  1. Hi All, in need of some assistance, started getting a noise coming front my front left wheel. Hard to describe, it seems to happen once per turn and at low speeds sounds like the brakes are catching like a low squeak noise but as speed increases it gets higher pitched and sounds like a bird chirping. I had pads and discs changed, still the same noise, took it back to the garage they said it needed caliper retaining clips and some bushes £100 incl labour, left the garage noise still there. Took it back again, this time they said wheel bearing, £40 incl labour after I argued that id unnecessarily paid for retaining clips and bushes. Took it away, no noise, happy days. A few miles down the road and the noise was back, albeit not quite as loud as before. So before I take it back for a 4th time I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, I'm wondering if its the brake hose, noise always seems to get worse the more I drive, could a dodgy hose be causing the caliper to stick as it doesn't let the fluid leave once I take my foot off the brake? Would this get worse the more I drive and then correct itself if left to sit for a while? The last time I took my car to the garage it was there 2 days and when I first got in no noise at all, I'm thinking being sat for 2 days may have allowed all the fluid to leave the brake which I why it was silent. If the caliper is sticking would it sound like it was only catching once per turn as I said or would it be more of a constant noise? Getting no pull at all, just a really annoying noise. Any help would be much appreciated, dont want to keep chucking money in for random parts as its already set me back £350 in total and still the same noise. Cheers guys
  2. By the way when i say 1.4 im talking about the 16 valve not the 75 bhp 8 valve.
  3. For a decent one in good condition with the milage im after (40kish) probably looking at between 2000-2500. I could spend 1500 on converting and repairing mine and have it exactly how i want it.
  4. The issue with the oil spitting out the rocker cover breather would be sorted with an engine swap and all over problems could be solved by stripping the parts from the donor lupo. Ideally im looking to buy one that wrote off due to body damage with mechanical and interior parts still ok to use. With the build i can gradually create the lupo i want at a cheap price, it would take me about 6 months to save to buy a new one which still wouldnt be done how i wanted it.
  5. Just the fact that its mine and it was my first car and im madly in love with it. So say i find one with a decent engine for 200-300 im looking at a total cost of about 500-600 for doing the swap, which is cheaper than buying a decent 1.4.
  6. Dblock i think its just cause of the amount of a ballache it would be and the labour costs of getting the work done. luckily i have a mechanic mate thats quoted 250 to fit the engine, ecu driveshafts and gearbox.
  7. Hi, i know everyones going to say dont bother and just buy a 1.4 but, as it stands my lupo is nearing its death bed, the last month a number of problems have popped up, throttle body needs replacing, spitting oil out the rocker cover breather, pedal box on the way out, passenger door handle mechanism broken, so its really not going to be worth any money at all, so im thinking of instead of saving up a couple grand for a 1.4 i may just buy a wrote off one from a scrapyard and take out anything from that that is in better condition than mine, that being said, how much would you expect to pay for a written off 1.4? Any help or ideas as to how to go about this would be much appreciated. Cheers
  8. Cheers for the link to the guide chris, know if theres one for cleaning the throttle body, ive had a quick look but cant find anything
  9. Ye i think thats the case loads of little problems adding up. Hopefully ill get it fixed soon
  10. im also having a problem with this lagging everytime i change gear, aswell as hunting in idle, how did you get on?
  11. also anyone got a guide for cleaning the throttle body and egr valve not a clue what im doing when it comes to things like this so a guide on where to find and how and what to use to clean them would be great
  12. Not tried it yet but going to give it a go over the weekend, from what ive read im not sure this will help but its worth a try. i suspect its a mixture of air leaks, misfiring cylinders and a worn out map sensor from what ive read but this whole hunting problem seems a bit hazey when it comes to fixes, also waiting for a part to sort a problem with the pre cat lambda which may be contributing to the problem but the guy whos supposed to be getting the part and apparently "serviced" the car a month and a half a go isnt answering the phone so i may order one myself.
  13. Hi, im having trouble with my lupo, its hunting in idle with the revs going up and down between 700 - 1500, this has been the case for about a month or 2 now but today another problem has occured. its not revving propperly, everytime i change gear the revs climb stupidly slow with my foot to the floor until about 3-3.5k and then suddenly it kicks in and i speed off (if thats possible in a 1.0) and when pulling off ive had to redline it to stop it from stalling, i stalled 7 times on my 3 mile journey back from work i have read a few posts with similar problems and various attempts and fails at fixing them but there all old, anybody have any light on what will be the definitive cause of this and how to fix it. Also its blowing somewhere near the manifold which a friend of mine thinks may be a split flexipipe but this has only happened the last couple of days and the hunting in idle has been happening alot longer, could the 2 issues be connected? Please help with this, ive heard some people spend around £500 trying to solve this problem and having no luck and if thats going to be the case id be better off selling it but i dont want to see linda go.
  14. Not gonna go for the respray, id be better off selling mine and buying a new one. Im not to keen on stickerbombing full panels myself, think little bits like the grill look cool but when its a big space it looks tacky. Just gonna have to hope that polishing the rest of the cars brings it closer to the colour of the new panel. If not,oh well, life goes on. Cheers for the responses guys
  15. Gonna give it some love on the weekend and see if i can bring the colour back, if that fails anyone got a rough estimate of how much a full respray should cost? Probbly change the colour if im gonna do that cause im not so keen on the soft blue anymore.
