Microscan AN550 Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser

Recommended Posts

Anyone know anything about the above product?

Have been offered this fitted by an insurance company for £200. I've had a look through google and equivalent alarms from other manufacturers such as Clifford and Toad are double the price

I'm always a bit suspicious of something so cheap though it wouldn't have cat 1 thatcham approval for no reason.......

Anyone any experience of Microscan alarms?

As far as Im aware, the CAT1 test is very spesific.

My G5 Clifford hasnt passed the CAT1 test as it was designed for the American market in mind. Although the Imobiliser is the most secure in the Clifford range, an insurance company dont class it as being up to there "standard"

To be CAT1 tested it doesnt mean that it is any good, it just has to have the features to pass the CAT1 test.

Most manufactors design there systems around this test.

Heres the features.

AN550 Thatcham Cat.1 Approved Alarm Features Include

2 Circuit Immobiliser.

Ultrasonic Sensors.

2 Remote Transmitters.

Battery `Back-up` Siren.

Alarm Auto Arming.

Auto `Re-arm`.

Touch Key Override.

Pin Code Override.

Security Housing.

Door Open Warning*.

Central Looking from Remote Control*.

Window Closing Facility**.

Silent Arm/Disarm*.

Alarm 'Panic' Facility.

Lock On Ignition.

Interior Light Delay**.

Fitting instrutions here

They say expect to take `4-5` hours to fit, and they sell for £169.99 so the £30 there charging you is pretty good.

Sorry couldnt be more specific, put a few posts around, to see if anyone has had any experiance of them.

If your just wanting it to lower your insurance then it looks like a good buy, but if your after the protection of a second Alarm and imobilser (The standard VW is CAT2) then the G5 can be fitted for £230 but isnt Cat tested.
