  1. Ha ha. I have the advantage of having a spare car. I will give your map a good testing too tho once the decat is in place ?
  2. It's a dummy cat in stainless. I was going to knock the guts out of the old one but it was well rusty and on its last legs. I haven't tried your map yet mate but I have had someone retune the Blacksmoke one for me ? Its a massive improvement on the Blacksmoke map and will be even better after the decat is installed.
  3. A late Xmas pressie (to myself) arrived recently. I managed to remove the old downpipe and will be fitting a shiny new decat pipe tomorrow
  4. Will be fitting this beasty tomorrow if the weather plays ball
  5. Done it!!! After a litre of penetrating fluid and a lot of swearing I have managed to remove the downpipe and cat on the silver car ready for the new shiny decat !

    A bitsa

This was originally for sale on the Facebook Lupo/Arosa group. I think he wanted £1200 initially lol. In the first add he said the engine had 180K but is now advertised as 80K??
  7. Oops. My bad. I wrongly presumed that most vags of this age shared a similar setup
  8. Adjusting the linkages should be the first thing to try Sorts out most gear shift problems.
  9. What he says..... My generic reader came up with nothing. I brought a lead and loaded up the free VCDS and got this code with almost identical symptoms to you
  10. I had these exact symptoms on my tdi and it turned out to be the cam position sensor. But I guess if you haven't got a code then prob not, but I thought it might be worth mentioning. Very scarry when it happens on the motorway ??
  11. I come here bearing great news ??? Swapped the counter weight and linkage catches over today and it has completely fixed the crunchy 2-3rd gear shift. I have driven about 10 miles and completely hammered the gearbox and I just can't get it to crunch at all. To say I'm stoked is an understatement. This gearbox issue has been a pita ever since I brought the car and has really darkened the Tdi experience. I'm in love with it again ??? I always had a deep down feeling that this second gearbox couldn't have the same problem as the one I chucked in the skip 9 months ago (which was probably also fine) Buying the silver Tdi, and having something to compare it against confirmed my suspicions. Happy days......now I have two mint Tdi to play with ???
  12. It's worth a try eh. I think I will first swap the counter weight and linkage clips from the good to the bad car and see if that helps. The sloppiness is exactly the same on the new gearbox as the old one. At least then I will know for sure without spending out out on parts
  13. I also have this in the shed. It's came off the current gearbox (which i fitted 6 months ago) i had to swap the parts from the orignial gearbox onto the new one so that the linkages would fit.
  14. So I have been doing a bit of investigating today and have compared the two linkages in both cars. hopefully the videos will load... The first thing I noticed is that they are both different. The first video shows the crunchy black car. The second the silver. The silver car has the linkages attach with a ball and socket kind of arrangement where as the black car has a pin and clip. The videos show the cars in 3rd gear with me wiggling the gearstick from left to right. You can clearly see the play and flex in the linkage on the black car. Which linkage arrangement is correct A7E612DA-D918-4490-9689-A01E07ACFFDE.MOV 36C6EB80-64FD-4EE7-B144-4352524C6464.MOV EDIT: Not sure if the links work....will load em onto YouTube and post in a moment
  15. Oops posted in the wrong thread
  16. Despite what they say Rich, you could be a genius ??
  17. That's what I was thinking. Its only basic angles and if you have a way of measuring against a known level i.e. across the strut tops, it should be doable eh I wonder if my iPhone app could be used?
  18. Do you think that sloppy/worn linkages could cause this problem? Reason for asking is that my 2nd Tdi has a good gearbox and the difference between the sloppiness of the gearstick is really noticeable. The gearstick on the crunchy car has tons of sideways play when in gear, where as the good car doesn't have any and feels really tight.
  19. Do any of you guys know of any ghetto ways of setting up the camber correctly? I have decided to fit the eisbach springs to the silver car but this obviously involves buggering about with the camber.
  20. Maybe the previous owner was incontinent. Try the sniff test on the front seat ?
  21. So this I should how she looks today.... Im unsure about fitting the lowering springs.......I quite like the softer stock suspension and it's sooooo much easier jacking it up. Plus I won't have to bugger about trying to set the camber up again.
  22. So I fitted the drivers side wing this morning. It's a bit scratched but hopefully a bit of T cut will sort that out. Top tip of the day......... If you do not have a garden and can't afford and allotment, you can always grow veggies behind the wing on an Arosa. The is a small gap in the wheel arch liner which crud flicks throught and after 15 years you get this....
  23. An impact is the next thing on my shopping list!
