well not really, i took it into the garage today next door to use for them to clean the throttle body for me, they took it off but the intake manifold was black inside so he said we will put it all together and put some carb cleaner through it, so we did, everything was going fine until he got abit carried away and put alittle to much though and it misfired and cut out, i started it up again reved it to clear the crap out, everything was fine all running nice, until i looked at the dash and saw the engine warning light on,

Its still on but im thinking it came on because of the misfire we had, is this right?

Probably engine speed sensor warning - I got that when I cleaned out the throttle body and caused it to stall accidentally. Alternatively could be a misfire warning, but that usually takes a few misfires to trigger.

The light may go out in a few days, but the fault code will remain until cleared by VW or a VAG tool.

Yeah, the Southern one on the 12th December, possibly the Sheffield meet (but less than 50% likely at this point) and the Rolling Road day in Feb, although I imagine that's too long to wait smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If you have a VW specialist nearby, it's worth asking them - it's literally a 5 second job, and if they were decent I'd hope they'd do it for free, if you explained that you knew why it came on, and just wanted it clearing.

didnt screw it down tight enough to start with so it choked - which sounds like you problem. it needs to be really tight to seal properly.

then second time when it was on really tight i forgot to plug it in, so the light came on, stuck in safe mode and i was clueless - ****ting myself. then a realised my mistake!

Nah, it adjusts itself over time, so it'll have corrected itself now.

The issue is if it's very dirty and suddenly becomes very clean, the ECU puts the TB into the position it used to have to be to idle at 900rpm, finds itself overrevving (because more air gets in due to it being degunked), panics and slams the TB closed, and stalls.
