Help - 1.0 Arosa losing power up hills

Recommended Posts

Hi people...

i really need some expert advice, my arosa S (1.0 MPi 2003) is having problems and i NEED to get it sorted asap because im taking a test in it at the end of the month.

The emission light comes on and sometimes flashes, also i occassionally get the EPC light on too. It seems to drive fine on short journeys but then it starts to struggle (i think this only happens on a long journey) , the engine sounds very laboured and loses a lot of power when travelling uphill, i've had to drop right down to first to keep it going. The idle is normal, around 900 rpm but the exhaust and engine noise is best described as a steam train and the engine is rocking violently as it ticks over! also the throttle seems to stick, like the fuel isnt getting through then suddenly it does...

i took it to a local garage, at first the diagnostics suggested coolant temp sensor, i changed it but that made no difference. then they told me it needed a new coil pack, so i had this done on monday. its been fine all week until a long drive today (40 mins)and the problem is back.

the odd thing is, last time it did it, i filled up with fuel and it temporarily cured the problem. but today the problem is back again and its on half a tank :-s so maybe thats just a coincidence??

any suggestions??

many thanks... jenny

change your spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter if its not been done in the last year/ 10,000 miles.

Could make a difference, if not its good maintence of your car and should be done anyways.
