's you are talking about) are the bolting the pedals to something? Are they bolting thru a sleeve to pivot? And where should I look for them? If I had my forehead ( just to orient me) on the brake pedal where would these bolts be? Up or forward?Cheers
chris c
the bolt acts as the actual pivot arm that the pedals pivot on if you slide your hand up the clutch pedal near the top you will feel the end of the bolt best picture i can find im affraid you can see the end of the bolt at the bottom http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL830/3673731/16733541/258090683.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php%3Fautomodule%3Dblog%26blogid%3D81%26&usg=__aAtCqeeMnGUXkY7nohYoooVwuFg=&h=400&w=533&sz=40&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=rUe4OSmYVyRqwM:&tbnh=123&tbnw=149&ei=KWqnTfXEPIfQsgadpIiXCA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvw%2Bpolo%2Bpedal%2Bbox%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1020%26bih%3D544%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=265&vpy=70&dur=1279&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=137&ty=113&oei=zmmnTaz7L4aR4Qb_8v2NCg&page=1&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0im off for the weekend now but i hope you get it sorted
matt~black
I'd take it another mot station and when it gets worse it'll become easier to find the problem
