I don't have either a Sport or a TDI, but would definitely be interested in this!

On a GTI it is the sidelight and full beam, it's in addition to the Xenon full beam. If the main headlights are off and you flash someone, they will light up and not the main headlight, but they also come on with the xenon on high beam when the xenon is switched on.

Hi Tig I'm a bit of a funny fish. I've been involved in the crash repair business for a long time and having repaired very many repairable motors over the years and being of an engineering background, I believe once you get your head sorted that these type of projects are 1. going to cost decent money, and time to do it right and 2. might never be worth what you put into them. But once you start with that frame of mind you are well on the way. Because my airbag business takes me in and out of breakers yards a lot of the time, I see opportunities screaming at me everywhere. The original plan was an engine out of a 1.4 GT Mk IV Golf, which you can squeeze 170 brake out of. I have to drive automatic having lost the use of one of my arms - not the dominant one - a while back. Everything else has been done, DSG hasn't until lately - that's what appeals to me. BTW I have already built a fully automatic air-cooled beetle (1302LS) with VW components - VW never made one.
Regards the set off delay issue in your caddy, could it be mapped out? Or is it mechatronics thing within the box? I deal with a guy called Chris (Pinnochio) Hughes of Total Tuning in Pontypridd, Wales who's the best as regards vehicle intelligence. If his number is any good to you let me know. I've a Passat 2.0 TDi DSG which is wicked regarding torque on take off. Once I've tidied up my Mk II van I hope it's even better. I also have a 2.0 tsfi engine and DSG box stashed ......Lupo? Na it would be a pig I think. And while I'm here I've also got an 03 Inca in hiding with a 1.9 Octavia VRS engine tdi and dsg set up lurking around the shed with its eye on the little van but that's an other cash grabber on hold.
If you're going down the twin-charger route, get one from a Mk5 golf, not a Mk6. The Mk5 version has stronger pistons and block, the Mk6 version tends to break the top of the piston off due to the stresses of always being on boost and VW cheapness.

Could also be the MAP sensor on the end of the inlet manifold, quite prone to becoming dirty over the years. Would also explain the 'air flow' fault?

I saw this parked up in Reigate near where I live on Saturday! Was shocked to see an Anthracite Grey GTI in the flesh, I thought I was dreaming!

Driver's side is still available from VW, passenger side is obsolete

The fuel pump will make a noise when you first open the driver's door, as it's the pump priming. It sounds like something getting hot and failing after a while, so could be a relay on it's way out

Not all rear axles are the same on Lupo's
6X0 500 047 is for models without rear anti-roll bar (PR code OBA)
6X0 500 047 A is for models with rear anti-roll bar (PR code OBB)
6E0 500 047 is a GTI rear axle

May be worth taking to a friendly garage and seeing if they have an MOT ramp with a headlamp aim machine, they can set them correctly

Have to say I prefer the Bathursts on the Lupo GTI.
I think they're the best wheels on a GTI as well!

I run 205/40 r17 Uniroyal Rainsport 5s on mine, a massive improvement on the crap Goodyears
-
There are a couple of people on eBay who 3d print these now
-
Most people have swapped to a 195/45 R15, I did many years ago due to lack of choice with the OE size. I can highly recommend Uniroyal Rainsport, they are by far the best tyre I've ever fitted to my gti

Cambridge edition by look of it. Are your rear lights tinted?
It's an SE in the UK, but it is quite a rare car. Nice find!

If the battery on mine goes flat, then when I get it started again, the Xenons flicker as the battery is being charged by the alternator, then as soon as it has enough charge, they stop flickering.

If yours is a 16V engine, VW used the silicon sealant for the camshaft housing from the factory, so you won't fit a rubber gasket that fits anywhere!
VW part number for the sealant is D 188 003 A1

I recently changed the crank sensor on my GTI, was a pain in the ass to do. Mine was fine until it warmed up, then it would jump, like it had a massive misfire, then drive with about half the power it should have. When it first did it, I turned it off then on again and it was fine, but after a week or so, it brought the EPC light on. I've now fitted a new sensor and all is well again!
GTI battery mounting - info needed!

The part number for that is printed on the part! 6X0 422 163 A, so they have put the wrong image up!
