  1. Hey, We have tried replacing the clutch release bearing (and clutch whilst at it) on a mk2 polo but are having some problems. The first time we put the gearbox back onto the engine we found that as soon as we pressed the clutch the bearing would not retract back, this turned out to be due to the old bearing grinding down the guide sleeve and allowing the bearing to drop off and onto the shaft. Again the gearbox was taken off, and the guide sleeve was replaced. Put back together again and found the clutch worked. We ran the engine for a while but very quickly noticed now the clutch wouldn't work again. What I believe has happened is that the release bearing has been allowed to spin on the shaft and now doesn't line up with the clutch arms. Is it literally just the flimsy retaining springs that prevent this from happening? Thanks for your help Ian
