Rocker cover painting

Hello.

Sorry for two posts but makes it far easier to split the topics.

so i wanted to paint my rocker cover the other day but realised that it is actually a cam carrier i.e the cams are in the heads so therefore you cant remove it without removing the cam belts etc and thus needing to do the timing (not something i trust myself with, scares the hell out of me) ((typical vw making things difficult than they need to be)) but i still want to paint it, so is there a way i can leave it on and still do a good job?? any tips/advice?? has any one done it before. or any other suggestions. my worries were prepping it while it was on the car etc

Many thanks

james

Not that I'd paint my rocker cover at all (engine cover at a push), there's no reason you couldn't prep on the car. Patience would be the key, and masking literally every visible surface. Although I doubt overspray would survive very long anyway.
