I was under there last night fighting the clutch pedal, which is why I fancy making the hole really big by removing the dash. I'm 6'5", it's not fun working in such a small space.

The 280mm brakes are 22mm thick, the 256's are 20mm. On the Lucas 54 caliper, the pads are too thick for the gap that's left, so you either turn down the disc or machine the pad. Get it wrong and the pad drags and warps the discs, which is why mine vibrates under braking. They will work with Polo 6N2 GTi calipers as the GTi uses a 256x25 disc and the caliper is wider. The pads are the same. Going back to standard will give me 3 cars with the same brakes, 14" rims, and I've never felt like I need any extra. I don't even need to bleed anything if I just swap carriers.

I'd forgotten that this was here. The problem is that mine came with 280mm brakes and I've had enough with them. I want to go back to standard.

Ignore, I've just realised that I'd already asked once.... Doh!

I need a pair of caliper carriers for the Lucas 54 calipers to go over 256 x 20mm brakes. I've got a pair of 280mm carriers if someone wants to try them.

Anyone know how to get to the throttle pot on the TDi? Seems to me that the dash may have to come out, but if there's an easier way I'd like to know before commit.
