hi, Thanks for the reply, thats what i was worried about with a used gearbox. thats why i thought if its a low mileage gearbox it could be better but i am also looking for reconditioned gearbox. any idea what codes i can search for other than my own when looking on the web for a reconditioned one? cheers

Hi, just had my local garage confirm my gearbox is on its last legs today and is going to need replacing, so now i am on the lookout for a replacement gearbox. I just have a few questions if anyone can answer them? my gearbox code is FHX and engine code is AUB, are there any other codes that are compatible for the lupo e.g. a polo? if i do buy a used gearbox what sort of price range is reasonable and what is the maximum mileage you would say is safe on one? mine has done 94,000 miles. is there anyone on here selling one? my car is a 2002 lupo sport 1.4 16valve Thanks for reading Jamie

Hi guys, today my cambelt has gave up on my 1.4 lupo sport, the belt had only done 30,000 miles and its was just under 3 years old. the problem with the belt is that the teeth had worn away in certain parts of the belt until it gave up. called my breakdown service and when they came he said he couldnt toe the car because my car was too low so i had to get another toe car to pic me up lol. So now i really have no idea what to do, ive thought about buying another lupo 1.4 sport engine and fitting that, or trying to get the current engine repaired by replacng the damaged valves and new cambelt fitted etc, or my other thought was because ive always wanted a little bit more power in the lupo is this the perfect time to put another engine in. i was thinking of a lupo/polo 1.6 gti engine but not sure if this is just going to be too much work. so just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and what they did, and if anyone knows if the 1.6 engine is a simple engine change? hi, i would check your Cambelt for wear on the Teeth of the belt as i have had the exact same problem for months now and today my cambelt has just give up. i had tried loads of different things to try and get the problems sorted and its would come and go so it was hard to tell if had been sorted out. i really do think the problem i was experiencing was the cambelt tho. cheers

cool, what does that look like? did they fit ok? see im not sure if i want the arches to be thta WIDE lol.

so its not just me then its only because of the fuel prices going up like fahook that i am watchin my mileage and i was just wondering if it was right. its costing me like £30 to fill up full from empty now. on another note my car has just hit 80,000 miles is there anything i should be doing or watching out for now its geting on abit? ah right, well i am driving pretty economically really not ragging it or anything. just started keeping tabs on hows many miles i can go on a full tank so just wondered if this was right. cheers

hi, i have a 1.4 sport with full stainless steel exhaust and a sports cat fitted, when i fill the tank up full i get around 240 miles out of it. does that sound about right to you guys or is it burning fuel like no tommorow? Cheers

yer i have seen the body kits but does anyone know where i can actually get hold of the wide arches? is there a website, because i have had a look around and cant find one?

not bad is it, although i still think theres something missing. bloody want the wide arches tho don want any other kit bits lol might have to see if i can just get some made up.

yer i think the 1.8T is the best bet but now i duno if i can be arsed messin around goin places to get work done and spending loadsa cash when i could just buy a Polo 1.8T for around the same money i woulda spent geting mine done. mite just keep the lupo as it is and buy another car that actually has abit of ooomf. oh yer and that turbo kit was one from ebay which was from america, did seem a little bit to cheap.

well i found a 1.4 turbo kit for £800, but if ive looked around for the 1.8T engine and that goes for around £1,500 - £2000 then you gota get someone to fit it and uprate the brakes and suspension so yer its guna be costly aint it. but i do want reliability so 1.8T conversion would probably be best, not sure how you go about making it road legal tho like insurance companys and road tax etc? i have put a fair bit of time and effort into my lupo and i find it a fun car to drive but now im geting abit bored of the power but dont wana get rid of the car what kinda gains are you looking at if you turbo your 1.4 sport engine?

Hi people, im on the stage of tuning my 1.4 lupo sport engine now and im kinda in 2 minds what to do, i want some nice power gains from this little car but with minimum hassle. now i have been looking around and the 1.8T engine conversion is at the top of my list but now i have found a complete Turbo kit for my engine and not sure wether it would be worth it turbo charging a 1.4 engine? what are your thaughts on this? The light came on, and my fuel consumption has sored, i was over taking a car the other day and i could literally see the petrol gauge going down! i disconnected the front lambda sensor and the car run the same with no difference. all the signs are there to say that lambdas gone, dont think its the post cat on tho. rough idleing aswell. best price i have found is a NTK lambda sensor for £70, which i think is cheap compared to what some places are wanting. wasnt keen on going for a universall.

Hi, i need to get a new front lambda sensor for my lupo. mines a 2002 1.4 16 valve sport 100bhp. does anyone know what part number it will be? i think i will just buy a bosch one but not sure if ill be buying the right one. yer i keep thinking it could be the lambda sensor but dont know which one it could be because there is 2, a pre cat and a post cat. i dont want to buy a new one and it is the wrong one. the car hasnt been perfoming as well lately tho. im thinking of getting a sports cat aswel now. im going to have a look at the loop tomorrow tho and see if theres anything i can do. ive got a MOT at end of the month and dont want to fail lol. this is the first sort of problem that i have had with my lupo in the 2 years that i have had it apart from the dreaded pedal box issue that i had last year. cheers matee

lol i dint fink i had a carb! just me being a noob yer that light is on and off i jus ignore it now, i do have full stainless steel cat back exhaust fitted. do they sell that throttle body cleaner at halfords? yer my car has cut out before when idle in traffic, used to do it quite often when i had my K&N induction kit on it until i took it off. i had a service about 5 months ago. my mate seems to think it could be my catalytic converter on its way out.
