Hi buddy they don't do a Haynes Manual for a VW Lupo, I've searched everywhere for one, I'm in the same dilemma as Tim

Correct, try You Tube, but more practically its fiddly rather than difficult, just be systematic and patient

    Not even 1.8t conversion😳

Wrong place to start, you should start with a GTI if you want that much extra power, you need the brakes, suspension & lightness the GTI brings

Bargain. I've seen imports in much worse condition, no history and higher milage go for more.

Don't accept anything under full asking price.

Are you selling the original wheels separately? (I'm interested...)

Being cornwall (no road salt), i suspect no rust.

Cornwall is close to the sea at all times so salt in the air can be an issue, you are right about road salt though, mild winters

Since I was last posting on this subject, I've acquired and fitted yet another Momo - this time my holy grail, mid-70s Prototipo 320. So I'm not sure which one you're now referring to?:

    1) Original Gti retrimmed and with flat bottom

    2) Plastic Lupo wheel (used during Gti wheel retrim)

    3) Momo 320mm Jet

    Regards.

  5. In Llanelli by James Hawkins, he was recommended to me by another tdi enthusiast. A bit too far for you in the current circumstances.  There should be a few in the central belt, I'd have thought. Yes the Sport has 100 bhp and discs all round, but a tdi with a 100bhp plus is a much better car to drive. The seats on the Sport have side airbags which need to be disconnected before you remove them because they might go off, mine are blue and go well with a silver car. Other mods are a black roof, you could have it wrapped but I chose paint,  if you can get cheap 15 alloys why not, but I'm ok with standard. I've also turned the roof lining black and fitted or adapted the door cards using matt black spray paint in a well ventilated space, acquired a black bonnet as well but yet to fit it.

These were the springs I fitted, work well with standard shocks, lower but not a hard ride

If that's the extent of your knowledge, then your previous statement is no surprise. The 3L has an automated MANUAL gearbox. If it had a normal auto, it wouldn't achieve 3L/100km.

You do need to use the handbrake for hill starts - no difference from a manual car. The clutch is either open or closed, it doesn't do slip! That's why changes are a little jerky at slow speed but at higher speed, changes are hardly noticeable.

The 3L only shares about 20% (FSi and GTi excepted) of it's parts with other Lupos. Even the body shell is different (thinner but stronger steel), which it shares with the GTi and the FSi. The ECU doesn't control everything; there's also a GCU!

I've never had any difficulty getting parts from VW, it just takes a bit longer because most parts are not stocked in the UK.

When you express an opinion, it's a good idea to know what you're talking about! This is what you should have read BEFORE commenting:

If it was as good as you think it is/was, why didnt it catch on?

"I don't understand the premium on these cars, ok they are very fuel efficient, but so is the SDI or TDI.  "

Not in the same class. Chalk and cheese.

Quite so , crappy auto, torque sapped by the slush box I'd pick a TDI every time and an SDI most of the time. A gimmick for posuers

  8. WD40 on the boot lock does work if you can get it open, introduce some into the lock too by spaying the key, I'm fitting a black bonnet to mine so will have a silver/grey bonnet if that helps. Fit wind up windows, get seats from an Arosa Sport, fit lowering springs, get the car re-mapped but get advice locally on who does it well as not all know what they are doing. Surprised at the rust though as mines the same age as yours and has none.

I totally agree MK2, since you told you wanted to build mk2 synchro analogue for Lupo, if you don't put rims with large offset or spacers, and simply widen chassis by fitting wider subframes, there should be no problems with wheel bearings.

Since You are talking about roll-cage, snorkel and wheel guards, Your idea actually don't fit "VW Lupo which looks similar to the VW Golf Country Mk2 and fulfills a similar purpose", mk2 synchro was actually weak 4x4 car (viscous coupling) which did not needed roll-cage and snorkel. I don't know for what purposes You want a 4x4 Lupo, but I suggest to fit Lupo body on AWD frame, for example Suzuki Samurai frame is much more appropriate for off-road and roll-cage than few VW subframes. Samurais have 1.3 engine as well, would need to attach Lupo body to frame. There was an idea about 4x4 Lupo with Fiat Panda drive train, which is slightly harder than fitting body on frame.

The syncro system never worked well on the Golf Rallye either
