  1. should of said really nitrous is not an option, what sort of parts would be needed though and how expensive are they likely to be to get fitted etc??

    150bhp gti

what's the easiest and most cost effective way (if there is one) of taking a gti ang getting it to 150 bhp ish?? thinking of getting one reasonably soon and need to know if I can squeeze a little more out of it, 150bhp would do me quite nicely I think. prob easier and more cost effective to buy a different car already with 150+ but I like the look of the gti Is it an option even worth thinking about??
  3. Don't know if anyone's seen it but there's a Complete `VAG-Com` system on Ebay if anyone's interested. No doubt very useful for tuning / fixing mistakes... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...2494729245&rd=1
  4. the graphs etc are here... http://forum.clublupo.co.uk/viewtopic.php?...der=asc&start=0 mainly torque increase from mod, but a very nice increase especially at 2000rpm mark
  5. Would have to agree with you there LINCOLNSHIRESLUPOGTI, after I bought my car I took it in to them for some work to try and stop a rattling noise in the engine compartment (I wasn't paying, Reg Vardy agreed to it as I wouldn't drive back to the nearest one in Doncaster). After about 3 trips there they finally changed a piece of rubber tubing I think they said that led to the cat?? either way it still didn't sound quite right afterwards, they charged £400+ for the work and claimed they couldn't hear the noise afterwards! To top it off they also loosened a few panels inside the car to create extra rattles while trying to track down the first one! Went there about 1 1/2 months ago for a headlight bulb which they fitted for free as they said I was a regular customer (prob felt guilty for what they've been doing to me!) BUT fitted it so the beam shines higher on that side so I dazzle other motorists! Not really worth the effort of driving there. Luckily the cars a lot happier now, but not from their efforts. What a Dealer!!
  6. 10,000 miles later would work out about right (10,000 miles = 16,000 km I think)
  7. ha ha, agree with you there mate but I was wondering if it was getting a bit tempramental after giving it a work out. Poor things only had quick journeys to work to deal with lately. Now I think about it I really need to give it a spin more often while I've got the time before I start the car ICE project and the complete gutting and rebuilding of my house (currently unliveable and needs serious remodernisation before I move in - FUN! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> )
  8. Obviously there'd be a pint or two in it for you. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  9. Nice idea but I don't know anyone with it. Anyone got it and live anywhere near Lincoln?
  10. hi, yep this just about confirms what I thought but I thought I'd better give the full description of what was happening before it happened and not give my conclusions in case it was just dismissed as that (wanted to hear your comments). I'm not bothered about ther revs, I knew from reading on here that there was a rev limiter before I got the car and it's never been past the 6500 red line area (agree with you Phlegyas - red looks bad so always change before hitting it!!) As for £35 for the privilage! Damn that must work out at about £4000 an hour for the time it'd probably take, someone at VW is taking the piss with the pricing structure! Still I'd better get it done I suppose, been to VW Lincoln a few times as well so maybe they'll take pitty on me and do it a bit cheaper (can always hope). I'll let you know what extortionate charge they hit me for! Oh and the Reg Vardy I bought from was not a VW, it was a Renault I think but the site was shared with a large used car place that my car came from (both in the reg vardy group).
  11. Took the car out for a bit of a drive yesterday and thought as I'd never really pushed it that hard I'd give it a good blast about. Drove it through 3rd and 4th gear to the 6000 rev line before changing up as I've never done that before (usually change at about 5000 rev max for slightly better fuel economy - my lupo drinks it by the tanker load or at least seems to!). The car's a Lupo Sport and the red area doesn't start until 6500 revs. Any way, after driving about 1/2 mile to work today the milage counter started flashing up with SERV or something before turning back to the milage with the word service left on near the milage figure. The cars only done 1300 miles since I got it from Reg Vardy who told me it had been fully serviced and the sticker in the cab say service due at 57000 miles (now on 48350). What's likely to have happened? Anyone else had this problem?
  12. Well I'm 6ft 4 and I've had people of just over 6ft sit behind me on short journeys without complaining (well not too much anyway!). Always drive with the seat all the way back. If they don't like it they could always walk! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  13. Hi, For some unknown reason when I stick the wipers on now they seem to catch each other slightly when both in the down position making a slight click noise as they touch. (Far end tip of trivers side wiper clips the start of the passenger side wiper). Never used to do this, has a rubber stopper come off or are the motors traveling too far / gone wrong etc?? Not sure what's going on with it but very anoying when raining listening to click, click, click etc... Tried drowning it out with the stereo but that's not really the best way of solving the problem! Any ideas anyone??
  14. If you can get GTIs for that price with air con I really want to know about it!
  15. hi, I picked up my Lupo Sport for £4695 by the time I'd finished negotiating, and got them to change one of the tyres that was getting a bit low on tread (so they all had at least 7mm on all of them). It had done 47000 miles but then it was a late 1999 car (V reg - September) which is about right for a car that old, bought it back in May. Came with some much nicer 15 inch wheels as well! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> I'll be selling so I can get a GTI towards the end of April (can aford GTI with 1 years no claim bonus) if you can wait that long (doubt it though), would be well under £5k by then. If not there should be other nice cars about and if you shop well the sport should not be out of your budget (although the GTI sadly will be style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> ) The best benefit of the sport is that although it has 100 bhp (the same as a 1.6 focus for instance) it's still only a 1.4 so you get cheaper road tax etc!!!
  16. hi, I'm looking at getting some decent sound quality in the Lupo, those crappy VW door speakers just DO NOT sound good. simple as that. I've got a Nakamichi MB100 for the head unit and a Genesis SM100 which I'll prob use for the front speakers at least for the time being. Doing the sub shortly. I'm thinking about getting some Dynaudios for the fronts and may have someone who can sell me a system 240 mk2 for a decent price. HOWEVER, this system uses 7" drivers rather than 6.5" which I believe the VW standard ones are. How easy is is going to be to fit these in the doors? Will I just need some kind of adapter or am I looking at ripping the doors apart? I take it the standard lower door card would not fit afterwards. Thinking of changing to a GTI when I've got my one years no claims so would rather not do anything too drastic. any help appreciated.
  17. If you can get me on that'd be good... LN6 7YH (Lincoln) - Jazz Blue Sport
  18. hi, feeling much happier now, the uniroyal rainsport 1s seem to get good reviews, below for instance... http://www.imoc.co.uk/tyres/TyreDetails.asp?ID=115 I've also managed to find them ultra cheap - just £37.79 each inc vat with free fitting!! (mental price! - see topgear.co.uk) someone in Lincoln just quoted me £60 each + fitting. They're based in Doncaster as well as other places (9 branches I think) so not far from me. Looks like I'll be changing all 4 after all.
  19. Oh dear!!! just read this and not so happy now, now wonder I've got no grip they're terrible by the sounds of it!... http://www.imoc.co.uk/tyres/tyredetails.asp?id=53 style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  20. hmmm, good point Crusoe, basically my tires are completely screwed! Anyone know if those power racer IIs are any good? would be cheaper to try and get 4 of those on the car than replace all of them. Or should I just do all 4 (rather not though, want a GTI in 10 months and the more I spend on this car the less to help towards GTI) 4 tyres and balancing etc can be costly.
  21. tigz - did you get the same Uniroyal as I've got on the front right hand side (Rainsport 1) or do you have something else? you think it's prob down to the mismatched tyres that I'm getting bad grip? or is my driving really that bad?
  22. hi, thanks for the quick replies everyone, just checked and they're 195/45R15 On the front at the moment I've got a Marshall Power Racer II on the left and a Uniroyal Rainsport 1 on the right hand side. I'm sure that isn't helping me much to be honest or maybe I just can't drive properly / sensibly? (take your pick!). It seemed a lot happier when it had both power racer IIs on the fronts but I can't remember if there was much wet weather when they were setup like that. Before you ask the garage I bought the car off did some major kurbing on my alloys when they delivered the car on the transporter (complete idiots these people). Got them to recondition the alloys which they did quite badly but at the same time they switched all the tyres about. Now have two marshall tyres on a diagonal to each other a uniroyal on the other front and I hate to think what on the back! Think I'll get them to change the valve on the power racer that seems to go leak slightly, put both of them on the back and change both the fronts for the time being, but I may just change them all and be done with it. Nothing's simple these days!
  23. Hi, I need to change both the front tyres on my Lupo sport (one slowly leaking (valve maybe?) the other has a gash in the side wall that doesn't look too clever). I'd want the same grip and tread depth on each of the front tyres so they're both getting changed. Finally to the question... style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> What tyres would you recommend I use?? Must have good grip as the two I've got now are just terrible in the wet (wheel spin all over the place even when I'm not trying to pull out that quick style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> ) Wet's maybe? Must be 15"/45 not sure about the width but prob about standard for 15"s (I'll try and check) - I'm just looking for makes / models to look out for. I'd rather not spend too much but at the same time I NEED better tyres this time round. Any help greatly appreciated by myself and no doubt my Lupo!
  24. right I've switched over the headlight fuses at the fuse box (in shelf under steering wheel area). However I think the fuses are just one for front of car + one for rear lights? either way the fuses I switched did no good - exactly the same as it was before the switch. There seems to be some sort of circuit box behind the headlights when you remove the back cover for the headlight section, think the problem must be in there. Anyone ever opened it up?
  25. forot to mention - no visable damage to headlight that I can see Wiring looked OK as well Replacement bulb was a known good one as well style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Thanks for help
