Is my key remote fubar?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, would be grateful for help on this if possible...

Got a 2002 Lupo Sport and the remote central locking stopped working a couple of days ago.

When you press the 'lock' or 'unlock' button on the key the red light flashes about once a second, i'm pretty sure this used to be constantly illuminated before but i may be wrong??

The car will lock and unlock fine with the key in the door.

I've tried replacing the battery but no change, also tried various methods of re-coding the remote locking part of the key but without success :(

The owners manual states that keys may become out of sync with the car if the button is repeatedly pressed when out of range, and describes a process of re=syncing them by doing the following:

Press the unlock button

Within 1 minute put the key in the door and lock or unlock the car manually.

Can't get it to work.

Is my remote part dead?

Cheers

Rob

You're re-syncing the remote the wrong way. The owners manual actually tells you completely the wrong way of doing it.

Do you have two keys? or just one?

Just one with the remote locking buttons, the spare is just a plain key.

Tried yet again to re-snyc the remote key and no joy.

I'm now thinking my 'convenience unit' is k-nack'd as when i plug in a fault code reader it will read all areas of the car apart from the 'remote locking' area where it tries then says 'LINK ERROR'.

Does anyone know if i can find the unit under my dash and find a 2nd hand unit with the same VW part number will i be able to get it up and running? Will i have to use VAG-COM to set up the replacement unit?

Cheers
