  1. This isn't a bad website for basic info on car upgrades over time etc: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/index.htm?md=356&
  2. Thats a nice Polo Coupe you have there. One of my mates has a green G reg Polo but with the boot (massive boot too!). Its built like a tank and dead easy to service - damn sight easier to service than my Lupo!
  3. Mine idles at about 750 - I get a very rare stalling (even when warm) when I slow quite sharpish for a junction. Not frequent, but not ideal at times! I always do the basics first: - Make sure air filter is clean and the tube is clean of gunk - Clean HT leads / distributor cap n use bit of WD40 on contacts - Check spark plugs ok etc - Check throttle body for gunk, use carb cleaner on it After that, could be fuel filter clogged up, lambda/MAF sensors, etc etc. You're not alone - try searching google on the clublupo / eastsidevw / vwaudi / seatcupra sites for 'engine cuts out' - plenty of discussion on this topic there.
  4. (Sorry if this is a very late and useless reply) The official term is 'emulsification' of the oil - as mentioned, its cos of some condensation in the engine. Its more common in winter and when the car isn't used much because of it not being warm as often, so not burning off the condensation - so it starts to mix in the oil and turns its white. Its a question of 'extent' as to whether its a concern. According to an old motorbike forum(!) I've looked at - things to check / do: - Change your oil more often (this should be done if you only use the car a little for runabouts anyway) - Use as 'thin' a grade oil as you can (within the recommendations of course!!!! I think thats the 'W' number?) - Keep engine oil level at a lower level - but only as long as its safe!!!! A little less oil means it'll warm up quicker and burn more condensation off when used - but don't start risking it at really low!!! Hope this helps
  5. Your idling problems could be a number of things - to be honest, once in a while mine (1.4E) can cut out as I come to a sharp-ish stop at a junction. Its only once in a while - mine idles at 750 revs or thereabouts. Normally no trouble - just once in a while. I'm trying to get through a short list of things that might help this. Its best to start with the basics that don't involve money/much effort, e.g.: - Check air filter (replace if really dirty, Halfords do them, but cheaper elsewhere) and clean the gunk from the pipe that runs over the top of the filter, and gunk near the air inlet valve. To get to the air filter you'll have to take off the engine cover (4 allen key screws - 5mm key needed). Then its 7 screws (I think) with a biggish Philips screwdriver to get the air filter cover off. Be careful all screws are out before pulling off the cover (can be a bit tight as it needs a good seal). - Check HT leads and clean / put WD40 on the connections - Check distributor cap and inside and clean / WD40 - Check / clean / replace spark plugs - though make sure you've got a well-fitting socket as these can be a pain to get out / put back in - Clean round throtte body (as you say) with carb cleaner, if its gunked up. Try all that. If not, might be a bigger job, e.g. - Fuel filter may be clogged a bit and need replacing (again, available at Halfords) - Various sensors (e.g. MAF / Lambda) may need checking Some more pointers here too (Arosa is same as Lupo, with same foibles!): http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1338413 Hope this helps (and isn't telling you the obvious!)
