  1. True, I didn't think they'd all be that bad. I was also in the worst place of all for roads no doubt (clubbing area - las americas is it??). There was lots of construction going on around the area with the crappiest roads so that no doubt didn't help either. I did drive around the island a bit though (did the full circuit of that motorway thing that does almost the complete island I think?), and a few other places along the route + going to top of mountain etc as you do. They weren't too bad I suppose in most places (failing memory doesn't help either). might take you up on that offer if I'm over that way, might be a while before I'm back though (large car loan and house move to pay for style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> !!)
  2. Very nice car there, very impressed. As mentioned before every mod improves the car and done for a reason (not for the sake of it). I've been to tenerife 3 times and while I like the country, your roads are a bit crappy (loose stones everywhere etc). Must be really annoying.
  3. lol that's what happens when you read info while talking to parents, all kinds of misunderstandings arrise! yep, I wasn't overly impressed either with that idle figure and yes it does seem to use a bit more fuel than it should. do you know if your overfuelling problem produced similar results? how long did it take vw to fix? am I looking at a hefty bill or a manageable one? I'd appreciate experiences / details from anyone who's had similar problems.
  4. lol don't care if it's £5.99 more bothered about cr@p from VW when they say "hmmmm well it's difficult to get to... how about we charge you 3 hours of labour and an hour diagnostic charge" or something equally stupid Is this cheap and easy to replace then? The MOT place I took it to (local AA approved centre) seemed to think the lamba sensor had gone (see test results) and quoted about £90 for it Seem reasonable or are they trying to screw me more than usual? Just want to get rid of this one now and get the gti (hopefullty on sat)
  5. OK here's the results given... Fast Idle test engine speed 2611rpm co level 7.19% (max 0.30) hc level 259ppm (max 200) lamba 0.81 (min 0.97 max 1.03) Fast idle test 2 engine speed 2586rpm co level 7.17% hc level 281ppm lamba 0.80 Natural idle test 839rpm (min 790 max 940) co level 5.99 (max 0.50) Overall FAIL Does this still sound like a sensor problem?? Can't afford to keep wasting my money on vag.com diagnostic charges. The ABS sensor problem's going to set me back £140 already. I'm trying to sell the car and this is all dead money.
  6. Is that likely?? I'll get the results up when I get home but it was massively over. From memory I think the CO value could be a max of 0.3 and I was getting about 7.2 (both runs) the other reading was over as well. I only just had the car on vag.com yesterday (ABS warning light - n/s/f abs speed sensor gone). Would they have only looked at the brakes within vag.com or would they have seen other faults pop up? Would have expected them to tell me if they'd seen anything else wrong??
  7. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to engine related stuff but I need someone to confirm if there is only one cat for the Lupo Sport? Volkswagen Lincoln say they changed the cat for me when they did some work on the car just after I bought it (about 10 months ago) and it's only done about 3000 miles since. I took it for a MOT a couple of days ago and the emissions are over what it should be so they think the cat's gone. Just want to make sure the one that's failed is the one they changed.
  8. there should be no problem using decent quality speaker cable in the car. Remember to use the thickest you can afford / get (don't use the nasty thin stuff with about 6 strands!) I've never heard of electrical factors to be honest, tigz should know though.
  9. woops, got caught up on the phone at work and beaten to the post! never mind
  10. yes, 6.5 inch would be the size to go for and can be fitted reasonably easily, just buy some speaker size converters from halfords or the like. Alternatively if you want to do it properly... http://forum.clublupo.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=8062 would sound a lot better done this way as it would cut down on vibrations etc
  11. I've been following this thread since the beginning but been too lazy to type it all up  , ahh well here goes... name: Adrian Drakes age: 24 From: Lincoln Job: IT bloke for DHL, too varied to put a proper name to (but keeps me interested ) Drives: V plate Lupo Sport (but hopefully a GTI soon, can't find a raven blue one for love nor money (and would have paid well over the odds for the right one as well , however currently negotiating on a cheap 6 speed silver to tide me over) other info: I'm also a `long-term` suffering Spurs fan (looking much brighter now, just hope Jol stays long enough to see it through) ps why is it that well over half the people on this forum seem to work in IT?? Strange world.

    hi

haven't tried sainsburys myself, will have to remember them when looking for GTI quotes. Tesco only seem to like people who've been driving for ages with lots of NCB though. They were the most expensive by a long way, tried to quote me about £1150+ for a standard 1.4!!
  13. LincolnLupo

    hi

I'd already been driving for 1 year by the time I bought it (as a named driver) and I'm now 24 (couldn't be bothered to do test when I was younger). However I got the sport for £710 from norwich union, you may want to give them a call, they were nearly £300 cheaper than the other companies (AA etc). In fact the AA were second best price wise and quoted me £712 for the standard 1.4!
  14. LincolnLupo

    hi

don't need to tell me that!! when I bought mine it was the only sport I could find for sale in the UK and I had to have it shipped down from Aberdeen to my local reg vardy garage (doncaster).

    hi

My V plate sport will be for sale very soon (as soon as I can find a GTI worth buying). Would only be about £3500 as well but I live in Lincoln so a fair way from you. The difference between a standard 1.4 and a 1.4 16v sport is large. Very happy I got the sport not the 1.4 standard (time for a 1.6 GTI now though style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) The 1.4 sport has double the power of the 1.0 though (100bhp, 1.0 is 50bhp and 1.4 is 75bhp), so insurance for a new driver might be a little OTT
  16. LincolnLupo

    hi

I'd definately get the 1.4 if it's in as good a condition as the 1.0. I drove a 1.4 16v standard before buying the 1.4 16v sport and while not exceptionally fast it's got enough "go" to be fun to drive. The 1.0 in comparison wouldn't be as much fun and you'd end up wanting to change it fairly soon. With just £100 difference between the two, no contest. Next year the difference in price would prob be even smaller.
  17. I got VW Lincoln to ring up and see if there was any way of getting a new one done in blue and the dealer said they'd stopped all colours other than red, silver and black. I was a little suprised they said they'd stopped anthracite but that's what I was told. I suppose they must sell the most cars in those colours and as they're cutting back production before stopping all together, that's what they still make.
  18. there are no new ones in blue in the country (or even nearly new - believe me I know!) only colours still made are red, silver and black
  19. I've got a 16v sport but really wish I didn't anymore style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Missed the GTI I wanted and now I'm struggling to find another one (sorry, I'll try to stop moaning about it!)
  20. I think it'll be red but not 100% sure, what gti did you get?? (new? / used, colour? etc)
  21. it was nfbr mate, don't know if he's got any left. mine got mangled and lost in the post though! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  22. looks quite good, although if you haven't already ordered the seperate 5 disk cd changer it's a bit cheaper here... http://www.lowcostcaraudio.co.uk/shop.php?...rer&product=330 £134.99
  23. looks interesting! Didn't know they made things like that
  24. The JL 10W6 is meant to be a very good sub (very loud but also good from a SQ perspective), not heard one but a friend used to have one and loved it. I'd say a 10W6 was a little overkill though to be honest (rated at stupidly high power and prob needs a lot to get the best from it) I got myself a Dynaudio MW180 (only rated at about 200w RMS (4 ohm) but more than sufficient). The sound quality is beyond belief and with the lower power rating you know it'll be running at it's sweet spot (power wise) during normal usage. The 4 inch voice coil also makes for decent freq response. After owning a set of Dynaudio BM15 studio monitors I knew Dynaudio was the way to go for the car. It just so happens that the MW180 is the same size and very, very similar to the drivers in the BM15 so I knew what I'd be getting. These drivers are also used in the active BM15a (nearly £2000 a pair and received excellent reviews), so I know they really are as good as my ears tell me they are style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> answer detour over now  I suppose the real question is do you waqnt a really loud sub (that everyone else hears as well) or one that'll just blend in with the components and add a bit more low end?
  25. hi everyone, If anyone's still looking for a sport there's a stupidly cheap one in the for sale section (mine!) http://forum.clublupo.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=7608 I drove a standard 1.4 before buying a 1.4 sport and the sport was loads faster (has an extra 25bhp so to be expected style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) Compaired to a standard 1l there's no contest, I think it has almost double the horse power! Since it weighs the same as a 1l you should get at least a 50% increase in performance (you will not get this without stupid mods to a 1l) reduced to insane prices - it's about £1500 less than I paid less than 10 months ago!!!
