Greetings , As you can see I've been a member for a while but sold my arosa sport a long time ago . Back with a lupo tdi sport as a runaround now though . Few questions , the car has done 100'000 , can it be remapped to give a little more power and with this mileage , is it safe to do so ? Also , I only have 1 key and no remote locking . Should it have remote locking and if so , how much is that going to cost me ? Thanks in advance

Yeh but you are probably young enough to get away with white wheels!

Dropped it at my mates tonight , should know more tomorrow. First time i've driven the car for a week or so as i've done my achilles , that'll teach me . should have know something was amiss when it cruched going into reverse coming off the drive. No signs of it before this though.

Maybe they just wanted a quick answer and thought they had come to the right place to get one . Maybe not though

ENGINE CONVERSION?
argylegreen replied to argylegreen's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
silly cheap but none the less it was £150 , but that was to change a corsa c engine like for like . apart from swapping the auto box over. (he does it from home, does have a self build house with a garage to die for though!) i'd expect to spend a fair bit over that as its a transplant and it would be new ground for him. but if i could get an engine and box and everything else i need for a sensible price then i may be tempted in the future. seems to be a bit of hassle though from what people say on here. i was hoping as its the same bay it would be a fairly straight forward swap. guess not! thats why i asked!!!!! -
ENGINE CONVERSION?
argylegreen replied to argylegreen's topic in Car Care, Maintenance and Mechanical
i was hoping it wouldnt be too draining on the wallet if its a straight drop in for the lupo/polo motors. as long as i had everything that is. just had a secondhand motor put into the missus corsa c by the mechanic in the village where i live and was roughly only £150 for the labour and that included swapping the auto box over. made a conscious decision to have a runabout seeing as i drive mostly through country lanes. the a4 sport was just getting ruined , so i really wouldnt want a more expensive lupo gti just to see it get trashed on the roads i use. but , if it was £400 ish to sort out the smoking on this , i'd go a bit more if it was a straight forward swap. thats why i thought i'd ask and find out! -
Ok , had another thread reference my smoky arosa , general opinion is that its probably valve stem seals... put the arosa in for the mot monday a month early. Sailed straight through with only 3 advisories! Now , im thinking about an engine conversion , i know this has probably been done to death but , im guessing the lupo gti is the easiest conversion. Is that the same motor as the polo gti? what else is needed?

Gamma , standard din size?
argylegreen replied to argylegreen's topic in Interior and In-Car Entertainment
standard connections too? -
Thinking about putting a gamma headunit and cd player into a mk1 arosa. Is the gamma a standard din size and is it just standard connections? or is this a non starter. I know they sit directly above one another in the golfs/passats etc and in the arosa mk1 they'll be seperated by the heater controls. Advice needed............

done 95k now. is that expensive if its valve stem seals? i remember , i had the valve stem seals on my old xr3 and it was pretty cheap. (long time ago though!) and i seem to remember it was a weak point with the cvh engines. something tells me it wont be quite so cheap for the arosa. -
Hi all , originally posted about this in the Arosa section. Recently bought an arosa 1.4 sport for a runabout. only problem is it smokes! i originally thought it was mostly blueish smoke when i revved it at the upper end of the rev range. 4k upwards. first thing i did when i got it was change the oil and filter. still smoked. after driving it for a while , its more of a black colour. and it will build up and throw it out , then nothing for a bit , then another big cloud when throttling on again. not all the time but enough. it is using oil. IF ANYTHING , ITS GOT WORSE SINCE I TRIED A WYNNES NO SMOKE TREATMENT. just wanted peoples opinions on this and figured id get more joy in this forum than the arosa section. the car drives fine and i can live with the smoke would just like to hear opinions on it.

Quick update. after originally saying that the smoke is a bluish colour , it is a little . But only from what i can see from revving it myself and seeing what comes out the exhaust. Finally got a mate free to drive it while i followed in his car. It does intermittently smoke but it is more black than blue , and seems to build up and throw it out in one go , then nothing for a bit. Added a WYNNES stop smoke treatment today so will see if that helps.

Mine burns quite a bit . About half a litre every couple hundred miles ! Doesn't really concern me much unduly , as long as it lasts a couple months .

Quick update. engine does smoke on and off quite badly and uses a fair bit of oil. The smoking isnt all the time , just i guess builds up then blows it out. The engine drives fine , pulls ok, goes well. apart from the smoke and the using oil its a great little car. So................. Is there an additive i could put in the engine for a quick stop gap fix until i can A. get a new motor put in or head looked at? or B. or possibly thinking of an engine swap for say a 1.6 16 valve. will these go in? Advice greatfully recieved.

yeh it is blue ish. the owner i got it from says its been serviced regularly in the 3 years she's had it. but no proof. i'll see how it goes.

Hi all , recently bought a mk1 arosa sport 1.4 16valve mainly as a runaround. bodywork isnt too bad , drives fine. however , it does seem to smoke a bit. not a massive amount but a little at start up and then a bit when its revved hard. the engine seems quiet enough , but just thought i'd ask what the lifespan of these engines are , mines done 95k with service history up to 65k. ive just done a oil and filter change so will watch it and see if it uses any.
