Petrol in North America

I spent the summer in Canada - at the petrol station the regular was rated as "87" and premium was about "92" iirc.

Just wondering if this is the same octane rating (RON) as we have in the UK or if it is different for some reason?

If it is the same, are cars mapped differently in different countries?

In this country (and Europe) we have 95RON as standard, you can get 97, 99 and even 100+. Cars are mapped differently for USA and Europe yeah.

The lower rating still doesn't explain why we pay about 3x more for petrol here though!! Just shows you how much tax the gov't puts on it, thieving ****s.
