  1. Piss easy job.

Turn car on and move steering wheel left and right really gently, slowly and only small amounts. If you can feel play then you need new track rod ends for definite. The play should feel like you are turning the steering wheel and nothing happens then you feel like a bite.

Track rod ends cost £15 each.

Take about 30 mins to replace one. If you are planning on doing it yourself then you might have some issues get the track rod end out the hub, your probably best to get heat on it from then with the bolt still on the track rod end but almost wound completely off, hit it with a hammer and it will come loose.

If you don't move the bolt behind the track rod end then you shouldn't really need your tracking done.

You are being ripped off and you will get ripped off at kwik fit too.

  2. Felt I should update this.

Not much been happening in the way of modifications. I've been replacing parts like ball joints, track rod ends and wheel bearings recently and all the little issues I've been having have ironed out :). Car feels sweet now!

Had it's MOT yesterday, passed with 1 advisory which was because the undertray has scraping on it because of being low.

Car is gonna be getting resprayed in the next couple of weeks and then maybe looking to sell :(. If I still have it by players festival it will be going to players :).
  3. Hi,

    New topic, new problem.

Cable is still attatched to handle in car, I believe it's still attatched to black box thing in the wing (both ends).

The problem I believe is with the mechanism. I think the cable may have came off at the mechanism.

How do I get the bonnet open from there?

Any ideas? Car failed MOT today because of windscreen washer fluid bottle, it was empty and I can't get the bonnet open to fix it and top it up.

  4. No, going to CumVAG in the Lakes.

I think DaveElliot and Pete were on about going.

Nah, can't go to Cumbriavag because I'm working and couldn't get the ****ing day off.

The only show i'll be making this year is Players show as my contract is finished on the 14th September.

Making a weekend out of it. Should be looking to sell the Lupo after players :).

Peter is going to SCS, he's been prepping these past couple days :)

    edit: going to players

  5. I'm currently considering one but not driven one yet. I like the looks of the facelift but prefer the understatedness of the earlier cars. Have a read of the reviews for the BBR tuned one. A remap see's 290bhp. A revised fuel pump, replacement downpipe and a map will see 320.

The only issues with the early ones seem to be potentially with the vvti actuator. From what i've read there should have been a recall and fixed under warranty.

Very little in terms of issues and will tune a lot easier than the vxr. Still seriously like the vxr, such a hard choice.

  6. The facelift will be comfortably outside your budget but you'll get a very nice low mileage example well within your budget. Bang for buck, there's not a lot that will compete with them. One downside to the earlier model is the annual road tax is around £460, the later ones managed to get in to the £260. It puts a lot of people off but in the grand scheme of what people spend in fuel over the year, to me another £200 isn't a huge price to pay.

Yeah road tax isn't too much of an issue.

I could just buy a facelift bonnet anyway.

Is gonna be quite a hard choice. It is a shame they only come in 5 door..

The Mazda 3 does have a quicker to 60 from standstill but that'll be because of the lsd.. I wonder what it would be like against the astra on a rolling start?

Looking at reviews on the Internet, hardly anyone can fault the car and there are very little faults with them..

  7. Haha.

The scoop was added in the facelift, I assume they changed from a front mount to top mount intercooler

Looks much more badass with bonnet scope. Face lift seems to cost a hell of a lot more. Definitely gonna test drive one. Anyone driven one before?

  8. If you are looking at those two then you may as well consider the mk5 Golf GTI/Mazda 3 MPS/A3 in either 2.0 turbo or 3.2 V6

Really like the golf but if I was to get one it would HAVE to be the edition 30 and that's kinda out my price, don't really want to pay that for it. Mazda 3, really like that car. Might have to test drive one and get an insurance quote. Are you aware why some have a bonnet scope and some don't?

  9. The disAstra will do more than the ST on long motorway journeys as its missing a cylinder and 500cc. My ST does 21 - 32 depending on amount of lead in foot. Average is 28.

Don't think you'd be disappointed with either. 5 pot sounds a lot nicer than the Vauxhaul engine though.

Definitely give you that it sounds better, the note from the st and RS is just jizz material. Wouldn't call it disastra but..

Anyone think of any other recommendations?

  10. What? Your abit slow aren't you? If someone seats they can get 40mpg on the motorway that is 100% different to normal use. He said long term average 25mpg so why compare apples and oranges. Now unless the guy getting 25mpg lives on the motorway and literally drives it no where else and starts the car with a ore heated engine etc it makes no sense to compare them. Really showing your age lol

Makes no sense mate and I'm far from slow.

  11. The Focus is considerably better than the Astra, don't be fooled by the straight line speed. Plus the interior of the Astra is horrible, although I do prefer its exterior looks.

Mpg wise, I've only driven the Astra on track, but my friend has an ST and gets about 25mpg as a long term average. Worth it for the better car though

I quite like the astra inside, especially with the blue smd conversion.

Once the astra is on coilovers with a decent rarb, the handling is apparently improved dramatically.

With the astra, some say they can see 40mpg on the motorway which is a significant difference to 25.

Overall the focus may well be the better car but I really prefer the astra to the focus.

  12. Gti would have to be pushing 150 or more hp and weigh 900 or less to make up for the vtec kicking in, cause it goes from using 40/60% of power to 100% puts you back in your seat and a smile on your face!

What do you mean about the b16 & b18?...

Dblock sounds like a honda lover too...

B16 and b18 are types of Honda engines. Not sure where a b16 is from but a b18 is from a teg.

  13. Having a brother with a del sol yeah they do go well for a 1.6 but not impossible to beat them is it.

All im saying is why dont b16 owners go race something like a 1.8t audi tt or the golf not laugh at a 1.4 with 100 horses.

And the b18 is faster everyone says, can highly mod the b18c6 or the b18c, and the b18c4 goes well with boost.

But there was a forum ages go saying the b16 vtec is more aggressive as its air flow is better and thats why people put b16 heads on a b18.

I see, I'm curious to see how it fairs against a b16 and a b18.
