  1. Thanx for your replies guys. I like the M S Designs spoiler on your motor, One Litre Wonder, but Tigz do you recon that your spoiler will fit the Arosa (I can't see why it won't?) Now I have one more question. Will a MkI Arosa spoiler fit the Mk2? Really appreciate your help guys. Ta, Mark.
  2. I'm considering buying a roof spoiler for my Arosa and would be very grateful for any advice on which ones to go for and which ones not to go for. I would like to maintain my exisiting 3rd brake light preferably, but any piccies and sites where to purchase would also be fab. Also do Lupo roof spoilers fit without any probs? Ta in advance Mark. 8)
  3. Hi, and welcome Barry. Nice to see more Dutch people on the forum, love your country and the dutch people. I'm ex Royal Air Force and spent 6 great years in Germany based at Bruggen which is right on the dutch boarder by Roermond. We always seemed to spend most of our time in Holland and always had a great friendship with the dutch people. So once again a warm welcome to you and `by-the`-way your car looks great! 4. Seems like a lot of dosh to me. Have a look on Ebay I've seen people selling GTI wipers on there and I bet they're cheaper than the dealer too. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  5. Can confirm K&N do make a filter for the TDi as I have one fitted to mine.
  6. Hi Mike My 2001 Arosa TDi runs a K&N filter in the original airbox and a Sebring back box. I just checked with www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ and this also fits the Lupo TDi, it costs £194.23 (Part No.`SB-999043`-4). If he gets the K&N make sure he gets the right one, mine is cylindrical in shape and not flat. I have recently fitted Eibach sports springs and Kayaba gas shocks. I didn't want anything too severe as I use the car to commute to work and have to travel over several bumpy roads, I feel it's a nice compromise. Also fitted Recaro seats out of an Escort RS Turbo, had windows tinted and run 15" BSA alloys. There is so much for him to spend his money on!!! Mine goes to Allard Engineering soon for Chip, bigger intercooler and modification to the manifold. Hope this helps. Mark
  7. Yeah, much as already mentioned. I also bought Quantum oil from German,Swedish & French (GSF) for about £24.00 for a 5 Litre can, (dealer wanted about £10.00 a litre). It is of `5W-40` viscosity but more importantly it conforms to VW 505.01 specifications. This is supposed to be the only oil that you put into your PD engine, but then again dealers state that you should only ever use their screen wash too!!! Time to make your decision, hope this helps. BTW none of the more common oils that you see in Halfords, (e.g. Castrol) conform to the VW505.01 Specification, not even the synthetic ones.
  8. Ordered my new solenoid from Seat yesterday, cost me £11.53 in total. :x
  9. Without hesitation after seeing these replies, basically stating that my particular model should have central locking on the tailgate I whipped off the rear panel trim, and what did I see.......a piggin' central locking solenoid!!! It obviously wasn't working, so I set about finding out what the problem was. It was in the extended position, so I removed it from the tailgate (only took 2 minutes). The actual grey solenoid casing can be seperated, so I pulled it apart removing the internal rack and pinion and went back to the car and connected just the electric motor to the central locking power lead on the tailgate.... UREAKA the motor worked!! What seems to be happening is that once assembled the rack and pinion although greased, jamms itself in the extended position. After cleaning it up and then `re-appying` loads of silicone grease I put it back together and it works ok for now, but I feel that I will be visiting that stealership after all to get a replacement. Thanks again guys for your replies. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  10. Splendid, thanks guys. At least that gives me something to go on. If needed I can order the relevant parts from the Seat Stealership or hunt down from a breakers yard the solenoid, mount and possibly even the wiring harness. Ta again guys.
  11. Just a quick one... has anybody modified their central locking to incorporate the rear tailgate?? I am fed up with not having central locking on my tailgate so am going to do something about it. I'm going to mount a slave central locking solenoid into the tailgate and wire it up so that everything can be opened using the remote key. I just wondered if anyone has already done it and/or if any of the top of the range models have tailgate central locking as standard fitment? Cheers Mark
  12. My Arosa TDI also does about 320 miles to the tank, that's not at all bad. I quite often check my MPG figures and am pleased to tell you that your Loopy is doing about `58-62` MPG. I get these MPG figures and I must confess I don't hang around, so can only assume that if I took my commute to work and back a little more sadately I would get even better MPG figures. We diesel drivers don't know we're born; my Mondy ST220 costs me £62.00 to fill up, and only does half the MPG of my Arosa! Mark :?
  13. Can't speak for all model variants but my TDI has this cover too and I have already looked inside in the hope of putting some additional equipment in there, but alas there's no room for anything, not even a sausage!. As for the pollen filter, this is located under the bonnet at the far `right-hand` corner behind the plastic cover that is secured by 3 philips screws (between the rubber weather seal and the bulkhead, if you like). I know this as I changed mine last time I serviced my car (the pollen filter for what it was, was surpisingly expensive too!!). As for the true use of this perculiar shaped panel in the dashboard, I have no idea, but if you want to have a peek inside, you need to open it from the front and not the back or sides by using a couple of smallish flat screwdrivers placed about an inch from the side edges. This will let you lift it up; there are two spring clips holding it in place. I hope this is of some help to you.
  14. Hi everyone, just wandered if anyone had any info on doing a cambelt change on the 1.4 tdi. Not really had many dealings with diesels in the past and wondered if it was a job for the DIY merchant. i.e do you need any specialist tools, or need to know any specific torque settings, etc, etc? The motor is going to Allard's in the New Year for an upgrade and I want to do the cambelt as a matter of course. I do all my own maintenance but feel a little lost on these diesels especially with no technical information to refer to, (i.e. Haynes Manuals, etc). I would be incredibly grateful for any info on this matter. Cheers. 8)
  15. I had exactly the same problem with my Arosa. Both windows would motor down fine, but would do exactly the same as yours when I motored them back up again. All you need to do is go to your local Halfords store and get a Silicone, I emphasise Silicone based lubricant. I bought 3in1's Silicone Lubricant (£4.99), then used the little red straw to direct the lube into the sides of the window rubber guides and the jobs a good'un. The stuff I used is very good and doesn't leave any residue or mess on the window, but remember you only need to do the sides. I've not had any more probs with mine since doing this to them. Hope this is of help to you. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  16. Obliged for your replies guys. I put in a search for this on the forum but got nothing back, but have since put a search on Alta Vista and it brought up some interesting facts. Like you pointed out, it seems to be a 'long life' oil but apparently it also has to endure higher pressures within the PD engine which is why it's a higher spec oil. I was sceptical when I read it and thought along the same lines as yourself, and that it was just a manufacturers ploy to get you to use their own overpriced products. It would appear that Castrol Longlife II or Mobil SHC Formula LD `0W-30` are the ones to go for.
  17. Firstly, hello everyone! This is my first post on this fab forum, I think it's brill! I wonder if anyone out there can help me? I have recently bought a 2001 Arosa TDI and have looked through the owners manual and was shocked to see that it states that on NO account should you should use any engine oil other than VW505 01 Specification oil otherwise serious damage may occur to the engine. I have always used fully synthetic oil as a matter of course when I service my cars, but it clearly states that even fully synthetic diesel oil is no good for the PD engine. If there is anyone out there that can clarify this point for me, I would be much obliged. Ta. 8)
