  1. yes, BUT; the wheels should be stiff enough since softer wheels will have very negative effects on the handling. this does actually make a real difference as the different designs do actually have entirely different rigidnesses and there is a ton of crap on the market. apparently, the best compromise between the price and the weight seems to be the ATS DTC Superlights, very commonly used wheel on track day - and race cars.
  2. the h&r coilies are actually slightly better then the kw´s since they have upside-down shocks and therefore lower the unsprung mass. they also don´t cost a lot more then the kw´s. definitely the right choice for a track car. what exactly is a track/show car?? when your driving on the ring, you dont wanna have to worry about your custom paintjob, your painted underbody, your chrome rims and what not.

    Lupo FSI

lets put some things right about 3L and fsi. the fsi is pretty much the same car as the 3L. same alu wings, same front bumper (except other grille), doors from alu and the same weired shaped boot-lid. same straight side-skirts. i think it came with the same 14" magnesium wheels. only real difference is the rear bumper, the fsi has a normal lupo bumper, the 3l has that kind of mud-flap-like design, similar to the gti. interiour-wise both 3L and fsi have the golf mk3 seat consoles (whereas all other lupos have the mk4 consoles), the light-weight seats. i think the fsi has the standart steering wheel though, the 3L has that minimalistic magnesium wheel. as RAB said, it has vw´s first mass-production fsi engine, 1400cc. it comes (as the 3L) with many lightweight parts, such as pretty much the entire front axle from alu. both cars need other coilies than normal lupos and there is no after-market anti-rollbar for them. the fsi has disc-brakes in the rear, the 3L some lightweight drums. the biggest misery about both fsi and 3l is the gearbox. no manual versions sold at all. unfortunately, its neither a normal automatic gearbox with torque-converter, nor the dsg high-tech stuff. its some automated manual box, pretty much the same bullshit as in the mk1 smart. it takes ages for shifting, this is what makes it so slow and unsporty to drive. the 3L has a switch for two modes, one for saving gas and one for beeing a bit quicker. it turns the boost up and down, depending on the mode. on efficiency mode, it turns off the engine as soon as the car stops (like hte new bmw´s. except there is no clutch, to tell the car to turn back on ). also, the actuator of that gearbox brakes pretty much regularly and isnt cheap. converting either car to a standart gearbox is mechanically possible of course, but its a hell lot of work to get the electrical side working, you must do major reprogramming to the entire can-bus system. AFAIK, no one has gone through that before. it would be well worth it though in my eyes, the fsi engine has quite a lot of power and the car is lighter than the gti. plus its really good on gas. ok, thats enough info for now, i think
  4. the cup version and the btc are two seperat, totally different cars. the btc´s are quite tweaked out whereas the cup cars are pretty much standart gti´s with coilovers, oz´s, bucket, cage, fire ext. and such stuff. enginewise its all stock gti.
  5. thanks everyone. i was reading on here for some time but the registration didnt work with my old *.de email address. ive always liked the gti look best and most people on the road dont see the difference anyways so its still beeing underestimated a lot. i just always hated the rear wheel arch of the normal lupo. if there was a way to solve that id probably go for the 3l/fsi bumpers. but my lupo is pretty busted up anyways so ill probably have the gti side panels and sills welded in in good ole poland they can also paint the whole thing right away... i was already thinking about polishing the hood but i didnt bother because its too much hassle making and keeping it shiny, and it probably wouldnt even look that good on a lupo. also, id be likely to get trouble with the cops sooner or later. cars are not really allowed to be reflecting or mirroring that much light over here (we have too many fcking rules about everything ...) but this project is gonna take a while, i got a hell lot to do with uni and my job. but im on it i just glued in a new windscreen on thursday because the old one was cracked and the polizei dont like that too much was shitty work though, no fun involved in that at all.
  6. hi everyone, im max from berlin germany, im currently studying, going for bachelor/master of automative engineering. my everyday ride is a black one-litre lupo since a couple years now. first mods worth mentioning were adjustable kw v2 coilovers, selfmade wishbone strut, gti-anti-rollbar, 15x7" alus and raid silberpfeil steering wheel. end of last year a bought a damaged gti which had rolled over its roof. now im converting my loop to gti as much as possible. im planning to fit everything, that my cars doesnt have yet; engine, axles, brakes (plus g60 discs and braided lines), a/c, power windows, speedo of course, and the fabulous glove box to make a long story short, everything i can take out the gti. so far a have fitted the xenons, the front seats, the wipers and the hatch. the silver bonnet a had since a year or so, its alu from the 3L (someone traded with my so he could do some easy welding to my stell bonnet). here its sitting on its winter wheels... interior sweet xenons im planning to go for complete original gti looks with some minor changes. biggest challenge will be welding in new side panels. finally, it will be painted in some nice colour - i just cant decide for one yet i hope to get this project done within this year.
