engine swap is it easy on an arosa

Recommended Posts

hi

I've had my arosa for a year but took it for the mot and it is running rough on idle so can't get through the emissions.

I've changed everything i can, distributor cap and rotor arm, plus and leads, coil pack, lambda sensor and a new exhaust from cat back.

the garage had a look and it is down on compression on one cylinder.

now they said it would be £300+ to have a look and then either sort the valves or head gasket which ever it is.

but i thought wouldn't it be as easy and cheap for me to swap the engine for a different one?

it is a 1999 1.0 8v aer engine code.

looking on websites they aren't very readily available, can i use a 1.4 8v?

from reading posts any 16v will have to have all the ecu and such like and i just want to do it as easy as i can after fixing all the brakes for the mot as well.

i don't want to just scrap it as it is such a good car in all other respects. love the neon yellow colour and its only done 69k.

any thoughts would be very helpful, thanks
