    ******* the GTi

I'm a sceptic too....that 1.6 16v is in a quite high state of tune as it is for a small engine (BMW's Mini is only 103, as is Fords in the Fiesta, Pugs is only 120) and gaining 16bhp from a chip?? I'd like to see rolling road figures, or some proof, before I went ahead with it.
  2. Sorry, the guy at EVO got it wrong style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> its the 14th NOT the 11th! 14th is the Sunday. As for whats going to be there, its an all day meet, whether I stay there all day is another matter! Plan is - meet up, take in some great roads, scare yourself shitless in other people's cars, pub stop for drinks (`non-alcoholic`, obv. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />) more driving....go home. Spook said he would see if he could make it too....go here to see the kinda cars that are goin... http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/wwwthre....=1&vc=1 From the top of my head....Golf's, Elise, Punto Sporting, S2 106 Rallye, Mini Cooper, CTR, Another Elise.... Seeing as I'm the only person on the forum with a Lupo, some people are anxious to see it, Andy_Punto loves GTi's..... TBH, I'm a bit nervous about goin, cause some of them know each other....I don't really know anyone.... ???
  3. No, it will be fine. You can have a 100w Amp and 400w speakers, or a 400w Amp and 100w speakers, it won't be a problem unless you overpower/underpower them You'll know if your overpowering them because it'll start to distort the sound...

Talking of parties... I don't think I can make the Edition38 show, at least not in the Lupo. Going out for a friends leaving party on the night before, and she'll kill me if I don't go. I could go and not drink, but thats boring style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Because driving "the morning after" is not a good idea, we might just all pile in my mates car I suppose...
  5. Yeah, look in the Yellow Pages. Depending on how bad they are, can cost from £30-£60 per wheel. Place in Walsall does it. My mate is (possibly) buying some S3 wheels which are in bad shape, so he's going to get those restored.

Er.....yeah, good point style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> glad to see one of us is awake!!! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Fran is LupoRacer, and has a LupoSport16v. Foofi has got the Raven Blue GTi on order... Sorted!

I was there - well, so was Elliott - we were parked next to each other over the back (mine was Silver, Elliotts black) Pictures here: http://lupogti.moddedcars.com/gti_i2002.htm Didn't notice your Lupo, Funk, I walked all around the carpark, spotted 9 GTI's in total, and only one `non-GTi`, which was Fran's (Foofi's) Lupo Sport. Which day did you go on???
  8. Um....dunno style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> not far from Birmingham....by Shropshire. But unless I'm doing something wrong, the AA website doesn't find anything on the RoutePlanner with either Shropshire or Bridgenorth...
  9. Me, and my sisters Arosa are *probably* going. More than likely, just to pop in.
  10. Lowering - VW do springs (Eibach's) for your Loop, cost about £100+fitting. Keeps your warranty too. Will be better than fitting GTI springs. As for induction, re: your IM, GTi one won't fit style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> not sure about custom ones?
  11. Just to let you all know style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> (especially Spook!) EVO people are having a meeting at Bridgenorth on 14th of July. I'm going, I think Spook said he was gonna try and make it too... Be nice if some of you lot could pop in and say hello too. According to one of the members, those roads are the testing grounds for Dudley's Ralliart peeps too....Ralliart are the Mistubishi EVO people sellers/tuners btw style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Edited By MattyB on June 24 2002 at 21:08

    OZ Polaris 16"

oh yeah, 16's wont be a problem. Stick with 195/45/16 tyres though, 205's will cause you problems.

Alvaro - you'll need to the `angle-grinder` out to fit 17's .... but it can be done - Colin(GZA) put 17"s on his Arosa 16v... Grey - remember that your speedo `over-reads` anyway, so upto a 5% increase in tire ratio will mean your speedo gets more accurate! The only reason you couldn't use any tires is size, but 205/40/16's are quite common, I think, so it shouldn't be a problem....I'm after 205/35/17's which are bloody expensive! As for wheel weights, there is not alot of difference, weight wise, between most of the wheels. The only ones that will really make a difference are the OZ Superleggra's or the BBS RC's as they are `super-lightweight` wheels. As Axel will tell you, unsprung weight (ie, its on the wrong side of the suspension) can have a big effect are your cars handling. I'm not sure that there would be much increase going from 15" to 16" though - certainly not enough to notice anyway. The Americans are VERY picky about wheel weights, and all the wheel weights are published on US wheel sites - its hard to find that info over here though, you'd have to contact the manufacturer.

According to our Ripspeed guy, Man3, 17's do fit on the GTi without any problems.. http://www.moddedcars.com/`cgi-bin`....1;t=120 16's only though on the `non-gti`'s. Would stick to a 205/35/17 tyre, athough, you might be able to get away with a 205/40/17.....ALOT cheaper...but quite a bit bigger in Radius. The 35 profile tyres are only slightler bigger in circumferance than the standard 45/15's on the GTi. As mentioned before, go here to calculate tyre increases in diameters and how it will affect your speedo.... http://www.fernblatt.com/longhurst/tyre_bible.html
  15. The problem is that Chris and Sam (jeeze, sounds like a couple! style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />) both want to come, they are down south (as far as Kent for Sam...) And so do you, who's in Leeds (I'm right, it is leeds, isn't it?) So the problem lies in the fact that You, and Sam, are about 600+ miles aways from each other, so you either both have a 300mile trek each for a ~2 hour meet..... Not sure where everyone else is at. Alvaro wants to come, who's in Bath, which is south of me. Again, if we have it there, you will have a trek `and-a`-half Spook! Its a tough one...
  16. BTW, you can follow the EVO thread here (warning, is a big thread!) http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/wwwthre....0&part=
  17. The 1.8T *will* fit in the Loop, its been done! Rudy, interesting point about the throttle, is that why is a bit soft, and not instantly responsive? If you sit there with no throttle, then quickly "tap" the gas, there is a delay before it actually kicks in the revs...
  18. Bugger, can't email them, and I aint phoning them about it. SHIT! On Awesome GTi's site, they quote that a Polo Mk4 -> 1.8Turbo conversion is... £10,000 + VAT :0 :0 :0 :0 :0 :0 :0 :0 :0 OMG! I should image the lupo would be a similar price!
  19. Gah, I've been looking into major poower gains again style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> After a little discussion on the EVO Forum regarding `over-powering` cars, someone suggested that using a 1.8Turbo engine would be more viable than turbo'ing my existing lump. (Hey chris, wanna sell me your TT engine?? style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) However, does anyone know the weight of the 1.8T block compared to the 1.6 block? Not somethiing that would be easy to find out I know.....but just interested. I wonder how hard it would be to fit? I'm going to email Dubsport, I think....

    chip or turbo?

C17 makes a very good point about Resale - doing major converstions like turbo's and transplants not only cost you shedloads, but also lose you a hell of a lot of money (you'll get about 10% of your investment) and make it more difficult to sell, people are very weary of cars that have been "messed" with. Modified cars are more difficult to sell than standard ones because Modifications themselves are subjective, i.e. the car has been improved to YOUR tastes.

    chip or turbo?

TBH, it will be cheaper, and more effective I think for you to get an engine transplant than Turbo your car. Chipping on NA engines isn't really going to get you any great gains either, I think you said about 10bhp? Is it not possible for you to get a LupoGTi? Saving for those instead of modding would be a better option...

    My project

You should be able to get some good suspension for £350 (Bilstein Sprintline kit) but it will cost about £150 to fit it... Axel has a the Bilstein Sprintline Dampers and Eibach Springs...
  24. excellent style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I hope that I can summon up the energy to do the same style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  25. Well, I've had a great chance to play with my new headunit and its absolutely superb... It can go very, very loud in there now, and suprisingly good quality considering that they are the OEM speakers. Display is superb and does lots of little tricks. MP3/WMA support is just the best, don't know how I managed to go without it now...! DMask Plus is always a good "oohhhh" when you make it flip over and the funky Kenwood Anaimation comes on... There is so much to it, I can't begin to tell you everything. Well worth the £350 cost anyway. Buy, buy, buy!
