  1. So this week I decided to take my back wheels off as I know I'm in need of some new tyres I was definitely right - they were pretty bold! So now I'm driving around like this until the weekend...
  2. So a little update: I decided to start on the engine bay this weekend - it was unbelievably dirty! Finished taking everything apart/out before cleaning And this is the progress so far (I had to call it a day as my fingers were about to drop off!) Got a long way to go as its all the tough dirt and grime left but ill get stuck in again this weekend
  3. So far 130 have accepted on Facebook plus word of mouth - definitely happening
  4. Indeedy! Next one is Sunday 3rd March at 1:00pm Address is: The Spray Shop Unit 23 Leeside, Merrylees Industrial Estate Desford LE9 9FS (Not sure if this is actually the monthly meet but this is where they are sometimes at)
  5. Got the last part needed for the rebuild And a nice present for when Alva's back together again... Just waiting to get the head back which should be in the next few weeks, plus going to start getting things painted soon too
  6. So Henry's now fixed - it was just a problem with the earth!
  7. So the new starter motor didn't work... Looks like Henry's off to the auto electrician
  8. I've been meaning to update this for a while. Should be getting a new cam belt on Wednesday which will complete all the new bits required (minus paint, oil, coolant etc). Finally got round to cleaning some bits up. I forgot to get a before picture but this was after rinsing from the first wash And this is after a bit of scrubbing with the wire brush It's getting there, just need a smaller brush so I can get into all the little gaps I'm still really undecided as to paint. The boyfriend thinks that the block should be white with the rocker cover in turquoise but I'm thinking the opposite... I should of really took some better photos so that I could fiddle around with photoshop :\
  9. Love this car, and I'm not usually a fan of red So much hard work has gone into this and it really does show!
  10. So we managed to sort out the starter motor by rocking it in gear to free it up. This worked for a day or so but last night it died again and won't budge, so I'm off to pick up a new one today Hopefully the new starter motor will sort out the issues and ill be able to get to work! A nicer update, decided to give Henry a clean this weekend And the boyfriend decided to give his new car a wash too
  11. So since putting my new head unit and sub in I've had some issue with the battery dying. First it was due to the amp not turning off when the keys were out of the ignition. Once that was corrected Henry had been fine for about two weeks however, on Thursday he wouldn't start again and was just clicking. I assumed something was draining the battery due to the new audio but it appears that it's actually the starter motor, as my battery worked on another tdi. It's hammer time! Hopefully that'll do the trick
  12. I've tried my battery on my boyfriends dads arosa tdi and it started fine :\ So I assume its just my starter motor.
  13. Got a multimeter and yes I know how to work it Going to test everything tomorrow. Found out I can get another replacement battery for free which is nice
  14. I did manage to sort it out eventually after the woman pissed about for ages. She's given me half of the money so far and I'll be getting the rest at the end of the month. I don't think I'm going to get it sorted yet though. It'll probably get done when my sport goes in for a respray
  15. Yeah I try to go every other week whenever possible.
  16. Yeah, this weekend I'm just got to test every connection and see if anything is being strange. If we can't figure it out then Henry shall be making another trip to the auto electrician
  17. I have taken the head unit out now. The amp and sub is still connected but even without the head unit in today I tried the battery from my sport and it wouldn't do anything :\
  18. The previous owner had a sub wall in and did a bit of custom wiring but when we fitted the new head unit we chopped the wires back to before he messed with it and tidied it all up. We checked the wiring behind it last night but still can't see what would be wrong. The second battery has been killed by my car as after hours being on charge it was still just clicking when trying to start it We've checked all the fuses and nothing has blown. Really have no idea what the hell is wrong :\
  19. The cars had no issue with the battery and alternator prior to me changing the head unit. And the electrical fire was due to the previous owner not fixing the fuse box in the correct place.
  20. Yes the remote is wired to the power on the back of the stereo as the remote wire didn't quite kick out enough power to bring the amp to life, the amp turns on and off as it should so this isn't the problem, Just to fix some of Amber's mistakes, The battery died after fitting the stereo, prior to fitting the amp and sub so that's not the issue, The battery wasn't just a flat battery it killed a cell in the battery meaning it couldn't be re-charged so I assume it must be some kind of short not a drain, Same again this morning another completely flat - uncharitable battery And the alternator is already an upgraded high capacity alternator due to the sub wall previously fitted to the car, could the oversized alternator be overcharging the battery and killing it?
  21. The amps separate to the sub if that's what you mean. It's not just one of the sub boxs you buy from halfords lol!
  22. It's a fi sub, not sure of the exact model number though. Will do
