  1. First scratch on this car! It's small, and God knows what (or who) caused it, but it does look deep. Also, best way to eradicate it? Will polishing it with Mer get rid of it?
  2. Hmmmm, maybe.......... It might be a dull read, mind. eg Reversing out of my yard this morning, I caught the (foolish) neighbour's full wheelie bin on my passenger side and dragged it along a bit. Should have heard me cursing the silly sod! He'd left it so it was partially blocking my drive. Fortunately, can't see any damage. I think I was lucky. Feckin' eejit, lol.
  3. Well, 700 miles up, not much to report. Nothing has failed, anyway. Easy car to wash! Not many awkward bits. Been driving carefully, mainly due to the seemingly endless fuel price hikes. Loads of other Foxes about around here, and the novelty of waving at them has worn off now, lol.
  4. Hello, edders. I'm from just over the border in County Durham.
  5. You don't say which car you own, but on my Fox, the tyre pressures are detailed inside the petrol filler cap.
  6. Don't knock the Fox! Besides, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?
  7. Are those microfibre towels from Poundland alright for drying a car? I bought one, but I haven't used it yet, lol. I know they're about £10 or something in Halfords, and I'm just wondering if these £1 ones are actually safe to use on car paintwork.................
  8. I don't know, but the first thing I would do is drive back to the VW dealer that fitted them, and ask them about it. Get a member of staff to accompany you on a drive, and see what they have to say about it.
  9. Yeah, the acceleration up to about 50 mph is very good, imo, and it pulls strongly enough up hills. Which is fortunate, because I live in a hilly area of the country. Feels a bit light above about 75 mph, mind, although I won't be doing that sort of speed very often anyway. Just reached (approx.) half way point on the fuel gauge from a full tank, and the trip reads 238 miles. 11 gallon tank. 238/5.5 = 43 mpg. Approx., like I say. That's about 9 mpg more than my Fiesta used to do. Minor niggle:- I sometimes catch the seat height adjustment handle with my work boot. I'll have to be careful with that. It's only likely to happen if I'm parked where I can't fully open the door.
  10. When you look at what else you could buy for £1295, that really does sound like an absolute rip-off. Is the fact that it has an auto. box keeping the price inflated?
  11. I actually prefer to see cars in their original configuration, too. I don't like to see an old classic VW Beetle or whatever that's been messed about with.
  12. ....and that link doesn't work.............. Oh well.
  13. Yeah, mine came with the colour pack fitted for no extra cost (ie colour coded wing mrrors and bumpers), but it's only a £60 option anyway. Doesn't matter much to me, though, because this is supposed to be a basic (almost uilitarian) form of transport. Some people actually prefer grey bumpers, because painted ones can flake over time (my Fiesta was starting to suffer from this). Must take some new pictures, lol, but I've already posted this one (this was taken about 40 hours after I got the car home from the dealer) http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2001/fo...hesnow40lg5.jpg
  14. Just went to my local Morrisons to get some rations, and there were three other Foxes in the car park (out of about 30 vehcles in total)! Two the same tornado red as mine, and black one, all 1.2 basic models (I assume so so from the lone 'Fox' badge on the rear, anyway). 2 x 07 reg. + 1 x 06 reg., and one of the red 'uns had the full set of mudflaps fitted, and it looked rather good imo. Common as muck, these cars...........
  15. Exactly! Who the Hell wants to own "a normal car"? My Fox towers above it's opposition (ie Aygo, Ka, 107 etc.)! She's good for driving through flooded bits of road, 'cos her skirts don't get wet, lol. Btw, I now wave at all other Fox owners when I'm out driving. I don't think any have yet returned said greeting, but I live in hope..........
  16. Are the microfibre cloths from Poundland good enough for drying your car? Or do I need to buy a £10 one from Halfords? Ta.
  17. I think that's largely down to the shape of the bonnet. The Fox does seem to be a bit of "parts bin special", lol. If you look at a last generation 3 door Polo in the same colour as your Fox, you can see quite a few similarities. Btw, I think the CD player is very good. I use that box under the seat to store a couple of wallets full of CDs. Some loud rock drowns out the tyre rumble, anyway! Still haven't received my roadside assistance card yet. Might give them a call to see what's happening about that. I assumed they'd sent it through the post pronto, but..........
  18. Flippin' heck! I'd just about given up on this forum. I haven't done many miles yet, but nothing has needed changing so far, and people do say that if a component is likely to fail, it'll do so in early on. I'm amazed at how quickly I've gotten used to using this car (10 years of Fiestas, don't forget.....). I'm impressed by the fuel economy it's delivering. It's certainly a Hell of a lot better than the Fiesta in that respect, anyway. People I work with keep asking where I got the Polo from, though. I have to explain that it's actually a Fox. "So, it's a Polo Fox?", is a common response. Which is ridiculous.
  19. Hmmm, doesn't sound as if it's built very well, lol. The doors do need a good slam, as does the tailgate! I hope I don't have to make too much use of the warranty. Running back and forth to the dealer soon becomes tedious. I notice you've fitted different wheels to your Fox, BigT. Does that have a positive effect on cabin road noise? Not that I'm changing anything, but just curious, you know........ Btw, approx. how many miles have you clocked up so far?
  20. Well, this doesn't appear to be working, lol. I guess the average Fox owner doesn't want to yack on about their vehicle.
  21. Re. Kumho tyres........... http://www.kumhotyres.co.uk/news/news070901.html Kumho's other Europe OE fitments currently include: Volkswagen Fox, Polo, Caddy; Mitsubishi Colt; Kia Picanto, Carens, Magentis, Sorento and Rio models; Hyundai Tucson, Coupe, Trajet, Matrix, Sante Fe, Sonata, Getz, Accent and Terracan models; Chevrolet Kalos, Captiva and Matiz models and Ssanyong Rodius, Kyron and Rexton models. Quite a few cars using them, including a couple of cars that I'd considered as alternatives to the Fox. It's gotta be the lack of soundproofing in the Fox itself, then.
  22. about anything to do with Fox ownership! I have a Tornado red Fox 1.2 ordinary. Just got it last week. Love to compare notes about anything. This is after all quite a new car (May '06, IIRC) to UK shores, and it might have teething troubles, possibly universal problems. Who knows whether or not a mass recall is just around the corner? So, post away..............
  23. Loads of Lupos around here. I've only started noticing them since I registered on this site. I haven't seen a scruffy one yet. Obviously well built little cars. Or the owners take particular care looking after them. They all appear to be standard, unmodified cars, though. As for the Fox.......... It's time to get on with it, and rack the miles up. Bought a sheepskin mitt today! The dog tried to get it just before (he failed). Always used a sponge before. See the difference coming to this site has made?! £7.99 for that, against 50p for a sponge. Spotted that Autoglym Tar remover you mentioned. I'll buy it if I need it, but that'll remove the Autoglym treatment already applied. Never ealised there were so many car cleaning products out there. Halfords have 3 for 2 offer on atm, btw.
  24. Yes, a new name! That would do it. Maybe. I seem to be the only one here who doesn't modify their cars. I can't imagine many new Fox buyers doing that atm. Would you rather have more snow, so you can try out all the features on your FIAT, then? Like I say, I HATE snow! Got no use for it whatsoever. BAH HUMBUG etc. etc. Strange......... I took the car along the A1 between Durham and Newcastle, and it seemed fine on there, yet on the way home I thought the tyres were loud. It can hold it's own on such roads, btw. Easily cruises between 70 and 75. Very comfortable, too.
  25. Tailgate "fixed". It needs a good shove to close it properly, and I've been assured that it will ease up over time. No joy on the tyres, though. Went for a test run with a member of staff, and while he agreed that it was a little on the loud side, he said they all have these tyres fitted and they fit them to Polos as well now. I aksed whther VW were likely to exchange the tyres for another make and was given a negative reply. Not much I can do, lol. I wish some other Fox owners would start posting on here, so I can compare notes. Is this site not well known, then?
