  1. pkrboo - im going to try and repair the airbox, as the cars been in a front impact and has punched a fist sized hole in the airbox, hence my reasoning for changing the filter setup. cardaft - Brilliant thanks for the link! its nice to hear from the one of the previous owners! I had a butchers through your thread, didn't realise you fitted the cruise control, thank you its been brilliant, and yes still works as it should! funnily the previous owner I bought it off was under the impression it was a showroom/test car as he'd never seen another Arosa with cruise control fitted haha I was trying to figure out why there was a number plate retention letter in the mountain of paperwork I had, thank you for clearing that up! Also it appears you were the last owner to truly care for the car, the cam belt hadn't been changed since 65000 (now on 142000) I was trying to figure out why the gear gaiter and knob were different to ones id seen in the other Arosas id looked at! still looks as good since the day you fitted it! cheers. thank you fella, if you want any info on the car just let me know! I'm hoping to keep this thread relatively well updated!
  2. is it worth raiding a scrappy? i can only compare this to my arosa TDI, but i cant imagine the fuel filter setup would of changed drastically
  3. sounds like the injectors up the duff! i have no idea on costs of a new one but there are places that refurb them. when was the fuel filter last changed? have you checked the wiring for faults to that injector? cheers Anthony
  4. not really, atm, thinking interior and speakers but dont know. any advice is always welcome on how to improve these little beasts! the keys never worked as far as i can tell, tried three diffrent brands of batteries and cleaned it out to no luck. i dont want to spend the £80 ish that seat want to recode and check the central locking system. so paid £8 for a remote central locking kit, and will wire that up instead. cheers Anthony
  5. cheers matt, not technically stoke-on-trent some place called car-transplants.co.uk
  6. Hello all, Recently purchased this as my daily commuter. Its a 2002 1.4TDI Arosa with 142000 on the clock and a stack of paperwork. She's had 7 owners, some had taken care of her but the previous owner was a student who clearly couldnt drive. The damage to Rosa was - Dented and scratched passenger wing, passenger door and rear quarter panel.Cracked front bumper, grills and number plateAll the brackets on both headlights were snapped or brokenThe bonnet was bent and creased (with added rust)The bonnet release cable was snapped.Reverse light didnt workHad one red and one black rear light. Some odd coke stains all over the interiorCracked fiberglass slam panel.passengers window regulator and motor replaced with a bit of wood!!! seriously who does this!!window switches not working.central locking tempermentaldrivers manual wing mirror adjuster missing. Most would of turned away but for £790 i could see the potential, the engine was perfect for my needs. So i rang a few scrappies and the nearest with the right colour and the right parts was in stoke-on-trent! 5 hours from me! so i loaded up the missus's golf and went on the journey for two headlights, a bonnet, window regulator and motor bumper and grills, drivers wing mirror and black rear drivers light. All those parts came to £270 all in which i didnt think was bad! Also managed to score the window switches for free and a cd-less headunit for £12. Saw this awesome sculpture whilst we were there too, made of hay bails and must stand at least 20 metres tall. Couldn't get close to it though! so i fitted the bits, fixed the reverse light (snapped wires near reverse switch), cleaned the interior and did a service(fuel filter, oil, oil filter, cabin filter) I also had the cambelt, noisy tensioner and water pump replaced for £350. So she now stands as the photos below show. i put Kurust on the bare metal, and brush painted over the scratches just to hide the dent till i get it fixed properly one day ive also added a few parts to neaten her up. crystal wing indicators with chrome bulbs aero wipers and re-painted the wiper arms as they were more corrosion than paint. silvervision chrome indicator bulbs to get rid of the egg yolk look. headunit and cupholder led interior light polo rear wiper arm and blade Future plans are - EGR delete Diffrent air filter routing and box Catch can Stubby aerial Fit a universal remote central locking kit Remap Some sort of diffrent alloy wheels possibly loweringcheers for looking! Anthony
  7. hey gouldy, can you elaborate a bit, ive put some pics of how is sits atm.
  8. hello all, what does the 1.4tdi do with boost pressure off throttle? im not very clued up on them as im sure you have noticed. would fitting a recirculating BOV be advised? also, my friend with a 1.9tdi leon recently had a 'mufflerectomy', basically removing the backbox from the exhaust completley and fitting a bit of plain exhaust pipe with a tip. hes noticed the turbo spools quicker but has stated it could be just a placebo effect. anyone done this, or have any experience with this? cheers Anthony
  9. i was intrending to get a small filter and vent to atmosphere, the eco nut in me prefers to filter the oil vapours out instead of pumping straight out, also the OCD clean guy in me highly agrees. that sounds a bit pikey (no offence intended)
  10. dont want to hijack youre build but whats youre thoughts on this as a catch can. 1 litre capacity, internally baffled... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBP-Baffled-1-Litre-Square-Bulk-Head-Mount-Oil-Catch-Tank-OBPCT005-/380852429668?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item58ac92e364 cheers Anthony
  11. brilliant! thankyou for the pics, the RARB looks ace, i know you havnt tested it yet but im sure it will considerably help in the corners. i know im a pest but im trying to get my head round why packing the electrical connection with dielectric grease is benefiicial, is it preventavive in order to protect the connection? cheers Anthony
  12. from reading the above, i do roughly 300-400 miles a week (dual carriage way/ a roads) would a catch can not be advised? im no fussed about emptying it, but more concerned about simply venting to atmosphere, cheers Anthony
  13. do share pics! interested in the RARB, elephant mod and dielectric grease. does the one-touch work with the wind deflectors?
  14. So like a bull in a china shop I rushed into buying a underdash cup holder. The ad stated it would fit a lupo/arosa. So i took off the arosa card holder and well it doesnt fit. Have i goofed and purchase the wrong type.. i will up date with pics as soon as i can. Cars a 2002 1.4tdi arosa btw cheers Anthony
  15. thank you i shall pull it apart see if theres anything obvious. cheers
  16. Thankyou for the replies. I bought a cheap and cheerful remote central locking kit so will be attempting that when it arrives. mattarosa - i shall rip the knobs out and report back if i find anything. also need to investigate why my knobs not glowing Dblock - im tempted by an enclosed filter with a cold air feed through the front lower grill, but ... im not sure. the shaking on turnoff is driving me craxy, im a little worried about it jumping the belt, can the anti-shudder valve be needing a simple clean, might be sticking?? or is there a known fault? enlighten me on EGR deletes please cheers Anthony
  17. Dblock.. so the remap is a workwhile venture? i take it you want a rolling road map rather than a flash-adjusted base map? have you done it? also on a side note, are topics and sections locked out unless you are a paid member? cheers Anthony
  18. possibly door lock actuator, I think they are built into the door locks on these, checked for voltage at the plug on the actuator?
  19. Hello all, I haven't been here long but you seem like a knowledgeable bunch already! so.. can finally drive rosa 1.4tdi (girlfriends already nicknamed him), after, for my peace of mind, having the Cam belt, water pump, squeally tensioner and aux belt changed, £372 all in, personally didn't think it was a bad price at all. so on her maiden voyage, after figuring out the dipped/main beams, I twiddled knobs and gave it the beans... dear lord they are nippy! its like driving a go kart! but like most 12 year old cars she has a few issues... -central locking intermittently works (never worked off key fob), noticed the little flashy light on drivers door only works sometimes? I'm thinking of just getting an aftermarket central locking kit and patching that in.. anyone done this before? - the heater control knob that controls the direction i.e. screen, feet etc, only turns to feet and screen, is this a common problem? - when the engines turned off, the vehicle physically shakes, not violently but a definitive shake, I put this down to being a 3 pot but its got me thinking, engine mounts? - the air filter box on the car has a fist sized hole in it, are aftermarket filters i.e enclosed cone filters beneficial or can I source an original easily? - brakes are shocking! pedal to the floor shocking, im going to bleed them see if that improves it but are there are known faults with the braking system? sorry for the barrage of questions but im really hoping you guys can shed some light form me. cheers Anthony
  20. flap sanding wheel on a drill. sounds pikey and is, but ive done it to many a wheel now with no problems.
  21. ah sorry, i know what a remap is, just didnt believe these engines would respond well, if at all?
  22. The central locking only works through the drivers door lock, not the key fob and only occasionnally through the door lock buttons on the drivers door panel. The windows, do not work from the switches, you can hear a relay click/clonk behind the fusebox when you use the drivers window switch, the passengers window switch( both the one on the drivers side and on the passengers side) do not make the relay click/clonk, the drivers window will open and close if you hold the key in the unlock/locked position in the drivers door key barrel. hope this clears things up, im a bit stumped to be honest. thankyou Anthony
  23. i havnt checked the switches, i assume if one fails they all stop working? its not remote as such, just works through the door lock only. also the central locking doesnt work through the switches on the drivers door either... hmmm
  24. hello skezza, thankyou for the reply! the central locking works in the door lock, and the drivers window will open if you hold the key in the unlocked position in the door.
