It's kinda spluttering between 1000 rpm and 2000 rpm but anything above that it is fine. Has anyone any ideas what it could be? Im not sure if there has been a thread on here before on this?I have a K&N filter on, could it be dirty or just crap when it's cold? tdwindustries Posted October 6, 2005 Report Share Posted October 6, 2005 Also check the throttle body is nice and clean and not sticky - low revs means it only opens a little bit which if its gunked up a little will cause the problem you have described.HT leads will be worse (if they are gone/going) under load at 1-2000 rpm but would also give the odd blip and oddness at all revs, not just lower. It's only just happened in last 3 days so I'm not putting it down to the GTI 'quirk and niggles as standard.' Is carb cleaner still the best thing for it? Ah well, if replacement HT leads don't cure my "jumping" problem I'll give this a whirl. thehammer Posted October 11, 2005 Author Report Share Posted October 11, 2005 UPDATE:Took my car into a specialized electronics/engine garage.They did emmissions reading and Engine management.Found out it was a missfire in cylinder 3.But the guy said there equipment couldnt pin point whther it was the sparks, HT lead for cylinder 3, coil or distributor.Knew I should have gone with a mobile tester who would have had a fancy laptop!I had to suggest them change plugs 2 and 3 round and then re-test that way we could see if the problems changed cylinders and if it didn't it wouldn't be the plug. ( he went' oh yeah thats a good idea???? - doh!!!!) He popped my engine cover on and took it for a test drive , then I did , and the jerkyness had gone. So really he's not done anything to it, I should probably have done all that but I know for the future. They dont charge for a second test so might just see if it has been fixed. I have already changed the HT leads which hasn't worked, when I changed them I also checked my airbox - which was free from any large leaves. I think I spotted the throttle body too - is it far right inside the airbox? and the 'butterfly' bit being the round flappy thing? It wasn't sparkling clean when I took a look - but it wasn't exactly dirty either . . . . if I do clean it which bit do I need to clean - the round flappy bit? or something else? and is it easy to remove it fully (a la tdwindustries) to clean? tdwindustries Posted October 13, 2005 Report Share Posted October 13, 2005 I wouldnt speculate any more on this - if you have tried all above then get it on VAG COM or similar and see what it throws up - these are also symptons of a dodgy sensor somewhere. Has it put any lights on the dash?To clean the TB you just whip off the airbox, get someone in the car to rev it up and spray some carb cleaner into the TB whilst its moving, a few times. Cliveski Posted October 13, 2005 Report Share Posted October 13, 2005 I got some carb cleaner and gave the throttle body a clean - it was actually 'quite' dirty as the carb cleaner really worked wonders - I could eat of it now (if only the carb cleaner wasn't so toxic).
